We study how the three antecedents of trust such as integrity, ability and benevolence affect trust building, based on the articles extracted from the New York Times during 1981-2010. Major findings are that the ratio of negative impact on trust from integrity is 86%, whereas the ratios of positive impact on trust from ability and benevolence are 70% and 71% respectively. Statistical tests show that the hypothesis that the negative impact of integrity on trust build-up will be higher is supported, but the most unstructured benevolence related hypotheses are not confirmed due to small sample sizes. Based on the study, we suggest that the future direction of IT application should accommodate benevolence factor seriously to fulfill corporate social responsibility.
Previous studies have demonstrated that the three dimensions of Triple Bottom Line (TBL : economic, social, and environmental responsibility) indirectly affect product/corporate evaluation through reciprocity perception and trust (expertize-based trust and benevolence-based trust). Different from the past studies, this study investigates on the indirect effects as well as the direct effects of the three dimensions on product/corporate evaluation. The empirical results can be summarized as follows. First, reciprocity perception affects benevolence-based trust but it does not expertize-based trust. Second, the effect of economic dimension on product/corporate evaluation is not affected by reciprocity perception and benevolence-based trust, however, the effects of social dimension and environmental dimension on product/corporate evaluation are affected by reciprocity perception and benevolence-based trust.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the paths of influence that a hospital's ethical climate exerts on nurses' organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior, with supervisor trust as the mediating factor, and verify compatibility of the models in hospital nurses. Methods: The sample consisted of 374 nurses recruited from four hospitals in 3 cities in Korea. The measurements included the Ethical Climate Questionnaire, Supervisor Trust Questionnaire, Organizational Commitment Questionnaire and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Questionnaire. Ethical Climate Questionnaire consisted of 6 factors; benevolence, personal morality, company rules and procedures, laws and professional codes, self-interest and efficiency. Data were analysed using SPSS version 18.0 and AMOS version 18.0. Results: Supervisor trust was explained by benevolence and self-interest (29.8%). Organizational commitment was explained by benevolence, supervisor trust, personal morality, and rules and procedures (40.4%). Organizational citizenship behavior was explained by supervisor trust, laws and codes, and benevolence (21.8%). Conclusion: Findings indicate that managers need to develop a positive hospital ethical climate in order to improve nurses' trust in supervisors, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior.

This study identifies the antecedents of trust in the examination of the effects of the antecedents of trust on trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships. A total of 92 apparel manufactures participated in this study. A factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Five antecedents of trust were classified: flexibility, opportunistic behavior, communication, specific investment, reputation. Two factors of trust were identified: credibility and benevolence. Flexibility, communication, and reputation of a contractor positively influenced the credibility of an apparel manufacture in a contractor. Flexibility, communication, and specific investment of a contractor positively relate to the benevolence of an apparel manufacture in a contractor. However, the opportunistic behavior of a contractor did not relate to either the credibility of an apparel manufacture or the benevolence in a contractor. The results of this study provide empirical evidence of the impact of flexibility, communication, specific investment, reputation on trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships, and additional insight for selecting contractors that seek to improve trust in apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships.
Purpose: Thisstudy aimsto explore the mechanism by which poverty alleviation labelsinfluence purchase intentionsin the e-commerce environment, as well as the role of mediating factors within this process. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: The research employs a questionnaire survey method, targeting a sample of 1668 consumers in Anhui Province, China. It focuses on understanding the impact of poverty alleviation labels on e-commerce platforms and the involvement of mediating factors like capability trust, benevolence trust, and honesty trust in this relationship. Results: The results indicate that poverty alleviation labels on e-commerce platforms significantly enhance consumers' purchase intentions. Regression analysis validates the positive impact of poverty alleviation labels on purchase intentions, capability trust, benevolence trust, and honesty trust, revealing the existence of mediating effects. Conclusions: The study provides empirical support for e-commerce poverty alleviation marketing, emphasizing the importance of focusing on and strengthening consumer trust in products. It offers profound insights for both academic research and practical operations in related fields. However, the research is limited to Anhui Province, and future studies could consider expanding the sample size to gain a deeper understanding of regional and cultural variations. Additionally, further research is encouraged to explore the applicability of the findings to other sales channels.
As business marketers placed greater emphasis on building long-term relationships, trust has assumed a central role in the development of marketing theory(Dwyer, Schurr, and Oh 1987; Mogan and Hung 1994) and practice(Dertouzos, Lester, and Solow 1989). Marketing research on trust primarily focuses on two targets of trust: supplier firms and their salesperson. Trust of firm and trust of salesperson, though related, represent different concepts(Doney and Cannon 1997). Also, the definition of trust proposed by Ganesan(1994) reflects two distinct components: (1) credibility, which is based on the extent to which the buyer believes that the seller has the required expertise to perform the job effectively and reliably and (2) benevolence, which is based on the extent to which the buyer believes that the seller has intentions and motives beneficial to the buyer when new conditions arise, conditions for which a commitment was not made. The existing marketing research focuses on how trust of a firm and its salesperson has a differential effects on loyalty. However, these extant research pays little attention to the moderating effects that explicitly examine how two trust dimensions of salesperson(credibility and benevolence) affects loyalty of firm. The purpose of this study is to provide new insight into boundary conditions(individualism and industry type) that credibility and benevolence influences loyalty.
In this study we postulated that the trust plays an essential mediating role in the relationship between the corporate social responsibility activities and corporate evaluation and product evaluation. In addition, we examined the perception difference to the Korean-Chinese consumers in these relations. A model integrating four types of CSR activities(economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic), three dimensions of trust(integrity trust, expertise trust, social benevolence trust), and the corporate evaluation, product evaluation was tested using data of 400 consumers. The results of the data analysis showed that the economic responsibility and ethical responsibility had a significant influence on the integrity trust, expertise trust and benevolence trust in the case of the Korean consumers. But, in the Chinese consumers, the economic responsibility positively influenced on the expertise trust and benevolence trust. The legal esponsibility had a significant impact on the integrity trust and benevolence trust in the case of both Korean consumers and Chinese consumers. Also, ethical responsibility positively influenced on the integrity trust and benevolence trust in the case of Chinese consumers. Finally, philanthropic responsibility had not significant influence on the expertise trust in case of both Korean consumers and Chinese consumers. The results of this study will help corporations to understand the relative importance among the four responsibilities and to make decisions in allocating their resources.

This paper aims to provide an overview of customer trust toward Islamic banks, and to study the effect of trust on the selection of Islamic banks services. A total 375 questionnaires were distributed to the three groups of bank customers, i.e. Islamic banks customers, conventional banks customers, and customers of both banks (125 respondents in each group). Trust is measured based on three constructs, namely Ability, Integrity, and Benevolence. To test the hypothesis this study employs Analysis of Variance and Tukey Test. The results show that bank customers have degree of trust towards Islamic banks relatively high enough, although among the respondents had never become customers of Islamic banks. Benevolence as the dimension with the lowest average score revealed the Islamic banks are more believed as a competent and honest bank in carrying out the business than the bank that will work for the benefit of customers. Other findings suggest that degree of trust have significant affects on the decision for using the Islamic banks services. The positive values that embedded in the concepts and systems of the Islamic is the key to improving the competitiveness of Islamic banks.
A literature has demonstrated that the three dimensions of corporate sustainable management activities (economic, social, and environmental responsibility) affect corporate performance via reciprocity and trust (expertize-based trust and benevolence-based trust) perception. However, previous studies show some inconsistent results for the effects of reciprocity and trust perception on the relationship between corporate sustainable management activities and corporate performance. Thus, this paper re-analyzes the relationships between the constructs based on various industries and customers. The empirical results can be summarized as follows. Expertise-based trust is affected not by social responsibility and environmental responsibility but economic responsibility.
