  • The purpose of this research is to develop more effective and systematic courage-related education in the early childhood education field. Through the previous research and literature review, the concept of courage was redefined and the type of courage was derived. After choosing 25 pictures books which relate to courage, we analyzed using the type of courage and their features. The results were as follows. First, courage is an act of trying voluntarily and continuously according to established clear goals based on personal beliefs in order to overcome inner and external difficulties. Second, we divided the courage into five types - Physical Courage, Challenge Courage, Belief Courage, Social Courage, Creative Courage- and presented each characteristic. Finally, by analyzing 25 picture books on the theme of courage according to these types and characteristics, it was confirmed that these picture books can be an important basis for courage-related education and development of a courage scale.

  • This study examined young children's beliefs about trait stability based on trait type and valence. Participants included 120 children (40 three-year-olds, 40 four-year-olds, and 40 five-year olds) recruited from 3 day-care-centers and 1 kindergarten in Seoul and Kyung-Ki province. Results revealed that young children's understanding of traits differed based on trait type and valence. Children demonstrated a strong belief that social-intention traits are more stable and harder to change when compared to internal-state traits. Young children's beliefs on trait stability were also strongly influenced by trait valence. They believed that negative traits are more likely to change for the better while positive traits have greater stability and are less likely to change over time.

  • This study was carried out to find the influencing factors on the acceptance of vaccination of viral hepatitis type B. Two groups of students, 362 undergraduates of Korea University were surveyed for research. The compliant group was 156 students who were inoculated with viral hepatitis type B shot more than one time. The non-compliant group was 206 students who were not inoculated. The measures used for this study were Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scales and the one developed by the researcher on the basis of literature review about Health Belief Model. The results of this stuby were as follows. The awareness on health of the compliant group was higher than that of the non-compliant group(t=0.39, P<0.05), And perceived barrier of the compliant group was lower than that of the non-compliant group(t=0.35, P<0.05). But the knowledge about the viral hepatitis type B of the compliant group was lower than that of the non-compliant group(t=2.49, P<0.05). There were no differences between two groups in the perceived susceptibility of the hepatitis and the perceived benifit of the hepatitis vaccination. There was no difference between two groups in terms of the Inner Health Locus of Control (HLOC) and Chance HLOC. On the other hand Powerful-Others HLOC of the compliant group was higher than that of the non-compliant group(t=3.67, P<0.05). 'Parent's advice' was found to be the major answer to the motive of being vaccinated in the compliant group. This explains that the most influencial factor in determining one's health behavior is the parent's opinion. Answers to the question of the reason of not being vaccinated were, 'did not want to bother' and 'did not care yet' in order. As a whole, except for the awareness on health and the perceived barrier of the hepatitis vaccination, this study result shows disagreement with the past investigations on the inter-relationship between one's health belief or Health Locus of Control and the health behavior. The author of this study believes this was due to the limitation in the survey group's particular homogenity.

  • In this study, I tried to find out the diffusion and the receptive process of new culture with examining the costume of Ksitigrbha Bodhisattva Buddist drawings, which were drawn by our people in the Koryo dynasty. I classified each part of the costume of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas and found out overall characteristics and analyzed their meaning. The results are as follows ; First, because there were several ‘du-gun’ of peculiar types, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas were supposed to have ‘du-gun’ before Buddhism was diffused throughout China through the West. The type of ‘du-gun’ was deveoloed more and more through the West and appeared as the type of ‘du-gun’ of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas in ‘Ji-Jang Do’ in the Koryo dynasty. And the pecuilar type of du-gun was supposed to have been under the influence of the costume of Taoism in those days. Second, I think that the Buddhist defication of the costume in Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas was a phenomenon in the process that belief in Ksitigarbha was united with popular belief and widely diffused and became to have its important meaning of its own. Third, the feminine tendency of the costume in Ksitigarbha meaning of the early goddess remained partly in the costume even though Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was god in India. Fourth, Several found shape designs are supposed to be affected by the diplomatic relationship with the West. As mentioned above the costume ‘Ji-Jang Do’ in the Koryo dynasty was affected by china\`s, world-wide in that ga-sa was Gandira style based on Hellenistic art. Therefore, the reception if new culture was selective on the basis of the country\`s need and this new culture was changed into something peculiar to affect other countries simultaneously with reception.

  • Objectives : A survey was conducted to investigate oral health belief and education awareness of oral health of workers in the workplace and to obtain the basic data necessary to promote their oral health and design an oral health education program. Methods : This study conducted a self-administered survey. Results : The following conclusion was made. For oral health beliefs based on the type of work that the workers did, workers in production and technical services had more benefits than those in other fields(security, guard, etc.), and workers on night duty had more oral health hygiene problems than that of regular day-time workers. The longer the period of service was, the more sensitive and serious the workers were and the less beneficial the work was; workers working for eight hours or less had higher levels of importance than those working for ten hours. They were well aware of the need for oral health education but were less aware of the need for an oral health room. Conclusions : It is necessary to emphasize oral health beliefs when developing an oral health education program that promotes oral health for workers in the workplace. If an oral health education program attempts to reflect the concerns of workers in the workplace and provides preferred contents and methods on oral health education, the program is expected to promote the active and positive participation of the workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate belief and attitudes on breastfeeding of physicians and nurses. A questionnaire was mailed to obstetricians, pediatricians and nurses at the department of pediatrics or obstetrics of university hospital and private hospital in Seoul and Choong-Chung Province) in South Korea. Total numbers of study subjects were 346 (pediatrician 67, obstetrician 41, nurse 238). The results were as follows : 1. The main reasons not to educate breast feeding in the hospitals were a lack of interest of the health professionals, a lack of educators and education programs. 2. The respondents thought that the best ways for lactating mother to get advices about breastfeeding during the first month were to give a call to health professionals in the hospitals where she had been delivered, or call to relatives or friends. 3. Breastfeeding attitudes of physicians and nurses did not differ according to gender, job, or type of the hospitals they work. 4. Breastfeeding attitudes were related with personal breastfeeding experience, breastfeeding knowledge, extracurricular education experience, encouragement experience. Physicians and nurses should give appropriate advices and support to lactating mothers to increase breastfeeding rate. They were, however, ill-prepared to counsel breastfeeding mothers. Therefore, it is necessary to instruct breastfeeding in the curriculum of the medical and nursing schools, and incorporate clinically based breastfeeding training into continuing education workshops. Improved breastfeeding education is a critical step in ensuring that health professionals are adequately prepared for this important role.

  • Purpose Financial technology, also known as FinTech, is conceptually defined as a new type of financial service which is combined with information technology and other traditional financial services like payments, investments, financing, insurance, asset management and so on. Most of the studies on FinTech services have been conducted from the viewpoint of technical issues or legal and institutional studies, and few studies are conducted from the health belief perspectives and security behavior approaches. In this regard, this study suggest an extended information protection behavior model. Design/Methodology/Approach The Health Belief Model (HBM), the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), and the Technology Threat Avoidance Theory (TTAT) were employed to identify constructs relevant to information protection behavior of FinTech services. A new extended information protection behavior model in which the influence factors of information protection behavior (i.e., perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy, subjective norms) affect perceived threats and perceived responsiveness positively, leading to information protection behavior of FinTech users eventually. This study developed an extended information protection behavior model to explain the protection behavior intention in FinTech users and collected 272 survey responses from the mobile users who had experiences with such mobile payments and FinTech services. Findings The finding of this study suggests that the influence factors of information protection behavior affect perceived threats and perceived responsiveness positively, and information protection behavior of FinTech users as well.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the degree of health promotion behavior among stomach cancer patients and its relevant factors, such as belief, family support, and self-esteem etc. To investigate factors affecting health promotion behavior among stomach cancer patients, a survey was conducted through personal interviews with 153 stomach cancer patients who came to two hospitals in Daejeon from June to July, 2008. Questions were about respondents' general characteristics, properties related to stomach cancer, health belief & family support for the disease, and self-esteem. According to the results of multi-variate regression analysis, factors affecting health promotion behavior included age, treatment type, benefit, barrier, family support, and self-esteem which explained 66.6%. Public health and medical interventions are necessary to improve health promotion behavior among stomach cancer patients by improving benefit, family support, and self-esteem and reducing barrier.

  • This study employed a child-centered approach in the examination of patterns of preschooler's learning behaviors. A hierarchical cluster analysis was employed in order to discern a meaningful typology of such behavior. The subjects consisted of 232 children (117 boys, 106 girls) and their mothers from 6 kindergartens and 6 day care centers. The results of this study were as follows. The cluster analysis yielded five types of learning behaviors; the competent type, the average type, the low attention/persistence type, the low motivation -attitude type, and the deficient type. The most consistent level differences among these types appeared to lie in distinctions among the average Attention/Persistence scores. The composition of the cluster types, including both the age and gender of the children, was ascertained. Our results indicated that preschool learning behavior types could be seen to differentially relate to children's self-regulation, cognitive styles, problem behaviors, and the level of maternal involvement. It was revealed that a child's characteristics was more important than maternal involvement and beliefs. As there were more girls and older children in the learning type, this type was seen to be more competent.

For empirical analysis, the data for this study were collected from 400 full-time housewives with preschool child living in Seoul. The statistical methods adopted fur data analysis are cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and discriminant analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows : First, four housewives' types can be categorized by the level of those 3 dimensions. The name fur the types was given as 'sticking to one's belief type', 'taking importance to early stimulation type' 'conforming to and imitating others type', and 'believing blindly in education commodity type'. Second, the result of discriminant analysis shows that 'housewives' education level and their education-related values' element was the most crucial in classifying the housewives, and 'considering child's characteristics and educational home environment' element was the next. The results of this study suggest several implications fur the education of parents with preschool child. Parents' education programs differentiated by the objects and the problems should be developed : which are suitable for each housewives' type.
