  • Power exchanges between the grid and the battery through a bidirectional DC-DC converter are essential for DC microgrid systems. In general, the battery is charged when the grid is connected, and the system is powered by the battery when the grid is disconnected. In this mode transition, the saturation of the voltage controller slows down output response and produces large transient errors in DC link voltage. To solve this problem, a novel anti-windup design is proposed to improve anti-windup performance further. The proposed method stabilizes DC bus voltage through a wider range of battery voltage with faster transition compared with that of conventional methods. The proposed method is verified through an experimental setup composed of a 125 W laboratory-scale DC microgrid system.

Novel Buck Mode Three-Level Direct AC Converter with a High Frequency Link

  • A novel family of Buck mode three-level direct ac converters with a high frequency link is proposed. These converters can transfer an unsteady high ac voltage with distortion into a regulated sinusoidal voltage with a low THD at the same frequency. The circuit configuration is constituted of a three-level converter, high frequency transformer, cycloconverter, as well as input and output filters. The topological family includes forward, push-pull, half-bridge, and full-bridge modes. In order to achieve a reliable three-level ac-ac conversion, and to overcome the surge voltage and surge current of the cycloconverter, a phase-shifted control strategy is introduced in this paper. A prototype is presented with experimental results to demonstrate that the proposed converters have five advantages including high frequency electrical isolation, lower voltage stress of the power switches, bi-directional power flow, low THD of the output voltage, and a higher input power factor.

  • 본 논문에서는 양방향 충전기용 DC/DC 컨버터와 같이 입력전압과 출력전압이 가변하는 제어시스템에서 비시변 시비율 전달함수를 구현하여 제어특성을 개선하고자 한다. 기존제어기 설계에 의해 설계된 이득을 사용하여 제어를 행할 경우 입력전압의 변동에 따라 제어특성이 가변한다. 전압제어기의 각 이득을 시비율의 역수를 취하여 변화함으로서 전체 제어블록에서 시비율 항을 등가적으로 제거할 수 있는 방법이다. 따라서 본 논문에서 제안된 비시변 시비율 전담함수를 양방향 충전기용 DC/DC컨버터에 적용하여 PSIM을 이용한 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 타당성과 우수성을 검증하였다.

Bi-directional energy transfer process in Er3+-Tm3+-codoped fluorozirconate glasses

  • Energy transfer direction in $Er^{3+}-Tm^{3+}$-codoped fluorozirconate glasses has been studied. For $Er^{3+}-Tm^{3+}$-codoped glasses, the dependence of the green emission intensity on the pump power (Pex) of 800 nm has ranged from (Pex)$^2$ to (Pex)$^3$. From this multistep absorption, a 1.48 $\mu m$ emission from the $^3F_4{\rightarrow}^3H_4$ transition on Tm$^{3+}$ ion has been found to transfer into $^4I_{13/2}$, $^4I_{9/2}$ and $^4S_{3/2}$ on $Er^{3+}$ ion. In case of the 1.06 $\mu m$ pumping, the emissin ratio of $^3H_4$ level in $Tm^{3+}$ to $^4I_{13/2}$ in $Er^{3+}$ showed that the amount of the energy transfer from $Tm^{3+}$ into $Er^{3+}$ increased with the increasing concentration of $Tm^{3+}$ ion. Our two kinds of pumping scheme suggest that the direction of dominant energy transfer between $Er^{3+}$ and $Tm^{3+}$ should be dependent on whether the $^3F_4$ level resonates in $Tm^{3+}$ the level or not.

Disk-averaged Spectra Simulation of Earth-like Exoplanets with Ray-tracing Method

  • The understanding spectral characterization of possible earth-like extra solar planets has generated wide interested in astronomy and space science. The technical central issue in observation of exoplanet is deconvolution of the temporally and disk-averaged spectra of the exoplanets. The earth model based on atmospheric radiative transfer method has been studied in recent years for solutions of characterization of earthlike exoplanet. In this study, we report on the current progress of the new method of 3D earth model as a habitable exoplanet. The computational model has 3 components 1) the sun model, 2) an integrated earth BRDF (Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Function) model (Atmosphere, Land and Ocean) and 3) instrument model combined in ray tracing computation. The ray characteristics such as radiative power and direction are altered as they experience reflection, refraction, transmission, absorption and scattering from encountering with each all of optical surfaces. The Land BRDF characteristics are defined by the semi-empirical "parametric-kernel-method" from POLDER missions from CNES. The ocean BRDF is defined for sea-ice cap structure and for the sea water optical model, considering sun-glint scattering. The input cloud-free atmosphere model consists of 1 layers with vertical profiles of absorption and aerosol scattering combined Rayleigh scattering and its input characteristics using the NEWS product in NASA data and spectral SMARTS from NREL and 6SV from Vermote E. The trial simulation runs result in phase dependent disk-averaged spectra and light-curves of a virtual exoplanet using 3D earth model.

R-URC: Smartphone based RF4CE Universal Remote Control Framework (스마트폰 기반 RF4CE URC 프레임워크의 설계 및 구현)

  • RC(Remote Control) is a technology that can efficiently control and transfer a variety of user commands to CEs. However, the existing RCs have been required various additional features such as communication between CEs, extension of communication range, low power-consumption and bi-directional communication according to the advent of new types of CE devices and its enhanced performance. Even though RC controller has many customers' requests, it is not a simple solution because most legacies work on IR-based RC. In this paper, we propose RF4CE-based Universal Remote Control Framework using Smartphone in order to solve the many constraints of IR legacies. The proposed R-URC system is designed by RF4CE platform which is a kind of de-facto standard for CE remote control communication. From the verification scenarios using various CEs and smart phone, we can see that the proposed R-URC shows the good practical usage in terms of contents sharing and smart CE control.
