  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the benefit-cost analysis for photovoltaic system in greenhome. Perspectives of benefit-cost analysis for photovoltaic system in greenhome is participant, non-participant, administrator and nation. This study identifies the cost and benefit components and benefit-cost calculation procedures from four major perspectives : participant, non-participant, administrator and nation. The results of benefit-cost analysis from each perspective can be expressed in a variety of ways, but in all cases it is necessary to calculate the net present value of photovoltaic system impacts over the lifecycle of those impacts.

  • Since the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) would be started in 2012, the use of renewable energy should be 11% of total energy use including bio-fuel in 2030. The economic efficiency for renewable energy in B power plant was considered with the bio-diesel, wind power and solar power. The Net Present Value (NPV) and Benefit/Cost Ratio(BC) were used for the economic efficiency with the cost and benefit analysis. In case of bio-diesel, the cost resulted from the fuel conversion and the benefit would be created with trade and environmental improvement. With regard to wind power and solar power, the construction cost would be required and benefit factors would be same as the bio-diesel. The wind power was the best of economic efficiency of renewable energy as the results of NPV and BC ratio. Whereas, the market of wind power was very popular and the techniques of wind power has been developing rapidly.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of home visiting care service and to evaluate the effect from the cost-benefit among older people. Methods: The target participants were enrolled in 2007 and they were classified into 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, and 4 years according to their service provision period. We analyzed health insurance claims data and entitlement data from the National Health Insurance Service databases between 2006 and 2010. This study examined the participants' social-economic and health status factors related to total medical expense. Cost-benefit analysis was done using the net benefit and benefit/cost ratio. Results: Based on the use of home visiting service, the effect was reduced by 223,914 won. The cost for 952,109 people aged 65 or older was 39,891,462,882 won and the benefit was 213,190,534,626 won. The net benefit was 173,299,071,744 won and the benefit/cost ratio was 5.34 times, which was very economical. Conclusion: Home visiting health care should continue to expand as a means of economically effective health care for people aged 65 and older and to ensure health equity for vulnerable groups.

  • The quantitative evaluation method of the safety management cost was suggested to prevent a gas accident as a major industrial accident. In a gas governor station, process risk assessments such as the fault tree analysis(FTA) and the consequence analysis were performed. Based on process risk assessments, potential accident costs were estimated and the cost-benefit analysis(CBA) was performed. From the cost-benefit analysis for five classification items of safety management cost, the order of the cost/benefit ratio was estimated.

  • This study performed a benefit cost analysis of an automatic eggshell crack detection system. Based on various cost benefit analysis methods, including the net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and benefit cost ratio (B/C Ratio), the automatic eggshell crack detection system was confirmed to have economic validity. The NPVs were 175,035,645 won at a 5% discount rate and 129,082,393 won at a 10% discount rate. Plus, the IRRs were 0.686 at a 5% discount rate and 0.660 at a 10% discount rate. Finally, the B/C ratios were 1.981 at a 5% discount rate and 1.900 at a 10% discount rate.

  • This paper was conducted to study the economic valuation for Nursery-Phase production of the tidal flat oyster in Korea. Benefit-cost(B/C) model used to indicate the effects of economic valuation. Using discounting rates(i.e., 4.5%, 6.5% and 8.5%), the model compared revenues and costs that occur at different times from 2012 to 2018. This study also estimated various submodels, which are Benefit Cost Ratio(B/C ratio), Net Present Value(NPV), Internal Ration of Return(IRR), to compare profit of Nursery-Phase production styles and analyzed returns to evaluate the scenarios. Sensitivity analysis were conducted for various scenarios. The results suggest as follows. First, the oyster spat to the shell height of 3~5cm was more profit than the shell height of 1~3cm. Second, all of sensitivity analysis with submodels were economic valuation such that B/C ratio > 1, NPV > 0 and IRR > discounting rate. Third, the payback period was about 3years after installed Nursery-Phase production system.

  • The purpose of this study is to elaborate the logical configuration of livelihood benefits for the institutionalized recipients under the renewed custom-tailored benefit system of National Basic Livelihood Security System(NBLSS) and to present appropriate level of benefits in terms of coherency of the system. In July 2015, the NBLSS was reformed to adopt a relative level of benefit standard for the general recipients according to certain amount of ratio of standard median income. However, the benefit for the institutionalized recipients was still based on the cost of necessities of absolute poverty level. It is at this juncture that this study suggests livelihood benefits for the institutionalized recipients reflect standard median income to comply with the reform of the NBLSS. To this end, this study firstly derives basic living items for the institutionalized recipients based on the literature review and FGI. Secondly, it calculates the reflection ratio of livelihood benefits utilizing Household Trend Survey's consumption data under 40%. Finally, it applies equivalence scale of households to adjust the under-represented scale for large size institutions. To continue the reflection ratio method, it is necessary to review the consumption trends and the stability of the reflection ratio periodically.

  • This paper discusses life expectancy differentials of beneficiaries of national pension old-age benefit and benefit-cost analysis in Korea. These results are useful indicators for the assessment of retirement income security of beneficiaries and old-age benefits. This paper analyzes benefit-cost ratio, internal rate of return and generation transfer amount, using life tables by lifetime incomes. The result of the actuarial analysis for male life expectancy is approximately 21.69 to 24.63 years. The result of the actuarial analysis for female life expectancy is approximately 27.63 to 29.81 years. The result of the actuarial analysis of low income level is that the benefit-cost ratio is lower approximately 2.68 to 4.83%, the internal rate of return lower approximately 0.00 to 0.74%, the generation transfer amount lower approximately 3.00 to 5.74%, than total income level. The result of the actuarial analysis of high income level is that the benefit-cost ratio is higher approximately 2.07 to 4.98%, the internal rate of return higher approximately 0.03 to 1.73%, the generation transfer amount higher approximately 2.53 to 9.68%, than the total income level. The results by income varies due to the effect of income redistribution and life expectancy on the national pension.

  • Purpose : The purpose of the study were to describe outcomes of CHP activities, and to evaluate the economic validity of CHP through a cost-benefit analysis. Method : The sample size was 272. Data were collected using a researcher developed questionnaire from November 1999 to March, 2000. Result : The mean age of CHPs was 39.6 (SD-36). In regard to marital status, 90.8% of the respondents were married. 72% of the CHPs had associate degree. Among CHP activities, providing medical services was 50%, followed by home care visits 20% and health promotion services 20%, preventive services 10%. Total costs per month incurred to CHP activities was \3,053,437($2,442.7). Total benefits per month was \6,711,525($5,369.2). Hence, net benefit was calculated as \3,658,089($2,926). Conclusion : Cost-benefit ratio was 2.20, which provides the evidence of the economic viability of CHP program. The result of cost-benefit analysis, however, would more strongly support the economic value of CHP if intangible benefits of CHP activities such as decreases in pain and suffering and increased quality of life, could be counted.
