  • A column preconcentration method with pulverized Amberlite XAD-4 loaded with bismuthiol I (BI) has been developed for the determination of trace Cd(II) and Cu(II) in various real samples by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Various experimental conditions, such as the size of XAD-4, adsorption flow rate, amount of bismuthiol I, stirring time for adsorbing bismuthiol I on XAD-4, pH of sample solution, amount of XAD-4- BI, desorption solvent, and desorption flow rate, were optimized. Also, the adsorption capacity and the adsorption rate of Cd(II) and Cu(II) on XAD-4-BI were investigated. The interfering effects of various concomitant ions were investigated, Bi(III), Sn(II) and Fe(III) were found to affect the determination. But the interference by these ions was completely eliminated by adjusting the amount of XAD-4-BI resin to 0.70 g, although the adsorption flow rate was slower. For Cd(II) our proposed technique obtained a dynamic range of 0.5-40 ng mL-1, a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9913, and a detection limit of 0.3 ng mL-1. For Cu(II), the corresponding values were 2.0-120 ng mL-1, 0.9921 and 1.02 ng mL-1. To validate this proposed technique, the aqueous samples (stream water, reservoir water, tap water and wastewater), the diluted brass sample and the plastic sample, as real samples, were used. Recovery yields of 91-103% were obtained. These measured data were not different from ICP-MS data at 95% confidence level. Our proposed method was also validated using rice flour CRM (normal, fortified) samples. From the results of our experiment, we found that the technique we present here can be applied to the determination of Cd(II) and Cu(II) in various real samples.

  • Objectives : In 『Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases』, the volume of preparation dosage measured in Hap was 6.5mL. This study aimed to confirm that a square-inch-spoon, which measures powder preparation dosage, was 1/3 Hap, and that Jeon-bi was 1/8 square-inch-spoon. Based on these values, this study also aimed to adjust the diameter of Firmiana-Seed-sized pill preparation, currently known as 6.5mm, so that one square-inch-spoon of powder preparation creates 16 pills. Methods : Calculated the ratio between the floor areas of square-inch-spoon and Jeon-bi and measured the ratio of volume; assumed that powder preparations were stacked as much as possible in the shape of a square pyramid when scooped comfortably, then calculated the slopes of 1/3 Hap and 1/4 Hap; measured the volumes of powdered Oryeongsan and Lijungwhan in square-inch-spoon and Jeon-bi; created the powders into Firmiana-Seed-sized pill preparation; adjusted the diameter of Firmiana Seed so that 16 pills could be created. Results : Inferring from the floor areas, the volume of square-inch-spoon is 9.2 times that of Jeon-bi; one square-inch-spoon should be 1/3 Hap for the powder to reach its maximum slope of 47° and, according to actual measurement of powder preparations, reach its maximum volume; when created into Firmiana-Seed-sized pill preparations, one square-inch-spoon should be 1/3 Hap so that approximately 16 pills were created. Conclusions : One square-inch-spoon of powder preparation was 1/3 Hap(2.17mL), Jeon-bi was 1/8 square-inch-spoon(0.27mL), and the diameter of Firmiana-Seed-sized pill preparation was 5.5mm.

  • Phase equilibria and reaction paths of the superconducting phases and other compatible phases at $850^{\circ}C$ in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system were studied. $Bi_2O_3$ was added to $Sr_2CaCu_2O_x$ by 5% up to 40 mole% Bi in the pseudo-binary $Bi_2O_3-(Sr_2CaCu_2O_x)$ system and the heat treated samples were analysed using XRD. SEM, EDS. and DT A. When Bi contents were greater than 35 mole% Bi, liquid phase was formed which was compatible with $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase. The m.p. of $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase decreased as the content of (Sr+Ca)decreased. $Bi_{2+x}Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase first segregated out of liquid phase around $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ phase during cooling of liquid phase.

  • Bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG, $Bi_{0.5}Y_{2.5}Fe_5O_{12}$) films were deposited with aerosol deposition method and their magnetic and optical properties were investigated as a function of annealing temperature. Since the ceramic films deposited with aerosol deposition method have not a perfect crystal structure due to non-uniform internal stress occurred by mechanical collision during their deposition, the post annealing could be a key process to release its internal stress and to improve its micro structure for optimizing the magnetic and magneto-optic properties of films. The crystallinity of Bi: YIG film was improved with increase of annealing temperature, and the saturation magnetization increased up to 87 emu/cc at $800^{\circ}C$. The Faraday rotation increased up to $1.4deg/{\mu}m$ by annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ around the wavelength of $0.5{\mu}m$. The optical transmittance of the Bi:YIG film was also improved in visible region.

  • Bismuth (Bi) has been an attractive materials for studying spin dependent transport properties because it shows very large magnetoresistance (MR) resulting from its highly anisotropic Fermi surface, low carrier concentrations, long carrier mean free path 1 and small effective carrier mass m*[1-3]. With all the intriguing properties, difficulty in fabrication of high quality Bi thin films may have prevented extensive application of Bi in magnetic field sensing and spin-injection devices. Previous works found that the surface roughness and small grain size in 100-200 nm of Bi thin film made by evaporation and sputtering are major causes of low MR. Although relatively higher MR in electrodeposited Bi followed by annealing was reported, it still suffers from rough sulfate roughness which is so severs that it is hardly able to make a field sensing and spin-injection device using conventional photolithography process.

  • During Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductor wire fabrication the effect of the initial packing density on the final characteristics of superconductor wire was systematically studied. To increase the powder packing density with uniform distribution of superconducting core a billet insertion method processed by CIP was applied instead of the commonly used vibration and ramming method of powder insertion into silver sheath. Compared with the vibration and ramming method the billent insertion technique processed by CIP cause the 30% incre-specimen with 130${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(core thickness : 45 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)and 5.24 mm width processed at 84$0^{\circ}C$for 200hrs. shows specimen with 130${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ (core thickness ; 45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)and 5.24 mm width processed at 84$0^{\circ}C$ for 200 hrs. shows maximum 34A for Ic and 16, 700 A/cm2 for Ic measured at 77K and 0T. Also the sample rolled 3 times shows maximum 7, 2A for Ic and 11, 000 A/cm2 for 77K and 0T. Based on X-ray experimental results the formation of Bi-2223 and texture were significantly well developed at the interface between the superconducting core and silver sheath as compared with those of the interior area of superconducting core.

UAVs operation altitude is determined by the specification of the mission equipment and operational purposes. The link-of-sight analysis of data link equipment before deciding the unmanned aircraft operation altitude conditions should be considered.
