Objectives : Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus(HNP) of Lumbar is the most important that causes low back pain. The aim of this study is to compare several therapies about Lumbar spine Hearniated Nucleus Pulposus in oriental Medecine which are Bee-venom Acpuncture and Ouhyul Herbal Acpuncture. Methods: Subjects of this research were 60 inpatients complaining Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus, and who were diagnosed as bulging disc, disc protrusion or extrusion with CT & MRI. 20 patients in each, 3 groups; Acpuncture therapy only, Bee-venom Acpuncture, and Ouhyul Herbal Acpuncture, were divided and the conclusions for treatment are as follows. Results : 1. Regarding alleviation of pain by VAS, Ouhyul Herbal Acpuncture Group III showed significant decrease of VAS in the early period of admission(5days), while Bee-venom Acpuncture Group II showed higher score of VAS compared to Acpuncture therapy only Group I. 2. On contrary, in the latter period of admission($5{\sim}9days$), Bee-venom Acpuncture Group II showed significantly higher rate of improvement than the other groups. 3. On the 9th admission day, Bee-venom Acpuncture Group II and Ouhyul Herbal Acpuncture Group III showed higher improvement than Acpuncture therapy only Group I. Between group II and III, Group II showed higher improvement rate. Conclusions : In this study, there were different effects among three groups according to period of treatment. Further study on various traatment for Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus required.

Background : Multiple Sclerosis is characterized by chronic inflammation, demyelinization and neurogliosis(plaque) in optic nerve, brain and spinal cord, which is recurrent visual disturbance, sensory disturbance, motor disturbance and sphincter disturbance, etc. Objective : This study was performed to evaluate the treatment of acupuncture therapy including Herbal Acupuncture and Bee venom Herbal Acupuncture in Multiple Sclerosis. Methods : We treated 5 cases of Multiple Sclerosis patients with mainly Bee venom Herbal Acupuncture therapy, and herbal Acupuncture, sa-am acupuncture form 18th september, 2001 to december, 2002. Results : 1 Of 5 cases who were treated with above, 3 patients were mildly reduced symptoms and 2 patients were no changes. 2. There are two patients who were definitely appeared the recurrent symptoms on treatment period, but decreased the remission period than before. 3. It has not shown noticeable recurrent symptoms of 3 patients. Conclusions : Bee Venom Herbal Acupuncture therapy and other acupuncture therapies were effective in reducing the recurrent symptoms and remission perod, but it was not evaluated the chief complaints on 5 cases of Multiple Sclerosis. We think that it need the further study and clinical trial for Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological diseases.

Objective The aim of this study is to investigate if Sweet Bee Venom(SBV) Therapy has the equal effect in comparison with Bee Venom (BV) Therapy on Chronic Lower Back Pain. Methods Clinical studies were conducted to 39 patients who were treated Chronic Lower Back Pain in Dept. of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Dongeui University from March 1 to June 30, 2008. Subjects were randomly devided into 2 groups : BV treated group(Group A, n=19), SBV treated group(Group B, n=20) In BV treated group(Group A), we treated patients with dry needle acupuncture and BV Therapy. In SBV treated group(Group B), we treated patients with dry needle acupuncture and SBV Therapy. All process of treatment were performed by double blinding method. 1. To estimate the efficacy of venom in controlling pain, we have checked Visual Analog Scale(VAS). 2. For evaluating functional changes of patients, we have checked Oswestry Lower Back Disability Questionnaire(ODI). 3. To estimate Itching which is the most prominent symptom of allergic reaction, we have checked Visual Analog Scale(VAS). Results 1. In controlling pain, the results of BV treated group(Group A) is more effective than that of SBV treated group(Group B). 2. In promoting function, the results of BV treated group (Group A) is more effective than that of SBV treated group(Group B). 3. In controlling itching, the results of SBV treated group(Group B) is more effective than that of BV treated group(Group A). Conclusions According to the study, SBV Therapy shows more effective result than BV Therapy in controlling itching. But BV Therapy is more effective than SBV Therapy in controlling pain and promoting function.

This study was designed to study on major components of various Bee Venom(Bee Venom by electrical stimulation in Korea; K-BV I, Bee Venom by Microwave stimulation in Korea; K-BV II, 0.5mg/ml, Fu Yu Pharmaceutical Factory, China; C-BV, 1mg/ml, Monmouth Pain Institute, Inc., U.S.A.; A-BV) using HPLC(High performance liquid chromatography). The results were summarized as follows : 1. HPLC method is useful for analysis of Bee Venom when solution rate is above 1:4000. 2. Analysis of Apamin using HPLC, the Retention time was 8.7min, and standard measurement curve was a function of y=4E+06x+21245. 3. Analysis of Melittin using HPLC, the Retention time was 29.0 min, and standard measurement curve was a function of y=4E+06x+23015. 4. Concentration of Melittin was about 297times than Apamin in K-BV I, and about 329times in K-BV II at same 1:500 solution rate, abnormally about 12 times in C-BV at 1:4000 solution rate. 5. Chinese Bee Venom using HPLC, the point from 5 to 7min(Retention time) showed a big extraordinary peak. These data from the study can be applied to establish the standard measurement of Bee Venom and prevent pure bee venom from mixing of another components. I think it is desirable to study more about safety of Bee Venom as time goes by.

Objective : In this study, we investigated the effects of Sweet Bee Venom(SBV) and Bee Venom(BV) at a acupoint, HT7(Shinmun) on the Heart Rate Variability(HRV) in the healthy man. And we tried to observe how Sweet Bee Venom and Bee Venom affects on the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Methods : We investigated on 22 heathy volunteers consisted of 10 subjects in SBV group and 12 subjects in BV group. Study form was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial. 22 subjects of each group were injected SBV and BV at HT7(Shinmun). And we measured HRV by QECG-3:LXC3203 (LAXTHA Inc. Korea) on 7 times : before and after injection per 5minutes during 30minutes. Results : 1. After SBV injection, Mean-RR was significantly high from 0 to 10 minutes, Mean-HRV was significantly low from to 10 minutes, SDNN was significantly high after 25minutes, Complexity was significantly high from 5 to 10 minutes and RMSSD was significantly high from 5 to 10minutes. 2. Complexity of SBV Group significantly decreased from 20 to 25minutes, RMSSD of SBV Group significantly increased from 10 to 15minute and from $20{\sim}25$minutes, SDSD of SBV Group significantly increased from 10 to 15 minute and from $20{\sim}25$minutes compared with that of BV group. 3. After SBV injection, Ln(VLF) was significantly from 25 to 30minutes. Conclusions : The results suggest that SBV in heathy adult man tend to activate the autonomic nervous system compared to BV within normal range.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of treatment Acute peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain by Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture Methods : This report have been observed among thirty patients with peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain who admitted to oriental medicine hospital with Daejeon university During 11-01-2008 to 08-31-2009. These patients were diveided into two groups; One was control group that was treated general oriental medical treatment(Group I) and The other was treated Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture in the posterior ear with general oriental medical treatment. (Group II) Results : 1. Group II was more effective than Group I in the VAS score after 1st, 2nd, 3rd Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture treatmenton posterior ear about postauricular pain. 2. In Group II compared with Group I, postauricular pain duration was reduced. 3. As a result of evaluation by using Yanagihara score, they were not significant score within two groups after final treament. Conclusions : Bee Venom Phannacopuncture on peripheral facial paralysis patient with postauricular pain in the posterior ear was more effective in reducing the pain.

Objectives : This study is aimed to report the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided bee venom pharmacopuncture in rotator cuff disease patients. Methods : We treated 4 rotator cuff disease patients with ultrasound-guided bee venom pharmacopuncture and integrative Korean Medical Treatment. The Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Shoulder Pain And Disability Index(SPADI), and Range Of Motion(ROM) were applied as outcome measures. Results : Comparing before and after treatment, both NRS and SPADI scores were decreased, and ROM was increased in all cases. And adverse events about bee venom pharmacopuncture have not been observed. Conclusion : This study shows ultrasound-guided bee venom pharmacopuncture has a meaningful clinical effect on the improving shoulder pain, disability and ROM.

Objective : The one of the main cause in back pain & sciatica is HNP of L-spine. This study is for taking data for the clinical application of Bee-Venom Acupuncture on HNP of L-spine. Methods : This clinical study was carried out 24 patients with HNP of L-spine, who had been admitted from March, 2001 to November, 2001. We devided the patients into two groups; One was an experimental group, treated by 2 methods-common acupuncture therapy and Bee-Venom Acupuncture. The other was an control group, treated only by common acupuncture therapy. Results and Conclusion : In an experimental group, there were 4 excellent cases (33.33%) and 5 good cases(41.67%). In an control group, there were 2 excellent cases (16.67%) and 5 good cases (41.67%). We thought that it needed to prove effects of Bee- Venom Acupuncture for efficient application by more clinical data from now.

Objectives This study observed the efficacy of bee venom pharmacopuncture on the treatment of Molluscum Contagiosum commonly manifesting in children. Methods 104 patients admitted for Molluscum Contagiosum at Love Blossoming Oriental medicine clinic from August 2005 to August 2006 were administered with Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture and measured and analyzed changes in symptoms. Results 1. Regardless of age or duration of Molluscum Contagiosum, all 104 patients showed improvement. 2. Recurrence of Molluscum Contagiosum was not noticeable when treated with Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture, and the duration of treatment was significantly shorter than treating with conventional allopathic ointment. 3. Regardless of size or location of Molluscum Contagiosum, most cases improved with one or two treatments. Conclusion Based on above findings, we can deduce Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture has superior anti-viral effects on the pox virus of molluscum contagiosum (MCV1,2).

Objective : This study was to report Bell's palsy patients with severe pain back of the ear treated by Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy. Methods : The patients was treated by Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy to relieve the severe pain back of the ear. Visual Analog Scale(VAS) was used as an outcome measurement. Results : After Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy, VAS were decreased at all case. Conclusion : Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy can be available for relieving severe pain back of the ear even inducing insomnia.
