Neutronic assessment of BDBA scenario at the end of Isfahan MNSR core life

  • The present study aims to assess the excess induced reactivity in a Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) for a Beyond Design Basis Accident (BDBA) scenario. The BDBA scenario as defined in the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) of the reactor involves sticking of the control rod and filling of the inner and outer irradiation sites with water. At the end of the MNSR core life, 10.95 cm of Beryllium is added to the top of the core as a reflector which affects some neutronic parameters such as effective delayed neutrons fraction (${\beta}_{eff}$), the reactivity worth of inner and outer irradiation sites that are filled with water and the reactivity worth of the control rod. Given those influences and changes, new neutronic calculations are required to be able to demonstrate the reactor safety. Therefore, a validated MCNPX model is used to calculate all neutronic parameters at the end of the reactor core life. The calculations show that the induced reactivity in the BDBA scenario increases at the end of core life to $7.90{\pm}0.01mk$ which is significantly higher than the induced reactivity of 6.80 mk given in the SAR of MNSR for the same scenario but at the beginning of the core's life. Also this value is 3.90 mk higher than the maximum allowable operational limit (i.e. 4.00 mk).

  • Micro-drawn parts have received wider acceptance as products become smaller and more precise. The subject of this study was the deformation characteristics of ultra thin sheet metal in micro drawing of a rectangular shaped part. The influence of drawing speed and blank holding force on the product quality was investigated in micro-drawing of ultra thin sheet of beryllium copper (C1720) alloy. The specimen had a diameter of 4.8 mm and a thickness of $50{\mu}m$. Experiments were carried out in which, different blank holding force and drawing speed were considered. The product quality was evaluated by measuring the thickness and hardness along two specified directions, namely, the side and diagonal directions. The distribution of the thickness strain showed severe thinning especially around the punch radius in both directions. In the diagonal direction, thickening occurred in the flange area due to the axi-symmetric drawing mode. The increase of blank holding force and/or drawing speed was found to cause severe thinning around the punch radius. The blank holding force had a greater effect on thinning of the product than the drawing speed.

  • 정보화 사회의 발전과 함께 멀티미디어에 대한 관심이 집중되고 있으며, 점유 공간이 작고 가벼우며 대면적이 가능한 정보 표시 디스플레이에 대한 기술은 고부가가치 산업으로 인식되어 지고 있다. 이러한 정보 표시 디스플레이들 중, 전기 발광 소자 (Electroluminescence Display : ELD), 액정 표시 디스플레이 (Liquid Crystal Display LCD), 플라즈마 디스플레이 (Plasma Display Panel) 등의 대한 연구가 세계적으로 매우 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 란탄 계열의 금속 착 화합물인 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen)과 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen-Cl)를 이용해 다비이스를 제작한후 광학적 및 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 luminous efficiency와 cyclic voltametric 방법을 이용해 에너지 밴드로 두 발광 물질인 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen)과 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen-Cl)을 비교.분석하였다. 본 연구의 디바이스 구조를 보면 anode/hole transporting layer (HTL)/emitting material layer (EML)/electron transporting layer (ETL)/cathode와 같고 ETL를 aluminum-tris- (8-hydroxyquinoline) (Alq$_3$)와 bis(10-hydroxybenzo(h)quinolinato)beryllium (Bebq$_2$)를 사용하였으며 HTL 로 N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD)를 사용하였다.

Synthesis and Application of the Novel Azomethine Metal Complexes for the Organic Electroluminescent Devices

  • New azomethine metal complexes were synthesized systematically and characterized. Beryllium, magnesium, or zinc ions were used as a central metal cation and aromatic azomethines (L1-L4) were employed as a chelating anionic ligand. Emission peaks o f the complexes in both solution and solid states were observed mostly at the region of 400-500 nm in the luminescence spectra, where blue light was emitted. Three of them (BeL1 (Ⅰ), ZnL2 (Ⅱ), and ZnL3 (Ⅲ)) were sublimable and thus were applied to the organic light-emitting devices (OLED) as an emitting layer, respectively. The device including the emitting layer of Ⅰ exhibited white emission with the broad luminescence spectral range. The device with the emitting layer of Ⅱ showed blue luminescence with the maximum emission peak at 460 nm. Their ionization potentials, electron affinities, and electrochemical band gaps were investigated with cyclic voltammetry. The electrochemical gaps of 2.98 for I, 2.70 for Ⅱ, and 2.63 eV for Ⅲ were found to be consistent with their respective optical band gaps of 3.01, 2.95 and 2.61 eV within an experimental error. The structure of OLED manufactured in this study reveals that these complexes can work as electron transporting materials as well.

ECONOMIC VIABILITY TO BeO-UO2 FUEL BURNUP EXTENSION

  • This paper presents the quantitative analysis results of research on the burnup effect on the nuclear fuel cycle cost of BeO-$UO_2$ fuel. As a result of this analysis, if the burnup is 60 MWD/kg, which is the limit under South Korean regulations, the nuclear fuel cycle cost is 4.47 mills/kWh at 4.8wt% of Be content for the BeO-$UO_2$ fuel. It is, however, reduced to 3.70 mills/kWh at 5.4wt% of Be content if the burnup is 75MWD/kg. Therefore, it seems very advantageous, in terms of the economic aspect, to develop BeO-$UO_2$ fuel, which does not have any technical problem with its safety and is a high burnup & long life cycle nuclear fuel.

The applicability study and validation of TULIP code for full energy range spectrum

  • NECP-SARAX is a neutronics analysis code system for advanced reactor developed by Nuclear Engineering Computational Physics Laboratory of Xi'an Jiaotong University. In past few years, improvements have been implemented in TULIP code which is the cross-section generation module of NECP-SARAX, including the treatment of resonance interface, considering the self-shielding effect in non-resonance energy range, hyperfine group method and nuclear library with thermal scattering law. Previous studies show that NECP-SARAX has high performance in both fast and thermal spectrum system analysis. The accuracy of TULIP code in fast and thermal spectrum system analysis is demonstrated preliminarily. However, a systematic verification and validation is still necessary. In order to validate the applicability of TULIP code for full energy range, 147 fast spectrum critical experiment benchmarks and 170 thermal spectrum critical experiment benchmarks were selected from ICSBEP and used for analysis. The keff bias between TULIP code and reference value is less than 300 pcm for all fast spectrum benchmarks. And that bias keeps within 200 pcm for thermal spectrum benchmarks with neutron-moderating materials such as polyethylene, beryllium oxide, etc. The numerical results indicate that TULIP code has good performance for the analysis of fast and thermal spectrum system.

대전 3, 4 공단지역의 대기중 독성금속의 인체 위해도 평가 (Health Risk Assessment of Airborne Toxic Metals in Taejon Third and Fourth Industrial Complexes)

  • The research centers on the health risk assessment of airborne toxic metals in Taejon third and fourth industrial complexes. Total suspended particulates were collected on glass microfibre filters by high volume air samplers. Fifteen toxic metals including 6 carcinogenic metals were analyzed by ICP-MS and ICP-AES after the pre-treatment of mixed acid extraction. The following results were summarized from the research : 1) the concentrations of TSPs were $17.7{\sim}219.6{\mu}g/m^3$ while the arithmetic mean concentration was $101.7{\mu}g/m^3$; 2) the arithmetic mean concentrations of human carcinogens such as arsenic, hexavalent chromium and nickel subsulfide were 10.22, 6.96 and 6.42 $ng/m^3$, respectively while those of probable human carcinogens such as beryllium, cadmium and lead were 0.13, 3.41, 97.65 $ng/m^3$, respectively; 3) the point risk estimate for the inhalation of carcinogenic metals was $1.5{\times}10^{-4}$, which was much higher than a risk standard of $10^{-5}$; 4) approximately 93% of the cancer risk were to the inhalation of human carcinogens, arsenic and hexavalent chromium, which should be properly managed in Taejon third and fourth industrial complexes.

예방교체부품을 가지는 전자파차폐용 문세트의 신뢰성입증시험법 (Reliability Demonstration Test Method for Electromagnetic Shielding Doorset with a Sub-Unit Subjected to Preventive Replacement)

  • 전자파차폐용 문세트는 기계적 강도 및 내구성과 전자파 차폐라는 전기적 성능 요구를 동시에 충족시켜야 하므로 이에 알맞은 신뢰성입증시험법의 정립이 요구된다. 특히 전자파 차폐 성능에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 핑거스트립이라고 불리는 베링륨동 재질의 박형 스프링 하위 부품은 문짝과 직접적인 반복 건조마찰이 발생하므로 내구성에 만전을 기해야 하는 부위인데, 산업계에서는 주기적인 보전이 필요한 이 핑거스트립의 교체주기에 대한 보증도 또한 필요한 실정이다. 이러한 요구들에 대응하여 본 연구에서는 전자파차폐용문세트의 시험항목들을 정하고 전체 시스템 수명뿐만 아니라 교체품의 교체주기에 대한 보증을 단순한 방법으로 동시수행하는 입증시험을 설계하였다. 결론적으로 하위 교체부품을 가지는 직렬 시스템의 신뢰성입증시험에서는 교체품의 교체주기에 대한 보증도 항상 함께 포함시킬 것을 제안한다.

A design of transmission-type multi-target X-ray tube based on electric field modulation

  • Multi-target X-ray tube is a new type X-ray source, and can be applied in many fields such as sensitive X-ray fluorescence analysis and medical imaging. In this work, we report an electric field modulation multi-target X-ray tube, which contains four targets (Cr, Ni, Au, Mo) coated on a Beryllium (Be) window. A four-valve electric field deflector was developed to deflect the electron beam to bombard the corresponding targets. Particle dynamics analysis software was employed to simulate the particle tracking of electron beam. The results show that the 30 keV electron beam could get a 6.7 mm displacement on the target plane by 105 V/m electric field. The focus areas are about 2 mm × 5 mm and 4 mm × 2.5 mm after deflection in two directions. Thermal behavior calculated by ANSYS shows that the designed target assembly could withstand a 10 W continuous power. The optimum target thicknesses and emission spectra were obtained by Geant4 when the thickness of Be window was 300 mm and the electron beam incident angle was 0.141 rad. The results indicate that this multi-target X-ray tube could provide different X-ray sources effectively.

대전공단지역의 대기중 독성금속에 대한 위해도 평가 (Risk Assessment of Airborne Toxic Metals in Thejon Industrial Complex)

  • The research centers on the concentration profile and risk assessment of toxic metals for ambient air in Taejon industrial complex. Airborne concentrations of each toxic metal for risk assessment were obtained from 2-year sampling by high volume air sampler and analysis by ICP-MS and ICP-AES in the complex. The long-term arithmetic mean of human carcinogen, arsenic, hexavalent chromium and nickel subsulfide was 5.53, 2.16 and $3.46ng/m^3$ while the mean of probable human carcinogen, beryllium, cadmium and lead was 0.08, 2.35, $293.29ng/m^3$, respectively. And the long-term arithmetic mean concentration of non-carcinogenic metal, manganese was $55.91ng/m^3$. The point risk estimate for the inhalation of carcinogenic metals was $3.6{\times}10^{-5}$, which was higher than a risk standard of $10^{-5}$. About 75% of the cancer risk was to the inhalation of human carcinogen, arsenic. Thus, it is necessary to properly manage arsenic risk in Taejon industrial complex. The point hazard index by the inhalation of manganese was 1.1. Therefore, an investigation into Taejon industrial complex is needed to obtain more fine long-term concentration data for airborne non-carcinogenic metals including manganese.
