  • This paper addresses the problem of unsupervised speech separation based on robust non-negative matrix factorization (RNMF) with ${\beta}$-divergence, when neither speech nor noise training data is available beforehand. We propose a robust version of non-negative matrix factorization, inspired by the recently developed sparse and low-rank decomposition, in which the data matrix is decomposed into the sum of a low-rank matrix and a sparse matrix. Efficient multiplicative update rules to minimize the ${\beta}$-divergence-based cost function are derived. A convolutional extension of the proposed algorithm is also proposed, which considers the time dependency of the non-negative noise bases. Experimental speech separation results show that the proposed convolutional RNMF successfully separates the repeating time-varying spectral structures from the magnitude spectrum of the mixture, and does so without any prior training.

  • Gas chromatographic method was investigated for the chiral separation of several $\beta$-blockeros(atenolol, betaxolol, bisoprolol, metoprolol and pindolol) using (-)-$\alpa$-methoxy-$\alpa$-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl chloride as a chiral derivatizing agent for amino group. Prior to N-acylation, hydroxyl group was converted into O-silyl ethers by react with N-methyl-H-(taimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide. The reaction was selective and rapid and the diasteromeric derivatives were well separated by capillary gas chromatography. (R)-isomers were eluted faster than (S)-isomers when (-)-$\alpa$-methoxy-$\alpa$-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl chloride was used as the chiral derivatizing agent. But in the opposite sequence when (+)-$\alpa$-methoxy-$\alpa$-(trifluoromethyl)phenylacetyl chloride was used. No racemization was found during the reaction.

  • This paper describes the Bayesian approach for reliability demonstration test based on the samples from a finite population. The Bayesian approach involves the technical method about how to combine the prior distribution and the likelihood function to produce the posterior distribution. In this paper, the hypergeometric distribution is adopted as a likelihood function for a finite population. The conjugacy of the beta-binomial distribution and the hypergeometric distribution is shown and is used to make a decision about whether to accept or reject the finite population judging from a viewpoint of faulty goods. A numerical example is also given.

  • Effects of protein heat treatment and surfactant additionoo the orthokindetic stability of $\beta$-lactoglobulin-stabilized emulsions have been investigated under turbulent flow conditions. In studies on protein-stabilized emulsions, samples which had been subjected to heat treatment(i.e. the protein solution orthe emulsion) have been found to be more prone to orthokinetic coalescene than the untreated ones. The emulsions stabilized with protein heated above the denaturation temperature(i.e. 7$0^{\circ}C$) showed the bigger initial average droplet size, which resulted in an increased orthokinetic coalescenece rate. The storage of the protein-stabilized emulsion at high temperature prior to the shearing experiment also made the emulsion less stable in the shear field. Interestingly. the addition of DATEM has been found to produce a substantial increase in orthokinetic stability of the heat-denatured protein-stabilized emulsion system, although Tween 20 is the opposite case.

  • Signature-based Intrusion Detection has many false positive and many difficulties to detect new and changed attacks. Alpha-cut is introduced which reduces false positive with a combination of signature-based IDS and machine learning-based IDS in prior paper [1]. This research is a study of a succession of Alpha-cut, and we introduce Beta-rick in which attacks can be detected but cannot be detected in single signature-based detection. Alpha-cut is a way of increasing detection accuracy for the signature based IDS, Beta-pick is a way which decreases the case of treating attack as normality. For Alpha-cut and Beta-pick we use XIBL as a learning algorithm and also show the difference of result of Sd.5. To describe the value of proposed method we apply Alpha-cut and Beta-pick to signature-based IDS and show the decrease of false alarms.

  • This paper proposes two Bayes estimators and their evaluation algorithms of the software reliability at the end testing stage in the Smith's Bayesian software reliability growth model under the data prior distribution BE(a, b), which is more general than uniform distribution, as a class of prior information. We consider both a squared-error loss function and the Harris loss function in the Bayesian estimation procedures. We also compare the MSE performances of the Bayes estimators and their algorithms of software reliability using computer simulations. And we conclude that the Bayes estimator of software reliability under the Harris loss function is more efficient than other estimators in terms of the MSE performances as a is larger and b is smaller, and that the Bayes estimators using the beta prior distribution as a conjugate prior is better than the Bayes estimators under the uniform prior distribution as a noninformative prior when a>b.

  • In the present study, the influences of grains and precipitates of microstructural evolution on the ultrasonic nonlinearity have been experimentally investigated. The prior-austenite grain and precipitate size are controlled by the variation in austenitizing and tempering conditions in reactor pressure vessel materials of nuclear power plant, SA508 Gr.3 low alloys. The ultrasonic nonlinearity was found to have strong correlations with grains and precipitates since the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter $\beta$ shows decrease trend with coarsening of grains and precipitates. Although the prior-austenite grain size increased, the $\beta$ changed little due to the effects of subgrains, packets and laths. For the preciptate effects, the $\beta$ decreased sharply due to decrease in $Mo_2C$ causing the coherency stain in addition to the precipitate size. The results in this study may provide a potential for characterizing the microstructural evolution, grains and precipitates, by measuring the ultrasonic nonlinearity.

  • BACKGROUND: Acanthopanax divaricatus var. albeofructus (ADA) extract has been reported to have anti-oxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-mutagenic activity. MATERIALS/METHODS: We investigated the effects of ADA extract on two mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD); intracerebroventricular injection of ${\beta}$-amyloid peptide ($A{\beta}$) and amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 (APP/PS1)-transgenic mice. RESULTS: Intra-gastric administration of ADA stem extract (0.25 g/kg, every 12 hrs started from one day prior to injection of $A{\beta}1$-42 until evaluation) effectively blocked $A{\beta}1$-42-induced impairment in passive avoidance performance, and $A{\beta}1$-42-induced increase in immunoreactivities of glial fibrillary acidic protein and interleukin (IL)-$1{\alpha}$ in the hippocampus. In addition, it alleviated the $A{\beta}1$-42-induced decrease in acetylcholine and increase in malondialdehyde levels in the cortex. In APP/PS1-transgenic mice, chronic oral administration of ADA stem extract (0.1 or 0.5 g/kg/day for six months from the age of six to 12 months) resulted in significantly enhanced performance of the novel-object recognition task, and reduced amyloid deposition and IL-$1{\beta}$ in the brain. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that ADA stem extract may be useful for prevention and treatment of AD.

  • ${\beta}-lonone$ has been reported to induce the cytochrome P45O (P45O) 2B1 in rats. In this study, the effects of ${\beta}-ionone$ and an isomer, ${\alpha}-ionone$, on liver P45O IA and 2B expression in Sprague Dawley rats were investigated . Subcutaneous administration of ${\alpha}-$ and ${\beta}-lonone$ 72 and 48hr prior to sacrificing the animals induced the liver microsomal P45O 1A and 2B proteins. P45O 2Bl induction was associated with the accumulation of its corresponding mRNA. 1 Induction by ${\beta}-lonone$ was much higher than that by ${\alpha}-ionone$-ionone in both the mRNA and protein levels. When the route of administration was compared, P45O 2B was induced more strongly after oral administration compared to that after subcutaneous injection. A single oral dose of 100, 300 and 600 mg/kg of ${\alpha}-$ and ${\beta}-lonone$ for 24 h induced P45O 2B1 -selective pentoxyresorufin Odepentylase activity comparably in a dose-dependent manner In addition, ${\alpha}-$ and ${\beta}-lonone$ induced the P45O 1A and 2B proteins. These results suggest that ${\alpha}-$ and ${\beta}-lonone$ might be potent P45O 2Bl inducers in rats, and that both ionones may be useful for examining the role of metabolic activation in chemical-induced toxicity where metabolic activation is required.
