A Study on the Bibliographic Control of Printed Music (악보자료의 서지제어에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate bibliographic control of printed music that is especially far-off the bibliographic control activities. In this study, therefore, the production and distribution channels of printed music and their publication situation are investigated. Then the development of bibliographic control of printed music is examined. And also, domestic, foreign, and international bibliographic control activities of printed music are analyzed. Finally, the special issues to be considered in our bibliographic control of printed music are presented.

Construction of BIBFRAME-Based Linking Structure for Interrelating Bibliographic Records for Alternative Format Materials (대체자료 서지레코드 연결을 위한 BIBFRAME 기반 연계 구조 구축)

  • Bibliographic records for alternative format materials using a flat bibliographic structure based on unit record have limitations in that they cannot be linked with other related resources in record level, which makes it difficult to secure sufficient access to alternative format materials for people with disabilities. In order to address this problem, this research constructed a linking structure which adopted FRBR-based BIBFRAME structure to establish a bibliographic structure that can interrelate the bibliographic records with flat structure and the multi-level BIBFRAME structure. This research proposed a linking bibliographic structure that enables interlinking between bibliographic records for related alternative format materials by composing upper-level linking property categories and interconnecting them to classes and properties of BIBFRAME.

An empirical investigation on the information service systems of the theses of Korean medicine (한의학 학위논문 정보서비스 실태에 대한 조사연구)

  • Objectives : On the internet, the bibliographic information service systems of the theses for the degree of Korean medicine(KMT) have been builded by the National assembly library, the National library of Korea and the eleven central libraries of eleven colleges of Korean medicine in Korea(KMU). Because there was a lot of information of Korean medicinal research & development(R&D) in those KMT, the MKT are most valuable in the Korean medicinal R&D. This study was carried out to understand and analyze the information service systems of the theses of Korean medicine provided by those libraries. Methods : We collected the bibliographic information of KMT on the internet in the National assembly library, the National Library of Korea, KMU, and some references of KMT, and then made a comparison between the bibliographic information of KMT and those KMU about the simpleness of searching and the accuracy of the contents. Results : Many of the Korean medicinal information service systems of KMU are poor on the simpleness of searching and the accuracy of the contents. On the accuracy of the contents, the bibliographic information service systems of KMT mistakes about 20% because of misusing of a Chinese character, a rule of the initial sound of a syllable of the Korean alphabet, and an erroro of the term day on KMT.

A Study of Ontology-based Cataloguing System Using OWL (OWL을 이용한 온톨로지 기반의 목록시스템 설계 연구)

  • Although MARC can define the detail cataloguing data, it has complex structures and frameworks to represent bibliographic information. On account of these idiosyncratic features of MARC, XML DTD or RDF/S that supports simple hierarchy of conceptual vocabularies cannot capture MARC formalism effectively. This study implements bibliographic ontology by means of abstracting conceptual relationships between bibliographic vocabularies of MARC. The bibliographic ontology is formalized with OWL that can represent the logical relations between conceptual elements and specify cardinality and property value restrictions. The bibliographic ontology in this study will provide metadata for cataloguing data and resolve compatibility problems between cataloguing systems. And it can also contribute the development of next generation bibliographic information system using semantic Web services.

  • The similar bibliographic retrieval system follows whether it selects a thing of the extracted index term and or not the difference in which the similar document retrieval system There be many in the search result is generated. In this research, the method minimally making the error of the selection of the extracted candidate index term is provided In this research, the word information in which it is adjacent by using candidate index terms extracted from the similar literature and the keyword topic information were used. And by using the related author information and the reranking method of the search result, the similar bibliographic system in which an accuracy is high was developed. In this paper, we conducted experiments for similar bibliographic retrieval system on a collection of Korean journal articles of science and technology arena. The performance of similar bibliographic retrieval system was proved through an experiment and user evaluation.

A Faceted Data Model for Bibliographic Integration Between MARC and FRBR

  • Although MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC) and Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) are currently the most broadly used bibliographic structures for generating bibliographic data in the library community, each has its own weaknesses in describing information resources in diverse media. If the MARC format could be implemented in a structure that reflects the multi-layered characteristics of FRBR, its use could address current problems and limitations in resource description. The purpose of this research is to propose an alternative approach that can integrate the heterogeneous bibliographic structures of MARC and FRBR through the applications of facet and facet analysis. The proposed faceted data model is expected to function as a conceptual structure that can mediate between MARC data elements and FRBR attributes in order to utilize these structures in a more reliable and comprehensive way.

A Study on the Utility of FRBR Model in Korean Bibliographic Record (한국어 서지레코드에 있어 FRBR 모형의 유용성에 관한 연구)

  • IFLA's FRBR model is a significant contribution to cataloging on both theoretical and practical grounds. This paper provides a brief overview of FRBR, a methodology for applying the FRBR work concept to a random sample of 1,000 bibliographic records taken from Korean National Bibliographic, and estimates of the number of works in Korean National Bibliographic and their associated characteristics, based on analysis of the sample. FRBR model can be applied to 16.9% of all works in Korean National Bibliographic. Results suggest that the majority of benefits associated with applying FRBR to Korean National Bibliographic could be obtained by concentrated on a relatively small number of complex works.

Improving the Quality of Bibliographic Data in Public Libraries: Focusing on Public Libraries in Busan Metropolitan City (공공도서관 서지데이터의 품질 제고 방안)

  • In 2020, the Busan metropolitan library took the lead in establishing an integrated library system (ILS) that integrates bibliographic data from 49 public libraries and 103 small public libraries. However, each library still builds bibliographic data individually and repeatedly, and the bibliographic data built by each library is only physically stored in an integrated DB. Therefore the improvement in work efficiency or data quality has not been achieved. This study aimed to analyze the construction processes and quality of bibliographic data in Busan public libraries and to suggest a new implementation strategy for an integrated environment. To this end, (1) the construction process of bibliographic data was investigated, (2) the quality of the constructed bibliographic data was objectively analyzed, and (3) four implementation strategies were suggested based on critical problems. The implementation strategy aims not only to improve the quality of bibliographic data, but also to increase work efficiency and build an infrastructure for data sharing.

  • New concept of bibliographic data and its scheme are needed to accommodate a change resulting from the emergence of new forms of electronic publishing, and the advent of networked access to information resources. FRBR model was developed for defining functions performed by the bibliographic data with respect to various media, various applications, and various user needs. Several institutions including OCLC and RLG or vendors have tried to implement the FRBR on OPAC systems. The purpose of this study is to propose the strategies for developing bibliographic interface based the FRBR model. This study is to review the representative FRBRized systems and compare the systems regarding on search interface and display interface.

  • There are two types of bibliographic database, the one IS bibliographic database with creativlty. theother is bibliographic database without creativlty, The purpose of this paper is to investigate the problemsof bibliographic database with creatlvity by giving consideration of copyright law and the problems ofbihographic database w~thout creat~vity by sui genem system. Thus thls paper provided the methods thatresolve the problems of the current copyright law in order to protect all types of database being producedby way of the cooperation between the libraries and the information service centers. Secondly, this paperprovlded the legal devlces to protect bibliographic database produced by the libraries wh~ch cannot beprotected due to the lack of the creatlvity in the selection or arrangement of the material.
