Effect of pre-annealing conditions on critical current density of Bi-2223 tapes

  • Bi-2223 superconducting wires with 55 filaments were fabricated by stacking, drawing process with different heat-treatment histories. Two kinds of powders were prepared. One was pre-annealed at 760-820 $^{\circ}C$ and low oxygen partial pressure, and the other was only calcined state. Before rolling process, round wires were pre-annealed at 760 -820 $^{\circ}C$ and in a low oxygen partial pressure. We confirmed that pre-annealing step was to transform Bi-2212 orthorhombic structure from Bi-2212 tetragonal structure and to reduce the formation of second phases at superconducting wire. However Bi-2223 phases were formed at higher pre-annealing temperature. Bi-2223 conductor was needed frequently annealing at low temperature because pre-annealing at precursor powder brought about decrease in workability. We could achieve highest Je of 6500 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at the tape using Bi-2212 orthorhombic phase by introduced slightly overheating at the 1st sintering process.

A study on the mechanical properties of Bi-(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductor tape (Bi-(Pb)-Sr-Ca-O 초전도 선재의 기계적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The critical current density, Jc, of superconductor tape significantly depends on microstructural evolution during mechanical deformation. In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223 superconductor tape by PIT technique, and investigated mechanical properties of mono- and 61-filamentary tapes and their joined tapes. The strength of mono-filament tape was higher than those of 61-filament tape was higher than those of 61-filament tape, respectively. On the other hand, elongation of mono-filament tape, respectively. On the other hand, elongation of mono-filament tape was lower than 61 filament tape. The joined tapes shows lower strength and irreversible strain than those of unjoined tapes. The reduced strength and irreversible strain for joined tape is probably related to the induced damages such as irregular interface and Ag-instrusion in the transition region which acts as a stress concentration.

  • A prototype of solenoidal superconducting magnet using Bi-2223/Ag multi-filamentary tapes was fabricated and tested to investigate its performance. The Bi-2223/Ag tapes were prepared by powder-in-tube method. The dimensions of magnet, which was stacked with 9 double pancakes, were 90 mm in height, 74 mm in outer diameter and 40 mm in clear core. The axial maximum magnet field at the center of the solenoidal magnet was about 0.12 T, and the critical current of coil conductor was about 9 A at 77.3 K.

Effect of Sr/Zr Ratio and Organic Vehicle Addition on Bond Strength of $SrZrO_3 $ Thin Films ($SrZrO_3 $박막의 접착강도에 미치는 Sr/Zr 몰비와 유기화합물 첨가효과)

  • $SrZrO_3 $resistive oxide barriers on Ag sheathed Bi2223 tapes were prepared by the sol-gel and dip coating method to reduce AC coupling loss. The performance of the dip-coated $SrZrO_3 $ thin films was evaluated in terms of bond strength by varying the Sr/Zr mol ratio and the amount of organic vehicle (ethyl cellulose and a-terpineol) additives. The bond strength of the coatings increased as the Sr/Zr ratio decreased and the amount of organic vehicle rose, respectively. It was found that the effect of organic vehicle addition was more pronounced, suggesting that the adherence of the $SrZrO_3 $ films on Bi2223 tapes was governed primarily by the amount of organic vehicle additive.
