The growth in smartphone service has given rise to an increase in frequency and importance of authentication. Existing smartphone authentication mechanisms such as passwords, pattern lock and fingerprint recognition require a high level of awareness and authenticate users temporarily with a point-of-entry techniques. To overcome these disadvantages, there have been active researches in behavior-based authentication. However, previous studies focused on enhancing the accuracy of the authentication. Since authentication is directly used by people, it is necessary to reflect actual users' perception. This paper proposes user perception on behavior-based authentication with feature analysis. We conduct user survey to empirically understand user perception regarding behavioral authentication with selected authentication features. Then, we analyze acceptance of the behavioral authentication to provide continuous authentication with minimal awareness while using the device.

Behavior-based authentication technology, which is currently being researched a lot, requires a long extraction of a lot of data to increase the recognition rate of authentication compared to other authentication technologies. This paper uses the touch sensor and the gyroscope embedded in the smartphone in the Android environment to measure five times to the user to use only the minimum data that is essential among the behavior feature data used in the behavior-based authentication study. By requesting, a total of six behavior feature data were collected by touching the five touch screen, and the mean value was calculated from the changes in data during the next touch measurement to measure the cosine similarity between the value and the measured value. After generating the allowable range of cosine similarity by performing, we propose a user behavior based authentication method that compares the cosine similarity value of the authentication attempt data. Through this paper, we succeeded in demonstrating high performance from the first EER of 37.6% to the final EER of 1.9% by adjusting the threshold applied to the cosine similarity authentication range even in a small number of feature data and experimenter environments.
User authentication is the first step to network security. There are lots of authentication types, and more than one authentication method works together for user's authentication in the network. Except for biometric authentication, most authentication methods can be copied, or someone else can adopt and abuse someone else's credential method. Thus, more than one authentication method must be used for user authentication. However, more credential makes system degrade and inefficient as they log on the system. Therefore, without tradeoff performance with efficiency, this research proposed user's behavior based authentication for secure communication, and it will improve to establish a secure and efficient communication.

Identity and access management in cloud computing is one of the leading significant issues that require various security countermeasures to preserve user privacy. An authentication mechanism is a leading solution to authenticate and verify the identities of cloud users while accessing cloud applications. Building a secured and flexible authentication mechanism in a cloud computing platform is challenging. Authentication techniques can be combined with other security techniques such as intrusion detection systems to maintain a verifiable layer of security. In this paper, we provide an interactive, flexible, and reliable multi-factor authentication mechanisms that are primarily based on a proposed Authentication Method Selector (AMS) technique. The basic idea of AMS is to rely on the user's previous authentication information and user behavior which can be embedded with additional authentication methods according to the organization's requirements. In AMS, the administrator has the ability to add the appropriate authentication method based on the requirements of the organization. Based on these requirements, the administrator will activate and initialize the authentication method that has been added to the authentication pool. An intrusion detection component has been added to apply the users' location and users' default web browser feature. The AMS and intrusion detection components provide a security enhancement to increase the accuracy and efficiency of cloud user identity verification.

The increase in user data stored in the device implies the increase in threats of users' sensitive data. Currently, smartphone authentication mechanisms such as Pattern Lock, fingerprint recognition are widely used. Although, there exist disadvantages of inconvenience use and dependence that users need to depend on their own memory. User behavior based authentication mechanism have advantages of high convenience by offering continuous authentication when using the mobile device. However, these mechanisms show limitations on low accuracy of authentication and there are researches to improve the accuracy. This paper proposes improved authentication mechanism that uses user's smartphone application usage pattern which has not considered on earlier studies. Also, we analyze performance of proposed mechanism with collected datasets from actual use of smartphone applications.

Nowadays, most users access internet through mobile applications. The common way to authenticate users through websites forms is using passwords; while they are efficient procedures, they are subject to guessed or forgotten and many other problems. Additional multi modal authentication procedures are needed to improve the security. Behavioral authentication is a way to authenticate people based on their typing behavior. It is used as a second factor authentication technique beside the passwords that will strength the authentication effectively. Keystroke dynamic rhythm is one of these behavioral authentication methods. Keystroke dynamics relies on a combination of features that are extracted and processed from typing behavior of users on the touched screen and smart mobile users. This Research presents a novel analysis in the keystroke dynamic authentication field using two features categories: timing and no timing combined features. The proposed model achieved lower error rate of false acceptance rate with 0.1%, false rejection rate with 0.8%, and equal error rate with 0.45%. A comparison in the performance measures is also given for multiple datasets collected in purpose to this research.

Password-based authentication using smart card provides two factor authentications, namely a successful login requires the client to have a valid smart card and a correct password. While it provides stronger security guarantees than only password authentication, it could also fail if both authentication factors are compromised ((1) the user's smart card was stolen and (2) the user's password was exposed). In this case, there is no way to prevent the adversary from impersonating the user. Now, the new technology of biometrics is becoming a popular method for designing a more secure authentication scheme. In terms of physiological and behavior human characteristics, biometric information is used as a form of authentication factor. Biometric information, such as fingerprints, faces, voice, irises, hand geometry, and palmprints can be used to verify their identities. In this article, we review the biometric-based authentication scheme by Cheng et al. and provide a security analysis on the scheme. Our analysis shows that Cheng et al.'s scheme does not guarantee any kind of authentication, either server-to-user authentication or user-to-server authentication. The contribution of the current work is to demonstrate these by mounting two attacks, a server impersonation attack and a user impersonation attack, on Cheng et al.'s scheme. In addition, we propose the enhanced authentication scheme that eliminates the security vulnerabilities of Cheng et al.'s scheme.

This paper proposes a smart phone authentication method based on user's behavior and habit that is an authentication method against shoulder surfing attack and brute force attack. As smart phones evolve not only storage of personal data but also a key means of financial services, the importance of personal information security in smart phones is growing. When user authentication of smart phone, pattern authentication method is simple to use and memorize, but it is prone to leak and vulnerable to attack. Using the features of the smart phone pattern method of the user, the pressure applied when touching the touch pad with the finger, the size of the area touching the finger, and the time of completing the pattern are used as feature vectors and applied to user authentication security. First, a smart phone user models and stores three parameter values as prototypes for each section of the pattern. Then, when a new authentication request is made, the feature vector of the input pattern is obtained and compared with the stored model to decide whether to approve the access to the smart phone. The experimental results confirm that the proposed technique shows a robust authentication security using subjective data of smart phone user based on habits and behaviors.
In this paper, a zero trust-based complex biometric authentication was proposed in a passwordless environment. The linkage of FIDO 2.0 (Fast IDENTITY Online) transaction authentication platforms was designed in conjunction with metaverse. In particular, it was applied with the location information of a smart terminal according to a geomagnetic sensor, an accelerator sensor, and biometric information for multi-factor authentication(MFA). At this time, a FIDO transaction authentication platform was presented for adaptive complex authentication with user's environment through complex authentication with secondary authentication based on situational awareness such as illuminance and temperature/humidity. As a result, it is possible to authenticate secondary users based on zero trust with behavior patterns such as fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, face recognition, and voice according to the environment. In addition, it is intended to check the linkage result of the FIDO platform for complex integrated authentication and improve the authentication accuracy of the linkage platform for transaction authentication using FIDO2.0.
Keystroke dynamics user authentication is a behavior-based authentication method which analyzes patterns in how a user enters passwords and PINs to authenticate the user. Even if a password or PIN is revealed to another user, it analyzes the input pattern to authenticate the user; hence, it can compensate for the drawbacks of knowledge-based (what you know) authentication. However, users' input patterns are not always fixed, and each user's touch method is different. Therefore, there are limitations to extracting the same features for all users to create a user's pattern and perform authentication. In this study, we perform experiments to examine the changes in user authentication performance when using feature vectors customized for each user versus using all features. User customized features show a mean improvement of over 6% in error equal rate, as compared to when all features are used.
