  • This study makes some suggestions to cluster works from the search result of library databases. Specifically, the author suggests modifying the current practices and rules of KORMARC 24X field based on intent of RDA, which is the new cataloging standard. After identifying some problems in entering bibliographic data into 24X field, the author proposes solutions to such problems. The solutions include improvements in (1) Goanje description (관제기술), (2) use of uniform title, and (3) processing of marks, etc. The study demonstrates that users can conduct a fronted keyword searching effectively and identify the relevant bibliographic records easily from the clustered search results.

  • This study tried to explore the relation between research networks(coauthor network, author co-citation network, author bibliographic coupling network) and research performance of Records and Archives Management study in Korea. For the analysis, three basic types of network centrality and three indicators of research performance are used. The summary of this study is as follows: Firstly, there are relations between three centralities and three indicators of research performance in the coauthor network. Secondly, there are relations between betweenness centrality and research performance in the author co-citation/author bibliographic coupling networks. Thirdly, there are relations between three centralities in the each research network. Fourthly, there are not high relations between all centralities of the three research networks.

  • BIBFRAME, which is attracting attention as an alternative to the machine-readable catalog format (MARC) in the library world, presents a new bibliographic data model in the open web environment while maintaining compatibility with existing data. To convert KORMARC(Korean data model of MARC) records into BIBFRAME, we extract 25 key fields by analyzing the latest 5,000 bibliographic data from Nowon-gu Library in Seoul. The extracted core fields are classified into three types according to the compatibility of MARC 21, and define conversion rules for each type. In addition, implement an open source-based converter to perform KORMARC to BIBFRAME conversion. As a basic study on KORMARC to BIBFRAME conversion, this study is meaningful in that it analyzes the latest KORMARC information actually used, defines conversion rules, and attempts BIBFRAME conversion.

  • KORMARC format for holdings data is a standard for expressing and exchanging holdings information-who they have, what copies are owned, where they are held, etc. As the need of resource sharing grows, such holdings information that informs the user to the availability and the location of a bibliographic item is becoming increasingly important. However the KORMARC format for holdings data has been used much less than KORMARC for bibliographic and authority data, and has attracted little attention from Korean libraries. Under these circumstances, this study intends (1) to analyze various standards for holdings information including MARC21 format for Holdings data (update No.26) and its applications, (2) to investigate the types of holdings data and description regulations used in Korean libraries and bibliographic utilities, and (3) to suggest the revision of existing KORMARC format for holdings data.

  • The books and circulation-related data in the Library Automation System(LAS) of C-academic library were collected and analyzed, and also the method which may be applied to the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) based on the results was suggested in this paper. Collected data were 269,387 bibliographic data of books, 12,281 patron data, and 39,269 circulation records. User identity, circulation frequencies, total number of circulated books, and publication year as relation factor from the analyzed data of circulation records were extracted. They were also analyzed, and verified by correlation coefficient.

  • Bibliographical Description for Revolutionary Historical Archives is created to describe records at the item level. It defines descriptive elements, punctuations, formats and methods. Descriptive elements are composed of 20 elements, each of which is either mandatory or optional. Mandatory elements are: repositories codes, documents codes, dates, creators, title, classification codes, and subject vocabularies. Abstracts were previously included in card cataloging and are removed in the computerized system. New elements, such as "uncontrolled vocabularies," "name of places," "personal names," "organizational structures" and "meetings," are added to allow keyword search. Considering that subject vocabulary searches are the most important in computerized systems, however, Guidelines for the Subject Indexing for Revolutionary Historical Archives as well as Subject Headings, as a result from the Guidelines, are created. The most extraordinary features in Chinese archival description are said to be the Guidelines for the Classification Indexing for Revolutionary Historical Archives and Materials as well as the Classification Scheme, both of which are created to allow subject search of records content. It is because Chinese practice of records management distinguishes the classification for arrangement from that for retrieval. Chinese archival description is, therefore, composed of bibliographic description rules, subject headings, and the classification scheme for retrieval.

  • This study aims to analyze research topics within the domain of archival studies by examining bibliographic information from academic papers in archival science, library and information science, and history. After collecting 1,173 academic papers, network analysis was performed based on author keyword data, topic modeling was conducted from abstract data, and the analysis results were organized over time. The network analysis results based on author keywords confirmed that the research topic network actively changed according to variations in major laws and policies. Moreover, topic modeling from the abstract showed that the subjects of the entire academic paper were divided into "Records Management," "Archiving," and "National Records Policy." Notably, from 2002 to 2009, "Records Management" and "National Records Policy" were relatively dominant, but it has achieved balanced quantitative growth since 2009, peaking in 2019.

  • The final report of the Functional Requirement of Subject Authority Data(FRSAD), the 3rd report of the FRBR family model, is announced by IFLA in June, 2010. This model represents the international trends of subject authority control and suggests a direction to the future subject authority record suitable for the FRBR system. Therefore aims of this study are to analysis the FRSAD model in context of the FRBR family and apply the model to the subject headings and bibliographic records of Korean National Library. For these aims, we analyse the model focused on the entities, attributes, and relationships between entities. From this analysis, we have found the openness of the FRSAD, which does not force a certain entity types and has focus on the conceptual aspects of the entity not only the form of the headings. Moreover, we suggest examples by applying the FRSAD frame and facets of the FAST to the Headings of the NLSH and related KORMARC fields. The scope of this study is the additional entities of the FRBR groups, so personal names, corporate names, family names and titles are not included. As a result, it is necessary to determine the criteria for the types of thema and to apply the types consistently in bibliographic records. A follow up research will be needed to suggest more detailed examples.

  • This study aims to suggest some idea for construction of headings in authority records to improve conventional method for authority control. The reference structure between established form and other forms was replaced by the link structure based on access points and adopting standard authority numbers was considered. Additional elements such as work information to distinguish homonym and notational system of the headings to promote sharing of authority records were also addressed. Authority records management system was constructed to test structure of headings suggested in this study, too. Through this research, we confirmed that management, identification, and sharing of authority records were considerably improved compared with the conventional authority control system.
