This study investigated flexural properties of indirect Gum-shade composite resins for esthetic improvement. The material utilized in this study was Crea.lign, Twiny flow and Twiny paste (TP). Ten specimens were fabricated with a dimension of $25{\times}2{\times}2mm$ according to the ISO 4049. After fabrications, specimens were stored in the distilled water for 24 hours at the temperature of $37^{\circ}C$. Three-point bending test was performed in universal testing machine (Instron 3344; Instron, USA) at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until the failure occurred. TP exhibited a higher flexural strength (FS) and flexural modulus (FM) compared to the flowable materials. There were significant differences among the three materials in FS and FM. However, there was no significant difference in work of fracture (WOF) in all tested materials (p>0.05). In Weibull analysis, TP showed the greatest Weibull modulus which means a higher reliability of the materials. Also, Gum-shade composite resins revealed a strong correlation in all flexural properties. There was a positive correlation in FS-FM ($r^2=0.99$) and a negative correlation between FS-WOF and FM-WOF ($r^2>0.97$). Therefore, this confirmed that flexural property was important for mechanical behavior evaluation and useful information. To addition, this improved among mechanical properties correlation of materials as important factor.

A brake lever in a basic railway brake system is an important safety device that delivers braking force from the brake cylinder to the brake pad. The safety guidelines for designing rolling stock only qualitatively describe that the brake lever should have sufficient strength. Each train has a different type of brake lever. One brake lever that was designed with a factor of safety of 1.27 has failed, so the material was changed to increase the strength. Therefore, the stress distribution and weak points of the lever were identified by theoretical analysis. and structural analysis. Different brake lever designs were examined for KTX high-speed trains, which have a split-type structure, as well as for electric locomotives, which use an electric multiple unit (EMU) with a unity-type structure. A fracture test was also done to look at the relationship between the vertical stress and the bending stress during braking. The results were used to find a safety factor to apply to each train and suggest quantitative minimum guidelines. We also looked at changing the unity-type EMU brake lever to the split type under the same conditions and analyzed how much the design change affected the factor of safety.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect according to the fiber type and combination on the reinforcement of heat-polymerized denture base resin. The heat-polymerized resin(Vertex RS, Dentimax, Netherlands) was used in this study. Glass fiber(GL; ER 270FW, Hankuk Fiber Glass, Korea), polyaromatic polyamide fiber(PA; aramid; Kevlar-49, Dupont, U.S.A.) and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber(PE, polyethylene; P.E, Dong Yang Rope, Korea) were used to reinforce the denture base resin specimens. The final size of test specimen was $64mm{\times}10mm{\times}3.3mm$. The specimens of each group were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 50 hours before measurement. The flexural strength and flexural modulus were measured by an universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany) at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min in a three-point bending mode. In this study, all fibers showed reinforcing effects on denture base resin(p<0.05). In terms of flexural strength and flexural modulus, glass fiber 5.3 vol.% showed most effective reinforcing effect on heat polymerized denture base resin. For flexural modulus, PA/GL was the highest in denture base resin specimen for hybrid FRC using two combination (p<0.05). Glass fiber 5.3 vol.% and PA/GL are considered to be applied effectively in reinforcing the heat polymerized denture base resin.
This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge columns. The columns were subjected to a constant axial load and a cyclic horizontal load-inducing reversed bending moment. The variables studied in this research were the volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement (ps=0.96, 1.44 percent) and axial load ratios (P/Po=0.05, 0.1, 0.2) and concrete strengths (35, 60MPa). Test results showed that bridge columns with $44\%$ higher amounts of transverse reinforcement than that required by seismic provisions of ACI 318-02 showed ductile behavior. For bridge columns with axial load ratio(P/Po) less than 0.2, the ratio of $M_{max}\;over\;M_{ACI}$, nominal moment capacity predicted by ACI 318-02 provisions, was consistently greater than 1 with approximately a $20\%$ margin of safety.

PURPOSE. This study aimed to assess and compare the color stability, flexural strength (FS), and surface roughness of occlusal splints fabricated from heat-cured acrylic resin, milled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based resin, and 3D-printed (PMMA) based-resin. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Samples of each type of resin were obtained, and baseline measurements of color and surface roughness were recorded. The specimens were divided into three groups (n = 10) and subjected to distinct aging protocols: thermomechanical cycling (TMC), simulated brushing (SB), and control (without aging). Final assessments of color and surface roughness and three-point bending test (ODM100; Odeme) were conducted, and data were statistically analyzed (2-way ANOVA, Tukey, P <.05). RESULTS. Across all resin types, the most significant increase in surface roughness (Ra) was observed after TMC (P < .05), with the 3D-printed resin exhibiting the lowest Ra (P < .05). After brushing, milled resin displayed the highest Ra (P < .05) and greater color alteration (∆E00) compared to 3D-printed resin. The most substantial ∆E00 was recorded after brushing for all resins, except for heat-cured resin subjected to TMC. Regardless of aging, milled resin exhibited the highest FS (P < .05), except when compared to 3D-printed resin subjected to TMC. Heat-cured resin exposed to TMC demonstrated the lowest FS, different (P < .05) from the control. Under control conditions, milled resin exhibited the highest FS, different (P < .05) from the brushed group. 3D-printed resin subjected to TMC displayed the highest FS (P < .05). CONCLUSION. Among the tested resins, 3D-printed resin demonstrated superior longevity, characterized by minimal surface roughness and color alterations. Aging had a negligible impact on its mechanical properties.
In this paper, the applicability of a 1900mm-deep concrete-filled U-shaped composite beam to composite ordinary moment frames (C-OMFs) was investigated based on existing test results from smaller-sized specimens and supplemental numerical studies since full-scale seismic testing of such a huge sized beam is practically impossible. The key issue was the web local buckling of concrete-filled U section under negative bending. Based on 13 existing test results compiled, the relationship between web slenderness and story drift capacity was obtained. From this relationship, a 1900mm-deep mega beam, fabricated with 25mm-thick plate was expected to experience the web local buckling at 2% story drift and eventually reach a story drift over 3%, thus much exceeding the requirements of C-OMFs. The limiting width to thickness ratio according to the 2010 AISC Specification was shown to be conservative for U section webs of this study. The test-validated supplemental nonlinear finite element analysis was also conducted to further investigate the effects of the horizontal stiffeners (used to tie two webs of a U section) on web local buckling and flexural strength. First, it is shown that the nominal plastic moment under negative bending can be developed without using the horizontal stiffeners, although the presence of the stiffeners can delay the occurrence of web local buckling and restrain its propagation. Considering all these, it is concluded that the 1900mm-deep concrete-filled U-shaped composite beam investigated can be conservatively applied to C-OMFs. Finally, some useful recommendations for the arrangement and design of the horizontal stiffeners are also recommended based on the numerical results.
Recently just as in the automobile industry, shipbuilders also try to reduce material consumption and weight in order to keep operating costs as low as possible and improve the speed of production. Naturally industry is ever searching for welding techniques offering higher power, higher productivity and a better quality. Therefore it is important to have a details research based on the various welding process applied to steel and other materials, and to have the ability both to counsel interested companies and to evaluate the feasibility of implementation of this process. Submerged-arc welding (SAW) process is usually used about 20% of shipbuilding. Similar to gas metal arc welding(GMAW), SAW involves formation of an arc between a continuously-fed bare wire electrode and the work-piece. The process uses a flux to generate protective gases and slag, and to add alloying elements to the weld pool and a shielding gas is not required. Prior to welding, a thin layer of flux powder is placed on the work-piece surface. The arc moves along the joint line and as it does so, excess flux is recycled via a hopper. Remaining fused slag layers can be easily removed after welding. As the arc is completely covered by the flux layer, heat loss is extremely low. This produces a thermal efficiency as high as 60% (compared with 25% for manual metal arc). SAW process offers many advantages compared to conventional CO2 welding process. The main advantages of SAW are higher welding speed, facility of workers, less deformation and better than bead shape & strength of welded joint because there is no visible arc light, welding is spatter-free, fully-mechanized or automatic process, high travel speed, and depth of penetration and chemical composition of the deposited weld metal. However it is difficult to application of thin plate according to high heat input. So this paper has been focused on application of the field according to SAW process for thin plate in ship-structures. For this purpose, It has been decided to optimized welding condition by experiments, relationship between welding parameters and bead shapes, mechanical test such as tensile and bending. Also finite element(FE) based numerical comparison of thermal history and welding residual stress in A-grade 3.2 thickness steel of SAW been made in this study. From the result of this study, It makes substantial saving of time and manufacturing cost and raises the quality of product.

In order to improve the mechanical reliability of next-generation electronic devices including flexible, wearable devices, a high level of mechanical reliability is required at various flexible joints. Organic adhesive materials such as epoxy for bonding existing polymer substrates inevitably have an increase in the thickness of the joint and involve problems of thermodynamic damage due to repeated deformation and high temperature hardening. Therefore, it is required to develop a low-temperature bonding process to minimize the thickness of the joint and prevent thermal damage for flexible bonding. This study developed flexible laser transmission welding (f-LTW) that allows bonding of flexible substrates with flexibility, robustness, and low thermal damage. Carbon nanotube (CNT) is thin-film coated on a flexible substrate to reduce the thickness of the joint, and a local melt bonding process on the surface of a polymer substrate by heating a CNT dispersion beam laser has been developed. The laser process conditions were constructed to minimize the thermal damage of the substrate and the mechanism of forming a CNT junction with the polymer substrate. In addition, lap shear adhesion test, peel test, and repeated bending experiment were conducted to evaluate the strength and flexibility of the flexible bonding joint.

Fiber reinforced composite materials have various advantages in mechanical and chemical aspects. Not only high fatigue and chemical resistance, but also high specific strength and stiffness are attained, and therefore, damping characteristics are beneficial to marine piles. Since piles used for marine structures are subjected to compression and bending as well, detailed research is necessary. Current study examine the mechanical behavior under flexural and/or compressive loads using concrete filled fiber reinforced plastic composite piles, which include large size diameter. 25 pile specimens which have various size of diameters and lengths were fabricated using hand lay-up or filament winding method to see the effect of fabrication method. The inner diameters of test specimens ranged from 165 mm to 600 mm, and the lengths of test specimens ranged from 1,350 mm to 8,000 mm. The strengths of the fill-in concrete were 27 and 40 MPa. Fiber volumes used in circumferential and axial directions are varied in order to see the difference. For some tubes, spiral inner grooves were fabricated to reduce shear deformation between concrete and tube. It was observed that the piles made using filament winding method showed higher flexural stiffness than those made using hand lay-up. The flexural stiffness of piles decreases from the early loading stage, and this phenomenon does not disappear even when the inner spiral grooves were introduced. It means that the relative shear deformation between the concrete and tube wasn't able to be removed.
The effects of pre-treatments, the hot water extraction of wood meal and the addition of chemical ($CaCl_2$) to wood-cement water system on the properties of wood-cement composite such as modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), water sorption ratio and swelling ratio of resulting boards were studied in this experiment. The wood meals through 0.83mm(20 mesh) and retained on 0.42mm(35 mesh) screen were prepared from Pinus densiflora S. at Z. and Larix leptolepsis G. For hot water extraction, 500 grams of wood meal for each species were heated to boiling with 1,500ml of distilled water in 2-liter beaker for 6 hours. Every 2 hours, the wood meals were washed with boiling distil1ed water and reheated to boiling again. After 6 hours boiling, the boiled wood particles were collected by pouring this particles on 200 mesh screen. The collected particles then washed twice with hot distilled water and dried for 24 hours in an oven at $109{\pm}20^{\circ}C$. A mixture of 663.4 grams of cement with 331.7 grams of wood meal based on oven-dry weight were dry-mixed in a plastic vessel. The mixture was kneaded with 497.6ml of distilled water in the ratio of 1.5ml of water to a gram of wood meal. To add calcium chloride to the mixture as an accelerator, $CaCl_2$ 4% solution by weight per volume, was added to pine-or larch-cement board in the ratio of 3% to cement weight. To set wood-cement board, this mixture was clamped at 30cm ${\times}$ 30cm, in thickness of 1.5cm for 3 days at room temperature, declamped and then placed at open condition for 17 days. The target density was 1.0. The four specimens sized to 5cm in width and 28cm in length were used for MOR and MOE test for each treatment. After MOR test, the tested specimens were cut to the size of 5cm ${\times}$ 5cm for water sorption and swelling test. The twenty specimens used to measure the water sorption ratio (soaking 24 hours) and ten of these were used for swelling ratio measurement The results obtained were as follows: 1) Larch was not suitable for wood-cement boards because larch-cement board developed no strength, but pine showed 97.9kg/$cm^2$ by hot water extraction. 2) To increase MOR, hot water extraction was more effective than the addition of $CaCl_2$ in pine and larch because the $CaCl_2$ addition was seemed to speed up the ratio of cement hydration without reacting with the wood substances. 3) The water sorption ratio was lowered by the addition of $CaCl_2$ to wood-cement system because the chemical additive accelerated the rate of cement hydration. 4) In pine-cement board, the swelling ratio from 0.37 to 0.42 percent was observed in length and the swelling ratio from 0.88 to 2.0 percent in thickness. As a rule, the swelling ratio of wood-cement board was very low and the swelling ratio in thickness was higher than in length.
