  • Small-sized IoT wireless sensing devices can be deployed with small aircraft such as drones, and the deployment of mobile IoT devices can be relocated to suit data collection with efficient relocation algorithms. However, the terrain may not be able to predict its shape. Mobile IoT devices suitable for these terrains are hopping devices that can move with jumps. So far, most hopping sensor relocation studies have made the unrealistic assumption that all hopping devices know the overall state of the entire network and each device's current state. Recent work has proposed the most realistic distributed network environment-based relocation algorithms that do not require sharing all information simultaneously. However, since the shortest path-based algorithm performs communication and movement requests with terminals, it is not suitable for an area where the distribution of obstacles is uneven. The proposed scheme applies a simple Monte Carlo method based on relay nodes selection random variables that reflect the obstacle distribution's characteristics to choose the best relay node as reinforcement learning, not specific relay nodes. Using the relay node selection random variable could significantly reduce the generation of additional messages that occur to select the shortest path. This paper's additional contribution is that the world's first distributed environment-based relocation protocol is proposed reflecting real-world physical devices' characteristics through the OMNeT++ simulator. We also reconstruct the three days-long disaster environment, and performance evaluation has been performed by applying the proposed protocol to the simulated real-world environment.

  • Nowadays modern cities develop in a very rapid speed. Buildings become larger than ever and the interior structures of the buildings are even more complex. This drives a high demand for precise and accurate indoor navigation systems. Although the existing commercially available 2D indoor navigation system can help users quickly find the best path to their destination, it does not intuitively guide users to their destination. In contrast, an indoor navigation system combined with augmented reality technology can efficiently guide the user to the destination in real time. Such practical applications still have various problems like position accuracy, position drift, and calculation delay, which causes errors in the navigation route and result in navigation failure. During the navigation process, the large computation load and frequent correction of the displayed paths can be a huge burden for the terminal device. Therefore, the navigation algorithm and navigation logic need to be improved in the practical applications. This paper proposes an improved navigation algorithm and navigation logic to solve the problems, creating a more accurate and effective augmented reality indoor navigation system.

  • Soils are porous materials with high shielding capability to attenuate gamma and X-rays. The disposal of radionuclides throughout the soil profile can expose the living organisms to ionizing radiation. Thus, studies aiming to analyze the shielding properties of the soils are of particular interest for radiation shielding. Investigations on evaluating the shielding capabilities of highly weathered soils are still scarce, meaning that additional research is necessary to check their efficiency to attenuate radiation. In this study, the radiation shielding properties of contrasting soils were evaluated. The radiation interaction parameters assessed were attenuation coefficients, mean free path, and half- and tenth-value layers. At low photon energies, the photoelectric absorption contribution to the attenuation coefficient predominated, while at intermediate and high photon energies, the incoherent scattering and pair production were the dominant effects. Soils with the highest densities presented the best shielding properties, regardless of their chemical compositions. Increases in the attenuation coefficient and decreases in shielding parameters of the soils were associated with increases in clay, Fe2O3, Al2O3, and TiO2 amounts. In addition, this paper provides a comprehensive description of the shielding properties of weathered soils showing the importance of their granulometric fractions and oxides to the attenuation of the radiation.

  • This paper presents a method to find a target using UAVs in LoRa communication environment. The proposed method proposes a UAV flight path so that the target signal can be found without blind spots. The flight path was changed by using the intensity of the transmitted signal during the flight using the variation of the signal strength. We verified the proposed method by simulation and confirmed that it takes a long time to track the target, although the efficiency of the 3 flights is high. It is best to fly three UAVs to reduce time to find target and increase efficiency when the time is a critical factor. The LoRa communication lowers the production cost and makes it possible to construct the system at low cost.

  • This paper proposes a determination method of waypoints to maximize the survivability of a UAV. Voronoi diagram which is used for the initial selection of waypoint candidates is the most widely used path planning technique to avoid the threat as far as possible when the location and strength of the threat are given. But if threat strength is different each other and flight path is constrained along with straight lines, Voronoi diagram has limitations in real applications. In this study, the initial waypoints obtained from Voronoi diagram are optimized considering the shape of each threat. Here, a waypoint is optimized while adjacent waypoints are fixed. By repeating this localized optimization until whole waypoints are converged, computation time for finding the best waypoints is greatly reduced.

  • A methodology is proposed to estimate a trajectory of a flying target and its velocity using the time and frequency analysis of the acoustic signal. The measurement of sound emitted from a flying acoustic source with a microphone above a ground shall receive both direct and ground-reflected sound waves. For certain frequency contents, the destructive interference happens in received signal waveform reflected path lengths are in multiple integers of direct path length. This phenomenon is referred to as the acoustical mirror effect and it can be observed in a spectrogram plot. The spectrogram of acoustic measurement for a flying vehicle measurement shows several orders of destructive interference curves. The first or second order of curve is used to find the best approximate path by using nonlinear least-square method. Simulated acoustic signal is generated for the condition of known geometric of a sensor and a source in flight. The estimation based on cepstrogram analysis provides more accurate estimate than spectrogram.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the roles of expected self-control and expected self-control results in explaining adolescents' Internet addiction. In the study model, expectations of self-control and self-control results directly determine Internet addiction and Internet use time meditates the impacts of expectations of self-control and self-control results on Internet addiction. The study subjects are 1,080 middle and high school students in Busan. Stratified cluster sampling is applied by school type and school year. The response rate is 96%(l,037cases). This study develops the scales of expected self-control and expected self-control results. The scales of Internet addiction are devised by using the concept of functional dependency such as salience, withdrawal symptoms, mood modification, tolerance, relapse, and conflict. For verifying the study model, path analysis and multiple regression models are applied for identifying path significants and evaluating confounding effects of control variables, respectively. Moreover, multi partial F-test is performed for selecting the best regression model. Expected self-control is a significant determinant of Internet addiction and Internet use time that also significantly explains Internet addiction. The total effect of expected self-control towards Internet addiction is -.95. The total effect is comprised with the direct effect (-.71) and the indirect effect(-.24). In this result, the direct effect refers a curative effect since expected self-control directly reduces the level of Internet addiction, and the indirect effect refers a preventive effect because self-control can reduce time of Internet use that is a direct determinant of Internet addiction. In the test of the confounding effects of control variables, there are no confounding effects in the models of multiple regression. It implies a robustness of the study model as regards control variables. In conclusion, improving adolescents' expected self-control can control Internet addiction level. This finding implies that a health promotion program for improving expected self-control can be a cost effective method compared to other approaches.

  • Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) has drawn much attention due to wide service coverage with low system cost. However, WMN suffers from high bit error rate, which provides different link capacity among wireless mesh routers. The conventional routing metrics select the path based on link quality. The link with the best quality is preferred as the data transmission path, and they becomes the bottleneck links, which leads to network performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a routing metric that considers the available bandwidth and the number of nodes suffering congestion in the path. Through computer simulations, we verified that the proposed routing metric outperforms the existing routing metrics in terms of average transmission delay, packet loss, system throughput.

  • A large amount of work has been done in the areas of routing, MAC, QoS, capacity, location service, cooperative communication, fault tolerance, mobility models and various applications of mesh networks thanks to their merits of cost-effective way of deployment and flexibility in extending wireline services. Although multi-path routing protocols have been proposed to be used to provide QoS and fault-tolerance, there has not been any significant results discussed that support both in the literature to our best knowledge as they are often required in military and public safety applications. In this paper, we present a novel routing protocol for a mesh network based on the OFDM-TDMA collision-free MAC that discovers and maintains multiple paths that allows retransmitting and forwarding packets that have been blocked due to a link failure using an alternative next-hop node such that the delay-capacity tradeoff is reduced and the reliability is enhanced. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs well in terms of both the QoS and delivery ratio.

  • Abstract This paper presents a heuristic method for optimal design of water distribution system with multiple sources and potential links. In multiple source pipe network, supply rate at each source node affects the total cost of the system because supply rates are not uniquely determined. The Linear Minimum Cost Flow (LMCF) model may be used to a large scale pipe network with multiple sources to determine supply rate at each source node. In this study the heuristic method based on the LMCF is suggested to determine supply rate at each source node and then to optimize the given layout. The heuristic method in turn perturbs links in the longest path of the network to obtain the supply rates which make the optimal design of the pipe network. Once the best tree network is obtained, the frequency count of reconnecting links by considering link failure is in turn applied to form loop to enhance the reliability of the best tree network. A sample pipe network is employed to test the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can yield a lower cost design than the LMCF alone and that the proposed method can be efficiently used to design irrigation systems or rural water distribution systems.
