상하향식 설계법을 이용한 자동차 배기시스템의 설계 (Design of Automobile Exhaust System using a Top-Down Approach Design Methodology)

  • In the modern design technology, a component should be designed to fit into the overall system performance. A design methodology is developed to expedite the mechan- ical design of complex mechanical systems, The relation between the system design and component design is defined by a top-down approach and the results from the system design are utilized in the component design process. As a design example, an automobile exhaust system is selected for the system design and a bellows is chosen for a component design. Design methodology based on the top-down approach consists of five steps; (1) Analysis of service load, (2) Development of a lumped parameter, (3) Completion of the system design, (4) Selection of the component topology, (5) Completion of the component design, A method using a equivalent matrix is developed in order to determine unknown external forces in linear structural analyses. The bellows is also analyzed by the finite element method using a conical frustum shell element. Various experiments are performed to verify the developed theories. The top-down desi- gn approach is demonstrated by a design case using structural and shape optimization technology. Since the method is relatively simple and easy compared to other methods, it can be applied to the general design where system and component designs are involves simultaneously.

  • The mechanical properties of bellows, such as the extensibility and the strength can be changed depending on the shape. For the shipbuilding material, it is favorable that the fatigue lift is long due to the elastic property and the reduction of thermal stress in piping system. Nowadays, the domestic production and design of bellows are based on the E.J.M.A Code. Therefore, the design standard is in need because of much errors and lack of detailed analysis. In this study, it is attempted to find out the optimal shape of U-type ship's bellows that is applied to design of experiment using the finite element method. The effective factors, mountain height, length, thickness, and number of mountains and the length of joint are considered and the proper values are chosen for the simulation. The number of mountains are increased, the volume increases above the standard volume and the stress obviously increases. In addition, the effect of the thickness of bellows on the stress is very large. Both of the volume and stress are decreasing at a certain lower value region.

  • It is attempted to find out the optimal shape of U-type bellows using the finite element analysis. The design factors, mountain height, length, thickness, and the number of convolutions are considered and the proper values are chosen fur the simulation. The results show that as the number of convolutions reduces, the volume decreases while the stress increases. However, as the number of convolutions increases, the volume increases above the standard volume and the stress obviously increases. In addition, the effect of the thickness of bellows on the stress is very large. Both of the mass and stress are decreasing at a certain lower value region. Also, we investigated shape optimization with considering maximum stress distribution tendency.

  • An air spring which is a part of the railroad vehicle suspension system is used to reduce and absorb the vibration and the noise. Main components of the air spring are a cord reinforced rubber bellows, a upper plate, a lower plate and a stopper rubber spring. The characteristics of the air spring which are the load capacity, the vertical and the horizontal stiffness are determined by the configuration of the rubber bellows, the angle of cord, and the mechanical properties of cord. Computer simulations using a commercial finite element analysis codes are executed to predict and evaluate the load capacity and the stiffness. The appropriate shape and cord angle of the air spring are selected to meet the required specifications of the air spring. Several samples of the air spring are manufactured and experimentally evaluated. It is shown that the results by computer simulation arc in close agreement with the test results.

  • 갱웨이 벨로우즈는 관절형 고속철도차량 객차 끝단부 사이에 다양한 변위차를 고려하여 갱웨이 프레임에 장착된 이중 주름구조 네오프렌 고무부품이다. 실제 운행중의 벨로우즈의 파손은 터널 통과시 기밀 파손으로 인한 이명현상 발생과 함께 소음 증가로 승객의 승차감에 심각한 영향을 미친다. 본 연구에서는 고속철도차량 갱웨이 벨로우즈의 안전성 연구일환으로서, 차량주행시 차량 끝단부의 3축 회전변위(롤링, 요잉, 피칭변위차)를 고려한 갱웨이 벨로우즈의 비선형 해석을 수행하였다. 본 고무의 비선형 재료 특성은 단축인장 및 등2축 인장시험을 수행하여 구하였다. 또한, 비선형 해석결과로부터 회전변위 및 마찰계수의 영향을 평가하였다.

  • 배기계는 엔진 및 현가계와 함께 차량의 주요 가진원 중의 하나이다. 배기계는 엔진과 직접적으로 연결된 시스템으로서 차체와의 연결 마운트를 통하여 엔진 구동 시의 진동을 차체로 전달한다. 따라서 배기계로부터 전달되는 진동을 저감하기 위해서는 배기계 진동특성을 예측해야 하고, 배기계의 주요부품인 벨로우즈의 정확한 특성을 묘사해야 한다. 그러나 벨로우즈는 복잡한 형상으로 인하여 특성을 예측하는 데에 어려움이 있었다. 설계 단계에서 벨로우즈에 대한 등가 변환 이론이 적용되었지만, 구간에 따라 주름의 크기가 달라지는 차량용 벨로우즈에 적용하기에는 부족함이 있다. 본 연구에서는 유한요소 해석기법을 이용하여 차량용 벨로우즈의 모델링 기법을 제시하고, 그 정확성을 실험결과와 비교하여 입증하였다.

  • Nuclear power generation is very dangerous in occasion that skirt of structure by earthquake although it is high effective generation that can make a lot of energies with few raw material. when design, it must consider a lot of problems caused by an earthquake. The seismic analysis of the structure has been great concern in the engineering society with an effort to reduce the severe damages from an earthquake. So the earthquake resistant design is one of the crucial design procedures of a gate valve used in nuclear power generation. The gate valve which has the contact area between stem and bellows. Because of the contact area. The gate valve should be given high stress and frictional wear. In this thesis, Considering the gate valve which has some contact distance between stem and bellows. The gate valve which has some contact distance is analyzed by a commercial FEM code of Ansys and Then compared to the gate valve behavior which doesn't have contact distance.

  • A finite element code is developed for 3-D self-contact problems, using continuum elements with a SRI(Selective Reduced Integration) scheme to prevent locking phenomenon by the incompressibility of rubber. Contact treatment is carried out in two ways : using the displacement constraints in case of rigid contact ; and imposing the same contact forces on two contact boundaries in case of self-contact. The finite element code developed is applied to the deformation analysis of C.V.joint boots which maintain lubrication conditions and protect the C.V.joint assembly from impact and dust. The boot accompanies large rotation depending on the rotation of the wheel axis and leading to the self-contact phenomena of the boot bellows. Since this contact phenomenon causes wear of the product and has great influence on the endurance life of the product, it is indispensable to carry out stress analysis of the rubber boots. In case of self-contact, various methods for determining contact forces have been suggested with an appropriate contact formulation. Especially, the types of penetration in self-contact are modularized to accelerate conputation with a contact algorithm.
