  • In this thesis, the study on controlling of cracks of concrete box culvert in early ages is presented. The optimum construction method and economical analysis were proposed also through the experiment of the material and field test. As a result of the experiment of the material, using fly ash, CSA expansive agent and BELITE cement(type IV) showed good result in the control of cracks induced by heat of hydration and shrinkage. As a result of construction test analysis, the maintenance time of form system did not show a big difference in controlling of cracks. Control of distribution of reinforcement, spacing of expansion joint and use of BELITE cement showed big differences in the control of cracks in early ages. As a result of economical analysis, control of construction variables before construction can make it possible to reduce the repair expense.

  • Box-culvert is very important structure used almost every road construction. However this is treated very simple structure in design and construction. So many crack such as nonstructural crack has been occurred. This crack is very harmful on durability of concrete. In this study, thermal crack, one of the nonstructural crack, of box-culvert controled by using rapid-strength belite cement concrete. In this process, not only heat of hydration and thermal stress but also material mechanics properties and characteristics of durability were tested. and same model box-culvert using OPC concrete is constructed in same condition for comparison.

  • Recently, it has been increased to construct massive concrete structures, like under-ground structure, offshore structure etc., ie. concrete construction have become larger and higher and are demanding lower heat concrete to prevent thermal cracking. It has been progressed to replace cements with fly-ash and slag to lower heat of hydration, but it is hard to control quality of the mineral admixtures in stage of adjusting of real construction. Application of low heat portland(Belite Rich) cement for the mass concrete is the best solution to satisfied those requirements. Here are explained the basic properties of fresh concrete as well as hardened concrete of using low heat portland cement(LHPC). Also, we compare the results of adiabatic temperature rise test using LHPC and OPC.

  • As construction technology advances, most of concrete structures are becoming larger and taller. Therefore, high strength and high quality concrete is necessary for them. Nowadays, the proposal of using belite rich cement is investigated to satisfy high flowing, low heat, and high strength. In this study, the height difference, the falling time and the maximum temperature of concrete using BRC were lower than that of concrete using OPC. Furthermore the compressive strength of concrete using BRC with and without compacting was not different. And the compressive strength of core specimens was higher than that of specimens in water curing. Compared to OPC, there was a good relationship between the curing temperature and the development of strength in BRC.

Nowadays, the proposal of using type IV(belite cement) is investigated to satisfy high flowing, low heat, and ho호 strength. In this study, the flow value and compressive strength of mortar were investigated according to usage of AE high range water reducer. And the slump flow value, falling time and heigth difference of concrete with beilte cement and ordinary cement were examined depending on water cement ratio, sand ratio and unit water weigth, and compressive strength to checked depending on age.

  • Raw mateials such as limestone quartzite bauxite and anhydrite were used in the production of mod-ified beloite cement. Two kinds of clinker were synthesized with relatively higher content of $C_2S$ than that of $C_4A_3{\={S}}$ Concerning $C_2S$ the main mineral component borax ($Na_2O\;2B_2O_3\;10H_2O$) was added to stimu-late hydraulic reactivity and this would be possible by stabilizing ${\alpha}'-C_2S$ at room temperature. We had in-tended to compare burning and hydraulic characteristics of clinkers with one another by varying the amount of borax addition and to study the appropriate amount of anhydrite addition needed in the strengthening of cement during hydration. It was concluded that the effective amount of borax addition ne-eded for stabilization of ${\alpha}'-C_2S$ was 5 wt% in 60wt% $C_2S$ inclusive clinker and adding anhydrite in the ra-tio of 1.3 of $SO_3/Al_3O_3$ was appropriate in the production of cement by this clinker. Only ettringite was seen to contribute to the strength without additives but C-S-H was found to form along with ettringite with the addition of borax in the initial stage of hydration.

  • In this study, cement clinker using a pure sample and clinker using 7% coal ash were sintered at a temperature of 1050~1500℃. Changes in the content of cement minerals and changes in microstructure by sintering temperature were reviewed. The application of coal ash as a raw material for cement clinker was applicable as a source of Al2O3 and SiO2. At a sintering temperature of 1350℃ or higher, the cement clinker applied with coal ash showed the same level of mineral content as compared to the cement clinker applied with pure raw material. The microstructure also showed a similar state, confirming that coal ash can be used as a raw material for cement. In XRD-Reitveld analysis, a maximum amount of Belite was produced at 1250℃. The conversion from Belite to Alite was observed from 1350℃. From 1350℃, the interstitial phase and the mineral phase presumed to be alite were distinguished. It was clearly distinguished from 1400℃. As the sintering temperature increased, the shape and boundary of the crystal phase became clear, and the size of the crystal phase was also increased.

  • The mixtures which are in the chemical composition of Portland cement were prepared from oyster shell, casting dust and BOF slag. The clinkerbility and the behaviour of formation of clinker minora]s were studied using the mixtures mainly by the mineral and microstructural observation. By virtue of the characteristics of starting raw materials, the clinkering temperature was lower as much as 100$^{\circ}C$ than that of a mixture prepared from normal raw materials. Uncombined calcium oxide was vanished entirely below 1350$^{\circ}C$. and the formation of major cement minerals such as alite and belite could be nearly accomplished without too much liquid phase within 1400$^{\circ}C$.

  • Raw mix of molten clinker was fabricated using blast furnace slag as starting material. Raw mix was melted at 1620$^{\circ}C$ for molten clinker fabrication. It was found that molten clinker contained alite and belite equivalent to OPC clinker mineral by optical microscope and SEM. The size of alite was 10~50 ${\mu}m$ and that of belite was 20~80 ${\mu}m$. This result thought to be attributed low $Al_2O_3$ content and cooling condition. Interstitial phase increased with blast furnace slag content and gehlenite was formed by the condition of LSF and SM. So raw mix with 27~41% blast furnace slag could be converted into cement clinker by appropriate choice of melting andcooling methods in this study.
