Bending moments in the raft of a pile raft system is affected by pile-pile interaction and pile-raft interaction, amongst other factors. Three-Dimensional finite element program has to be used to evaluate these bending moments. Winkler type analysis is easy to use but it however ignores these interactions. This paper proposes a very simplified and novel method for finding bending moments in raft of a piled raft based on Winkler type where raft is supported on bed of springs considering pile-pile and pile-raft interaction entitled as "Winkler model for piled raft (WMPR)" The pile and raft spring stiffness are based on load share between pile and raft and average pile raft settlement proposed by Randolph (1994). To verify the results of WMPR, raft bending moments are compared with those obtained from PLAXIS 3D software. A total of sixty analysis have Performed varying different parameters. It is found that raft bending moments obtained from WMPR closely match with bending moments obtained from PLAXIS 3D. A comparison of bending moments ignoring any interaction in Winkler model is also made with PLAXIS-3D, which results in large difference of bending moments. Finally, bending moment results from eight different methods are compared with WMPR for a case study. The WMPR, though, a simple method yielded comparable raft bending moments with the most accurate analysis.

The wave washer springs are widely used in non-return valves of fluid, especially in air check valves to confirm the rapid shut-off of valve propers. The stiffness of wave washer springs used in suction and exhaust valves of reciprocating air compressor play an important role on efficiency of the compressor. If the stiffness of the spring is too high, the pressure differences necessary to open the valves become high and the volumetric efficiency of cylinder decreasse. If the stiffness of the spring too low, the valve can not be closed rapidly and the inverse flow of air can take place. So, the optimum stiffness of valve spring is very important and it will be very helpful that the stiffness of wave washer springs to be used in suction and exhaust valves can be calculated in design stage of air compressor. In this paper the formula for calculating the spring constant of wave washer spring is introduced using bending and torsion theory of frames. The experiments are also carried out to measure the spring constants of several samples. It is proven that the calculated spring constants of wave washer springs are coincided well with measured values and that the formula presented in this paper for calculating the spring constants of wave washer spring is very useful for design of valves used in reciprocating air compressor.
Tube hydroforming is recently drawing attention of automotive industries due to its seberal advantages over conventional methods. It can produce wide range of products such as subframes, engine cradles, and exhaust manifolds with cheaper production cost by reducing overall number of processes. Tube hydroforming process is divided into prebending process and hydroforming process. Tube bending ins an important factor of the hydroforming process to enable the tube to be placed in the die cavity. This paper presents the theoretical analysis and the simulation results of the tube bending process. With some assumptions, approximate equations are derived to predict the thickness distribution on the cross section and the spring back of the bent tube. Bending simulations are carried out and compared to the analytical and experimental results.

Recent general press brake has many problems in cutting high accurate products in the progress of industry. Previous hand-operated press brake needs many pre-processing works to adjust bending angle and marking-off works to calculate bending length. Also, The hand-operating work makes many geometric errors and has difficulty for variety-mass production. To solve these problems, this paper proposes Computer Numerical Control (CNC) general press brake and development of servo-control system based on database for reduction of geometric errors and pre-processing work time.

Analysis of supported excavation system by Elasto-Plastic Isoparametric Finite Element Method and Elasto-Plastic Beam Method have been conducted for the simulation of stepwise underground excavation. Conventional methods, fixed Supported Beam and Spring Supported Beam method, also have been examined and compared with the results of elasto-plastic beam method and field data. Except unavoidable result of upward ground settlement near the top of retaining wall and relatively high bending moment of wall at each excavation level, satisfactory results have been derived using elasto-plastic isopara metric finite element method. The results from elasto-plastic beam analysis program, developed by the author, are proved to be fit field data in acceptable variance as shown in the paper. Displacement and bending moment, of the wall by conventional methods, both fixed supported beam and spring supported beam, are always underestimated than field data, and attention must be given that the diffence increases with deeper excavation depth and lower horizontal subgrade reaction of the ground.

For the analysis of leveling process by the 3-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element method, a finite element analysis program modeling large deformation of shell has been developed. This program fur analyzing large deformation of sheet during leveling includes spring-back analysis as well as efficient contact treatment between sheet and rolls of leveler. This is verified by the simple leveling experiment with 5 rolls at laboratory. Besides the leveling examples, problems within the category of large strain and rotation, such as 3-dimensional roll-up and gutter occurrence at continuous bending-unbending process are also tested for verification of the program. The residual curvatures of strip predicted by finite element analysis are within 20% error range of the experiment. The formation and direction of anticlastic curvature or gutter during bending-unbending under tension is predicted and this agrees with the experimental results.
Most of the fatigue test were achieved in fully reversed condition that mean stress is zero. But, generally, mean stress can not be zero. This research was achieved the bending fatigue test that changes mean stress to spring steel and was studied relation with the mean stress and the fatigue life. The method to search effect about mean stress was extended S-N graph in two cases. One method was extended S-N graph using modified Miner's rule with considering damage. Another was extended using tendency of S-N graph. The exponential value(${\alpha}$) of mean stress-alternating stress equation is converged between the Goodman's and the Gerber's value even if fatigue life increases.

In this study, a large deflection analysis of a plane frame composed of a thin-walled tube in investigated. When bent, a thin-walled tube is usually controlled by local buckling and subsequent bending collapse of the section. So load resistance reaches the yield level in a thin-walled rectangular tube. This relationship can be divided into three regimes : elastic, post-buckling and crippling. In this paper, this relationship is theoretically presented to be capable of describing nonlinearities and a stiffness matrix is derived by introducing a compound beam-spring element. A numerical analysis uses a constant incremental energy method and the solution is obtained by modifying stiffness matrix at elastic/inelastic stage. This analytical results, load-deflection paths show a good agreement with the test results.

The Timoshenko beam model has been known as the most accurate model for representing beam structures. However, the Timoshenko beam model may give rise to a significant error when it is applied to multi-stepped beam structures. This paper is intended to demonstrate the modeling error of Timoshenko beam based finite element model for multi-stepped beam structures and to suggest a new modeling method to improve the accuracy. A tentative bending spring is introduced into the stepped section to represent the softening effect due to the presence of step. This paper also proposes a finite element modeling method in the light with the tentative bending spring model for the step softening effect. The proposed method rigorously adapts computation results from a commercial finite element code. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through a series of simulation and experiment.
A simple method was suggested to calculate the stress intensity factor for a one-sided patched crack with finite thickness. To consider out-of-plane bending effect resulting from the load-path eccentricity, the spring constant as a function of the through-thickness coordinate z was calculated from the stress distribution in the un-cracked plate, ${\sigma}_{yy}(y=0,\;z)$, and the displacement for the representative single strip Joint, $u_y(y=0,\;z)$. The stress Intensity factors were obtained using Rose's asymptotic solution approach and compared with the finite element results. In short crack region, two results had a little difference. However, two results were almost same in long crack region. On the other hand, the stress intensity factor using plane stress assumption was more similar to finite element result than plane strain condition.
