  • This paper evaluates the BER performance of MC-DS-CDMA systems in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel, considering the carrier frequency offset and the nonlinear high power amplifier. In the uplink MC-DS-CDMA, the BER performance is better than in the downlink. This paper presents the required output back-off of the nonlinear amplifier and value of frequency offset for good BER performance.

  • I perform bit error rate(BER) analysis of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems impaired by both direct current(DC) offset and carrier frequency offset. By analyzing the BER performance for real OFDM systems employing 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) and pilot symbol estimation, the dependency of BER on the DC offset and carrier frequency offset is quantified and compared to ideal performance. Results show that the magnitude of frequency offset and DC offset are required to be less than 0.01 and 0.007, respectively.

  • In this paper, we analyze the BER performance of OFDM/QPSK system in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel with impulsive noise and improve its performance by adopting convolutional coding. When the channel delay time is shorter than the guard band, the OFDM/QPSK system shows a good BER performance while, when the channel delay time becomes longer than the guard band, its BER performance is abruptly degraded. Moreover, when the transmitted signal is contaminated by a strong impulsive noise in the channel, the BER performance falls to about $10^{-1}$. Also, without channel coding technique, the system doesn't meet even the voice service requirement while it meets the data service requirement with convolutional coding in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel with impulsive noise.

  • Reliable high-speed data communications over insufficient channel bandwidth is one of the major challenges of harsh wireless environments that push the achievable spectral efficiency far below its theoretical limits. A Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) scheme is a userful modulation technique for achieving high data rate transmission without increasing the bandwidth of wireless communication systems. The exact general bit error rate (BER) expression of arbitrary rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation has not yet been derived. In this paper, a generalized closed-form expression for the BER performance of rectangular QAM with Gray code bit mapping is derived and analyzed in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. First we analyze the BER performance of an I-ary PAM scheme. Regular patterns in the k-th bit error probability are observed while developing the EBR expression. From these patterns we provide the exact and general closed-from EBR expression of an I-ary PAM. Then we present a general closed-from expression for BER of an arbitrary IXJ rectangular QAM by considering that this signaling format consists of two PAM scheme, i.e., I-ary and J-ary PAM. A simple approximate BER expression for rectangular QAM is given as well.

  • In-phase/quadrature (I/Q) imbalances, which are generated by non-ideal transceiver components, are inevitable physical phenomena that cause the performance of practical communication systems to be degraded. In this paper, we provide a new closed-form expression for the bit error rate of hierarchical M-ary phase shift keying with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances and analyze the effect of I/Q imbalances on BER performance over an additive white Gaussian noise channel.

  • In this paper, we present a method to evaluate the BER performance of a coherent QPSK system using an adaptive array to eliminate CCI and demonstrate closed-form expressions for obtaining exact BER of the desired user for the case in which the time delays of all users are equal. The theoretical results are verified by computer simulation under the assumption that Least Mean Square beamforming algorithm is employed.

  • Reed-Solomon code, block interleaving and SI (side information) are frequently used in SFH (slow frequency hopping) system. Erasing those symbols in the hit frequency slot greatly increases the error connection capacity. Packet error rate has been the major performance measure for SFH system. The analysis of BER has been limited to the case of perfect Sl, in which neither miss nor false alarm exists. BER with imperfect Sl has been obtained only by Monte Carlo simulation. In this paper, we present a unified solution to estimate BER with imperfect Sl. It is shown that previous formulae for packet error rate or BER with perfect Sl are special cases in the proposed solution. The computed BER with false alarm and miss of frequency hit is verified by comparing with the simulation result.

  • This paper proposes a 3-user non-interfering binary pulse amplitude modulation(2PAM) and non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) scheme, to improve the bit-error rate(BER) performance of the weakest channel user with the tolerable BER loss of the stronger channel users. First, we design the 3-user non-interfering 2PAM NOMA, and then derive the closed-form expressions for the BERs of the proposed scheme. Numerical results are also presented to demonstrate that the BER of the weakest channel user improves greatly, with the small BER losses of the stronger channel users. As a result, the non-interfering 2PAM could be considered in NOMA of 5G systems.
