  • An analytic approach to wide-band amplification using simplified equivalent MESFET modeling has enabled an ultrabroad-band flat-gain amplifier from DC to microwave. The developed lossy-match ultrabroad-band amplifier operates as a RC coupled circuit in the low-frequency range and lossless impedance matching circuit in the microwave frequency range with gain compensation circuits. The reduced gain caused by external resistors is compensated using 2-stage cascade amplification, and the gain of designed unit is 12.5.+-.1dB from the vicinity of DC to 7GAz. The experimental gain characteristics are good agreement with computer simulated results. The input and output VSWRs are measured under 2:1 over the operating frequency range, and the gain goes down over 15dBrange with various gate bias voltages.

  • In this paper, a multiplying digital-to-analog converter (MDAC) circuit for low-power high-resolution CMOS algorithmic A/D converters (ADC's) is proposed. The proposed MDAC is designed to operte properly at a supply at a supply voltge between 3 V and 5 V and employs an analog0domain power reduction technique based on a bias switching circuit so that the total power consumption can be optimized. As metal-to-metal capacitors are implemented as frequency compensation capacitors, opamps' performance can be varied by imperfect process control. The MDAC minimizes the effects by the circuit performance variations with on-chip tuning circuits. The proposed low-power MDAC is implementd as a sub-block of a 10-bit 200kHz algorithmic ADC using a 0.6 um single-poly double-metal n-well CMOS technology. With the power-reduction technique enabled, the power consumption of the experimental ADC is reduced from 11mW to 7mW at a 3.3V supply voltage and the power reduction ratio of 36% is achieved.

  • A practical recursive weighted least square(WLS) solution is proposed to solve the passive ranging problem. Apart from the previous works based on the extended Kalman filter(EKF), to ensure the convergency at long-range, the proposed scheme makes use of line-of-sight(LOS) rate instead of bearing information. The influence of LOS rate measurement errors is investigated and it is asserted that the WLS estimates contain bias and scale factor errors. Together with simple compensation algorithm, the estimation errors of proposed filter can be reduced dramatically.

  • This paper proposes a new noise-biased compensation of minimum statistics(MS) method using a nonlinear function and a priori speech absence probability(SAP) for speech enhancement in non-stationary noisy environments. The minimum statistics(MS) method is well known technique for noise power estimation in non-stationary noisy environments. It tends to bias the noise estimate below that of true noise level. The proposed method is combined with an adaptive parameter based on a sigmoid function and a priori speech absence probability (SAP) for biased compensation. Specifically. we apply the adaptive parameter according to the a posteriori SNR. In addition, when the a priori SAP equals unity, the adaptive biased compensation factor separately increases ${\delta}_{max}$ each frequency bin, and vice versa. We evaluate the estimation of noise power capability in highly non-stationary and various noise environments, the improvement in the segmental signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and the Itakura-Saito Distortion Measure (ISDM) integrated into a spectral subtraction (SS). The results shows that our proposed method is superior to the conventional MS approach.

  • In order for electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) to have accurate target coordinate, accurate navigation results are required. If an integrated navigation system is configured using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) of EOTS and the vehicle's navigation results, navigation results with high rate can be obtained. Due to the time-delay of the navigation results of the vehicle in the EOTS and scale factor errors of the EOTS IMU in high-speed and high dynamic operation of the vehicle, it is much more difficult to have accurate navigation results. In this paper, an integrated navigation system of EOTS which compensates time-delay and scale factor error is proposed. The proposed integrated navigation system consists of vehicle's navigation system which provides time-delayed navigation results, an EOTS IMU, an inertial navigation system (INS), an augmented Kalman filter and integration Kalman filter. The augmented Kalman filter outputs navigation results, in which the time-delay of the vehicle's navigation results is compensated. The integration Kalman filter estimates position, velocity, attitude error of the EOTS INS and accelerometer bias, accelerometer scale factor error, gyro bias and gyro scale factor error from the difference between the output of the augmented Kalman filter and the navigation result of the EOTS INS. In order to check performance of the proposed integrated navigation system, simulations for output data of a measurement generator and land vehicle experiments were performed. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed integrated navigation system provides more accurate navigation results.

  • The group CSD (GCSD) multiplier was recently proposed based on the variation of canonic signed digit (CSD) encoding and partial product sharing. This multiplier provides an efficient design when the multiplications are performed only with a few predetermined coefficients (e.g., FFT). In many DSP applications such as FFT, the (2W-1)-bit product obtained from W-bit multiplicand and W-bit multiplier is quantized to W-bits by eliminating the (W-1) least-significant bits. This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width GCSD multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, the encoded signals from the GCSD multiplier are used for the generation of error compensation bias. By Synopsys simulations, it is shown that the proposed method leads to up to 84% reduction in power consumption and up to 79% reduction in area compared with the fixed-width modified Booth multiplier.

  • We propose a digital signal processing technic that can compensate the non-linearity inherent in audio amplifiers, and present the result of the simulation. The inherent non-linearity of the audio power amplifier arising from analog devices is compensated via a digital signal processing technic consisting of indirect learning architecture and an adaptive filter. The simulation results show that the compensator can be realized using a third-order polynomial and compensates odd-order non-linearity efficiently. The even-oder non-linearity is mainly due to the dc offset at the output, which is difficult to eliminate with the proposed method. Care must be taken in designing the bias circuit to avoid the DC offset at the output. The proposed technic has significance in that digital signal processing technic can compensate for the impairment that is an inherent characteristic of an analog system.

  • Analog-digital converter (ADC) should be one of the most important blocks that convert various physical signals to digital ones for signal processing in the digital signal domain. As most operations of the analog circuit for sensor signal processing have been replaced by digital circuits, high-resolution performance is required for ADC. In addition, low-power must be the critical issue in order to extend the battery time of mobile system. The existing integrating sigma-delta ADCs has a characteristic of high resolution, but due to its low supply voltage condition and advanced technology, circuit error and corresponding resolution degradation of ADC result from the finite gain of the operational amplifier in the integrator. Buffer compensation technique can be applied to minimize gain errors, but there is a disadvantage of additional power dissipation due to the added buffer. In this paper, incremental signal-delta ADC is proposed with buffer switching scheme to minimize current and igh-pass bias circuit to improve the settling time.

  • In this paper, a new design method of asymmetrical configuration of main amplifier and peaking amplifier using changed bias point is proposed for excellent linearity, instead of the conventional Doherty structure. We have utilized the uneven wilkinson power divider for the unequal power drive at the input network of amplifiers. And we proposed a compensating method of the decreasing efficiency due to improving linearity using 3-stage Doherty structures. From the simulation results of asymmetrical Dohertry power amplifier and asymmetrical 3-stage Doherty power amplifier with uneven power drive are implemented. From the implementation and measurement results of the each amplifier, IMD characteristics have -55 dBc as the good efficiency of 13% compensates the decreased entire efficiency due to the improving linearity characteristics.
