Online game business has emerged as the most lucrative entertainment Industry, with over 10 million players in South Korea. The popularity of online games can be attributed to the availability of broadband network and the presence of numerous PC Bangs and around the country, which have pushed online games Into the main-stream entertainment culture. The age distribution of online game players is expanding and a variety of new games are under development to target certain age groups. While the interactive entertainment market continues to expand, with many new online game publishers entering the market, relatively little is known about which factors influence online game players' behavioral intentions to play continuously in this area. It appears that in this extremely attractive and growing services segment, academics, as well as practitioners, would benefit from in vestigating the relationships among the players' loyalty, interactivity, the sense of presence and the impacts of several other key game-related constructs. Several types of interaction in on-line games and their relationship with the flow construct are investigated, and the resulting conceptual model is proposed. Based on data collected from online questionnaire survey, the validity of the simultaneous equation model has been tested and interesting conclusions have been developed concerning the relationships between the players' loyalty to the sense of presence, flow, satisfaction and interactions. Other interesting results concerning game development strategy are also provided.
Due to the rapid growth of social networking community (SNC), research into SNC user's behavior has recently emerged as an important issue in information systems. An individual makes a decision whether or not to continually use his or her own SNC and to purchase digital items to decorate it. Most previous research has focused on a user's continuance intention and has ignored the importance of purchase intention. This study develops and empirically tests an integrated model designed to predict a user's two types of behavioral intention:continuance intention and purchase intention based on the expectation-confirmation model (ECM) and a dual model of relationship maintenance mechanism. The results indicate that perceived usefulness, satisfaction, personalization, and switching cost have important influences on the formation of SNC continuance intention. The results also show that perceived usefulness and satisfaction does not have any significant impacts on purchase intention, while personalization, learning, attractiveness of alternatives, and continuance intention significantly affect it.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the moderating roles of the competitor's pricing strategy and the degree of consumer's risk-aversion on perceived risk and perceived benefit in responding to price increases and package downsizing. Based on Prospect Theory, several prior researches find that consumers perceive increased price as more loss than package downsizing and perceive package downsizing as more benefit than increased price. We extend these behavioral economics approach using the reference effect of competitor's pricing strategy. We focus on consumer heterogeneity on risk-aversion, measure the degree of consumer's risk-aversion, and divide the consumers into two groups of high levels of risk-aversion vs. low levels of risk-aversion. We find that the firm's pricing strategies of both price increases and package downsizing do not significantly influence the perceived benefit for relatively low risk-aversion consumers. We find that when the firm reduce the package size, relatively high risk-aversion consumers perceived more benefit and had higher purchase intention compared to price increases. We also find that the competitor's pricing strategies do not significantly influence the consumer's response for relatively low risk-aversion consumers. For relatively high risk-aversion consumers, they perceived more loss when the firm has different pricing strategy from the competitor's.
The goal of the study is to describe blockchain technology as it relates to enhancing supply chains in the retail sector in order to achieve sustainability. This study offers a critical analysis of the possible applications of blockchain technology and smart contracts to supply chain management. This paper explains how Blockchain technology may be used by customers and merchants in a variety of retail business operations to great advantage. By adopting a modified version of the UTUAT model, this study validates the possibility of using blockchain for supply chain management in the retail industry. The study found a significant and positive correlation between behavioral intention and acceptance toward employing block networks in supply chain management in the retail business. The behavior intention (BI) to adopt blockchain technology is significantly influenced by performance expectations, effect expectations, subjective standards, and enabling variables. The performance and effort expectations have a considerable impact on the BI to adopt blockchain in supply chain management.
Sustainable Information Technology (IT) and Sustainable Information Systems (IS) were synonymous with Green IT-IS until recently the studies focused on sustainable IT-IS encompassing the interaction between economy, society, and environment. Here, is an attempt to understand the development in the emerging field of Sustainable IT-IS from Green IT-Green IS. The studies in the area of Sustainable IT-IS spare address diverse topics. This study attempts to provide a framework for the field of research and indicate potential research directions in the sustainable IT-IS domain. A detailed comparative analysis approach of 296 papers has been used to understand the progress of management research in Sustainable IT-IS vis-à-vis Green IT-IS. The review analyses the collated literature to understand the trends across the study period, development across various economies/ geographies, methodological approaches used, behavioral and theoretical aspects investigated, and finally, develop a taxonomy based on identified theses in the field of study. The study highlights that developed countries focus more on studies on the Sustainable IT-IS domain compared to other economies. It was evident that sustainable IS has received very limited focus. The study identifies 7 major themes and 29 subthemes forming the area of study during the evolution of Sustainable IT-IS through Green IT-IS. Subsequently, taxonomy was proposed to identify future research initiatives for investigation. The review comparing the evolution of research on managerial issues on Sustainable IT-IS vis-à-vis Green IT-IS is provided perhaps for the first time. The study provides an avenue for future research in the upcoming domain of Sustainable IT-IS.
Computing Technology implementation suggests a dramatic change in work or organizational environment. The study aims to examine how IT adoption affected employees' attitudes toward jobs and behaviors toward customers in restaurant operations. The employee attitudinal variables examined in the study included employees' perceptions on internal work motivation, general job satisfaction, and pride in organization, while positive employee behaviors were used to examine employees' behavioral changes induced by IT implementation. The study sampled employees of full-service and mid-scale restaurants. To test the relationships among the employees of full-service and variables proposed in the research model changed by the IT implementation, six hypotheses were proposed. This study is meaningful in making a progress in finding a support for a link between task perceptions and attitudes in organizational environment change. The practical contribution of this research lies in for restaurant owners or managers to obtain a better perspective of the technology adoption and implementation decisions.
Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) is an unwanted adverse event in any operation. It leads to functional limitations and psychological trauma for patients, and leaves the operative team with feelings of failure and humiliation. Therefore, it is crucial that preventive strategies for CPSP are considered in high-risk operations. Various techniques have been implemented to reduce the risk with variable success. Identifying the risk factors for each patient and applying a timely preventive strategy may help patients avoid the distress of chronic pain. The preventive strategies include modification of the surgical technique, good pain control throughout the perioperative period, and preoperative psychological intervention focusing on the psychosocial and cognitive risk factors. Appropriate management of CPSP patients is also necessary to reduce their suffering. CPSP usually has a neuropathic pain component; therefore, the current recommendations are based on data on chronic neuropathic pain. Hence, voltage-dependent calcium channel antagonists, antidepressants, topical lidocaine and topical capsaicin are the main pharmacological treatments. Paracetamol, NSAIDs and weak opioids can be used according to symptom severity, but strong opioids should be used with great caution and are not recommended. Other drugs that may be helpful are ketamine, clonidine, and intravenous lidocaine infusion. For patients with failed pharmacological treatment, consideration should be given to pain interventions; examples include transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, botulinum toxin injections, pulsed radiofrequency, nerve blocks, nerve ablation, neuromodulation and surgical management. Physical therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and lifestyle modifications are also useful for relieving the pain and distress experienced by CPSP patients.
Currently, the Ministry of Employment and Labor is strengthening monitor programs in regards to occupational industrial safety and health act compliance in business operations. However, industrial accidents occur persistently. Therefore, the study strives to diagnose and understand the issues in its educational stature, targeting managing supervisors in large scale shipbuilding industry whose completed the regular safety and health act sessions. This research considered a total of 3,252 employees whose completed theory-based cluster sessions for three months since February, 2016. The group is divided into two categories; 551 participants whose completed 8 hours of training and 2,701 participants whose completed 4 hours of training. Technical statistics were used to measure the knowledge of safety and health, educational environment, curriculum and educational effects on managing supervisors. A t-test was used to analyze the difference between the training hours. The result indicated that the target participants' knowledge on safety and health before the session was 50.24 points average (100 point scale), showing low standards in general. In depth analysis indicated that both 8 hours and 4 hours groups scored lowest in educational methods and communications between the lecturer and participants factors within the educational curriculum category. Meanwhile, transition in knowledge acquirement, work attitude, and work behaviors scored the highest in the analysis, showing a high satisfaction factors in educational effects. Therefore, the improvement in educational time and period can increase the efficacy of the educational programs. Also, theory-based cluster programs based on lectures suggests positive influence in knowledge acquirement and behavioral transitions.
Branching and merging have been being the outstanding methods for SCM in terms of supporting parallel developments. Since well-known commercial merging tools based on textual merging have not detecting semantics conflicts, they can cause semantic errors in the result of merging. Although a lot of researches for detecting semantic conflict and merging up to recently, these researches have been doing individually. Therefore, it is necessary for a research detecting semantic conflict on textual merging and solving it. In this paper, we propose a new method for merging which preserve semantics on textual merging. The method merging two revisions from a source program is as follows : 1) defining changing operations, which include Update, Delete, and Insert operation, per line on two revisions corresponding to the line in source program, 2) detecting textual conflicts and semantic conflict in terms of executional behaviors, 3) solving these conflicts before merging. So, the proposed method can be regarded as a hybrid method that combines a method of textual merging and a behavioral semantic merging.
Franchising is one of the fastest growing types of business. It is already popular and well-known in the U.S., and has been growing in many other countries including Korea. Furthermore, many Korean franchising companies have expanded their business overseas actively. According to the data by the Ministry of Industry and Resource, 82 companies out of a sample of 500 franchising companies are already operating in many foreign countries and 48% of them have started their foreign business since 2006. This clearly indicates the fast growing current trend of foreign operation by Korean franchising companies. In spite of the fast growing trend of foreign expansion in the industry, academic research on internationalization of franchising companies is extremely difficult to find. Accordingly, academic research on the issue is necessary and urgent in Korea. Among the various research questions on internationalization of franchising business, this study intends to investigate the difference in organizational factors between the franchising companies doing foreign operation and those doing business only domestically. More specifically, this research has the following purposes. First, considering the lack of theoretical basis of previous studies, resource-based theory and agency theory are employed as the theoretical bases. Second, this study explains the difference in internationalization based on organizational factors such as company size, history and growth rate. Third, the five hypotheses regarding the difference in organizational factors are presented and tested empirically, which is the first attempt in the area of this topic. Finally, the study attempts to clarify the conflicting implications among theories regarding some organizational factos such as growth rate. As the theoretical background, resource-based theory and agency theory are discussed. According to resource-based theory, a firm can grow continuously when it has competence and resource, and also the ability to develop them. The competence and resource can include capital, human resource, management skill, market information, ability to manage risk, etc. Meanwhile, agency theory views the relationship between franchisor and franchisee as an agency relationship. In agency theory, bonding capability and monitoring capability are the two key factors which promote internationalization of franchising companies. Based on the two theories, a conceptual model is designed. The model consists of two groups of variables. One is organizational factors including size, history, growth rate, price bonding and geographic dispersion. The other is whether a franchising company is operating overseas or not. We developed the following five research hypotheses basically describing the relationship between organizational factors and internationalization of franchising companies. H1: The size of franchising companies operating overseas is larger than that of franchising companies operating domestically. H2: The history of franchising companies operating overseas is longer than that of franchising companies operating domestically. H3: The growth rate of franchising companies operating overseas is higher than that of franchising companies operating domestically. H4: The price bonding of franchising companies operating overseas is higher than that of franchising companies operating domestically. H5: The geographic dispersion of franchising companies operating overseas is wider than that of franchising companies operating domestically. Data for the analyses are obtained from 2005 Korea Franchise Survey data co-generated by Ministry of Industry and Resource, GS1 Korea, and Korea Franchise Association. Out of 2,804 population companies, 2,489 companies are excluded for various reasons and 315 companies are selected as the final sample. Prior to hypotheses tests, validity and reliability of the measures of size, history, growth rate and price bonding are examined for further analyses. Geographic dispersion is not validated since it is measured using nominal data. A series of independent sample T-tests is used to find out whether there exists any significant difference between the companies internationalized and those operating only domestically for each organizational factor. Among the five factors, size and geographic dispersion show significant difference, growth rate and price bonding do not reveal any difference and, finally, history factor shows conflicting results in the difference depending on how to measure it.
shows the summary statistics for hypotheses testing. In conclusion, the results show that the size and history, which are the key variables in resource-based theory, have a significant relationship with internationalization and that geographic area, which belongs to agency theory, also has a strong relationship with internationalization. The results support the findings of extant research and, therefore, prove the usefulness of resource-based theory and agency theory in explaining internationalization of franchising companies. However, growth rate and price-bonding do not show a clear difference between the two types of companies. Accordingly, these two factors need further attention in the future research. Although this study shows meaningful findings theoretically and practically, it has several limitations. First, only organizational factors are considered even if there are various environmental factors influencing franchising firm's internationalization. Second, only being internationalized or not is considered. That is, modes of entry and the size of foreign operations are not included in the study. Third, internationalization strategy is often determined based on the desire for business expansion and higher profitability and egoistical reasons of the CEOs. However, this type of factors belonging to behavioral science is not discussed in the study. Finally, organizational ecology perspective is usefully applicable in explaining the survival and performance of internationally operating companies. Accordingly, research propositions based on this perspective need to be developed and tested.
