Topic Modeling Analysis of Beauty Industry using BERTopic and LDA

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is identifying the research trends of degree papers related to the beauty industry and providing information which can contribute to the development of the domestic beauty industry and the direction of various research about beauty industry. Research design, data and methodology: This study used 154 academic papers and 189 academic papers with English abstracts out of 299 academic papers. All of these papers were found by searching for the keyword "beauty industry" in ScienceON on August 15, 2022. For the analysis, BERTopic and LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) analysis were conducted using Python 3.7. Also, OLS regression analysis was conducted to understand the annual increase and decrease trend of each topic derived with trend analysis. Results: As a result of word frequency analysis, the frequency of satisfaction, management, behavior, and service was found to be high. In addition, it was found that 'service', 'satisfaction' and 'customer' were frequently associated with program and relationship in the word co-occurrence frequency analysis. As a result of topic modeling, six topics were derived: 'Beauty shop', 'Health education', 'Cosmetics', 'Customer satisfaction', 'Beauty education', and 'Beauty business'. The trend analysis result of each topic confirmed that 'Beauty education' and 'Health education' are getting more attention as time goes by. Conclusions: The future studies must resolve the extreme polarization between the structure of the small beauty industry and beauty stores. Furthermore, the researches have to direct various ways to create the performance of internal personnel. The ways to maximize product capabilities such as competitive cosmetics and brands are also needed attentions.

Evaluation of Service Quality Factors on the Nailcare Shop (네일 샵의 서비스 품질 요인에 대한 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in the service quality evaluation on the skill and expert, the shop facilities and atmosphere, the time and access, and the price and benefit of a nail care shop by age, income, spendings of appearance and a nail care, and a regular nail care. The survey was performed with questionnaires and the subjects were was 240 consumers who used the nail care. The data were analyzed by frequencies, F-test, T-test, Factor Analysis, one way ANOVA. The results of the study were as follows: Service quality evaluation were classified four factors- the price and benefits, the skill and expertness, the facilities and atmosphere, the time and access. There were no statistically significant differences in the price and benefits by age, income, spendings of appearance and a nail care, and a regular nail care, but there were statistically significant differences in the skill and expertness, the facilities and atmosphere, and the time and access. The service quality on the time and access was evaluated as high by the consumer in the 30s, with more income, and with high appearance and nail care spendings. The service quality on the shop facilities and atmosphere was evaluated as high by the consumers with high nail care spending. The consumers with a regular nail care evaluated the service quality on the skill and expertness, the time and access, the shop facilities and atmosphere as high.

Consumer Complaint Behavior over Dissatisfaction with Beauty Salon Services (미용서비스 관련 소비자불만에 대한 대응행동)

  • This study was conducted to encourage dissatisfied consumers to initiate an active complaining process over beauty salon services as well as to reduce consumer dissatisfaction at the time of using such services. A questionnaire survey was conducted with female consumers over the period between December 1 and December 20, 2004. A total of 753 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The following findings were obtained: 1. Consumer dissatisfaction index with beauty salon services was 23.02 (65.77/100) and the respondents showed the highest level of dissatisfaction with the price. 2. The level of complaints about beauty salon services was very low, as shown by the index value 7.12 (25.43/100). Most of the respondents simply did not go back to the particular beauty shop, or complained privately to people around them when they felt dissatisfied with beauty service. 3. Benefit awareness and level of dissatisfaction had the greatest effect on the complaint behavior about unsatisfaction beauty salon services.

A Study on Women's Preference for the Use of the Esthetic Shop and the Satisfaction Level of Skin Beauty Home Care (여성의 피부 관리실 이용 선호도 및 피부 미용 홈 케어 만족도 조사 연구)

  • This study includes online and offline surveys of 255 people conducted from March 11-29, 2021, into women's preferences in esthetic shops, and examines their level of satisfaction with skin and beauty home care. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 to obtain technical statistics such as Cronbach's α and a frequency analysis, and applied a chi-square test and one-way ANOVA. According to the results on preferences in esthetic shops, the largest number of respondents (56.1%) said they use professional esthetic shops, but those in their 20s and office workers (57.1%) preferred dermatology clinics. When choosing esthetic shops, the importance of employee skill (skilled, trendy) was high (38.8%), and in skin care, the importance of knowing basic cosmetics use (M=4.47), such as cleansing and functional cosmetics (M=4.20), was very high. According to results on the current status of home care for skin beauty, other factors of highest importance (M=4.50) were in terms of marriage, being a university graduate (M=3.84), and experience in a service job (M=4.06). As a result, there is a need to develop programs not only specializing in skin beauty but also combining professional esthetic shops and home care.

  • Recently, the beauty service industry in Korea is growing rapidly as women have increased role in society and consumers have more diversified desire for beauty. In that sense, studies on the environment of transaction is necessary to maintain the customers who use beauty service which Is one of the most prominent services in Korea. However, there is a lack of systematic investigation on that. Under those circumstances, this study tries to propose strategies by shedding light on the reasons of store loyalty based on empirical study. Furthermore, securing regular customers is deemed to be the most important thing as the competition among stores are getting fiercer in the wake of increase in the number of beauty salons. In that light, this study tries to shed light on the transaction cost clearly which affects the store loyalty, and focuses on the development of integrated research model for the transaction cost related to the environmental characteristics of beauty service industry and for the store loyalty.

Convergence Study on the Effect of Hair Beauty Salon Store Image, Price, Human Service, and Trust on Customer Satisfaction (헤어 미용실 점포 이미지, 가격, 인적 서비스, 신뢰가 고객만족도에 미치는 영향에 관한 융합연구)

  • The purpose of this study is a convergence study to find out the relationship between store image, price, human service, and trust on customer satisfaction among the shop selection attributes of customers using hair beauty salons. This study analyzed the data of 500 copies of questionnaires for women who used hair beauty salons within the last 6 months using the SPSS v.22 statistical package program. As a result, store image (B= 1.321, p= .004), price (B= 1.189, p= .032), human service (B= 1.013, p= .000), trust (B= .782, p = .000) was found to have a meaningful positive(+) effect on customer satisfaction, and the ranking of influence was store image (β= .445), human service (β= .377), and price (β= .252). ), And trust (β= .167). Therefore, through this study, it was found that the higher the store image, personal service, price, and trust of the customer's hair salon, the higher the customer satisfaction. We confirmed the detailed influence of the effect of customer's shop selection attributes on customer satisfaction. Among them, store image and human service were found to be factors influencing customer satisfaction. It is necessary to find an economical and efficient way to improve store image, and to cultivate competency to strengthen human service. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for establishing a differentiated marketing strategy of cosmetic services industry.

Will My Customers Come Back? A Study of Beauty Salons in Taiwan

  • Purpose - The beauty salon industry is a highly competitive market. Every beauty salon shop aims to keep its customers satisfied and hopes that they will revisit several times. Hence, this paper investigates the key factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry in Taiwan. Research design, data, and methodology - We first use the content analysis of free-response narratives from beauticians to classify the key factors objectively and develop the questionnaire accordingly. We then distribute the questionnaire to 130 beauty salon consumers to complete the questionnaire. Next, the Grey Relation Analysis is employed to identify the key factors that affect the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry. Results - From the perspectives of the beauty salon customers, the factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers are (1) obvious treatment results, (2) the treatment space considers personal privacy, (3) the offer of promotional prices for treatment/product trials, and (4) the product knowledge of the beauticians. From the perspectives of the beauticians, the factors include (1) the treatment space is well-designed and makes the customers feel relaxed, (2) enhancement of the customer relationship, (3) the treatment space considers personal privacy, and (4) the positive service attitude of the beauticians. Conclusions - We analyze all the key factors and offer some suggestions as a conclusion.

Effects of Beauty Shop Online Reservation Motivations and the Convenience of Reservation System on Customers' Word-of-mouth Behaviors : Focused on Naver and Kakao Reservation System (뷰티샵 온라인 예약 동기와 예약시스템 편의성이 고객 구전행동에 미치는 영향 -네이버예약과 카카오예약을 중심으로-)

  • The purposes of this paper are to find the effects of beauty shop online motivations on the convenience of reservation system, to investigate the convenience of reservation system on satisfaction, and to determine the effects of satisfaction on word-of-mouth behaviors. Based on the results, there are three factors in the motivations: diversion, service-prioritized, and impulse-driven tendencies. Also, there are five factors in the reservation convenience perception: efficiency of decision-making, easy monetary transaction, overall convenience, accessibility, and effortless nature of rewarding system. In terms of the convenience of online booking, the access convenience was found that as the motivation diversion and the service-prioritized motivation higher and as the impulse reservation motivation lower. Furthermore, this paper concludes that offered by online beauty service reservation systems, and higher satisfaction rate leads to higher review behaviours.

  • The nail service field, which has emerged as a new trend in the beauty industry, is showing rapid growth compared to other beauty fields. As nail beauty services become more common and popular, studies on related fields are also actively progressing, but most of the research has been focused on changes on self-esteem. In addition, most of the preceding studies are centered on female customers, thus, there is little data on male customers that are increasing recently. This research aims to provide customized marketing data to the nail beauty service industry by analyzing the psychological characteristics of the customers and their motives by selecting self-esteem and confidence as factors. First, the customers' confidence and self-esteem were classified into a group with high and low confidence and self-esteem, and as a result of analyzing the difference in service pursuit benefits and revisit intentions, there were significant differences in mood change, professionalism, health hygiene, aesthetics, and revisit. Second, as a result of analyzing the effect of the service pursuit benefits of male and female customers on the revisit intention, it was found that only health and hygiene had a significant effect on the revisit intention. Female customers also had a significant influence on their revisit intention, which is judged to have a significant effect on male customers' revisit intention because most of the main management is cuticle cleaning, callus management, and problematic nails.

Beauty Shop Workers' Views of Job (미용사의 직무만족도와 직업관)

  • This study was conducted to examine beauty shop workers' views of job. Data were collected from the workers in Seoul, Daegu, Pohang, Junjoo, and Kimhae from June 1, 2000 to August 31, 2000. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. According to general characteristics of the subjects, 28,7% of them was female; 94.2% 'specialized in hair'; 46.4% 'below twenty nine years old'; 47.1% 'married'; 59.7% 'highschool graduate'; 33.9% 'worked for below three years'; 28.5% 'monthly income of five hundred thousand to nine hundred ninety thousand won'; 62.3% 'working for above twelve hours a day' ; 41.0% 'above five workers' ; 40.6% 'working in city'. 2. 54.8% of the respondents thought that they were in good health. 76.3% of them smoked and 54.8% drank. 62.8% of them did not exercise and 78.7% was under stress. 61.5% responded that they chose the job because of its possibility of professional vocation. 91.0% of them obtained the beauty skill from beauty schools. 3. Among the factors which influenced job satisfaction, 'stable job and life security' was highest(43.9%), while 'interest in the job and amount of pay' was lowest(3.2%). 'Personal ability and use of originality' was 19.4% and 'harmonious relationship with fellow workers' was 18.1%. 'Job environment' was 7.1% and 'harmonious relationship with higher workers' was 4.5%. 4. The level workers' view of job was $113.8{\pm}17.3$ points on the basis of 150 points. On the basis of 75 points, each item showed it points in order of self-development($22.3{\pm}3.8$), service for customers($20.1{\pm}3.1$), vocational mission($15.6{\pm}3.1$), harmony with the others($18.9{\pm}3.5$), working environment($18.6{\pm}3.6$), and working condition($14.3{\pm}5.1$). 5. Among the reasons why they considered leaving the job, 24.0% of them considered it because they could not free time, while 15.4% considered it because undesirable living environment or long distance from home. 15.0% thought it because they could not receive proper treatment as much as they worked and 12.8% thought they overworked. 6. When they move into new working places, they consider such factors as good working environment(24.1%), good place to open their own beauty shops(16.7%), good beauty shop to learn beauty skill(15.6%), chance to have job training(9.5%), and close place from home(9.0%). 7. 40.6% of the respondents wanted to leave the job, while 32.3% of them did not want to leave the job. The intention of leaving the displayed significant difference in the variables of age, working period, monthly income, marital status, the number of workers, location of the shop, rank, and reason of selecting the job. 8. According to the results of a regression analysis of factors which influenced job satisfaction, it was affected significantly by intention of leaving job, the number of workers, health condition, level of stress, and monthly income. The beauty shop workers showed low satisfaction level with working environment, working condition, and working mission, They considered leaving the job because of lack of free time, overwork, poor working environment, improper treatment, etc. Therefore, related professionals and organizations must device adequate measures in order to make them work with pride as creators of beauty.
