스크롤압축기용 오일레스 베어링의 신뢰성 평가 (Reliability Evaluation of Oilless Bearing for Scroll Compressor)

  • The life of oilless bearing affects the durability of scroll compressor. The main shaft of the scroll compressor is supported by oiiless bearing. Some of the major parameters which influence the life of oilless bearing are rotational speed, normal load, environment of refrigerant and oil film thickness. The reliability evaluation of oiiless bearing is performed through the acceleration life test for reduction of experimental time and costs. In this study, the experimental and computational investigations were performed to verify the effects of various parameters on the life of oilless bearing. The acceleration factor was achieved with the lubrication analysis between the scroll compressor and the developed reliability tester. the expected life of oilless bearing was guaranteed by reliability evaluation accompanied with the acceleration life test.

  • 자동차용 휠 베어링은 회전운동을 전달하고 차량의 무게를 지지해주는 중요한 부품이다. 최근 $CO_2$ 배출가스 저감과 연비 규제에 따라서 자동차 경량화 및 소형화 요구는 점점 증가하고 있고, 이에 부응하여 베어링의 수명 평가기술은 더욱 그 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 휠 베어링의 내구수명은 고려해야 할 인자들이 매우 다양하며 이들이 서로 복잡하게 연관되어 있으므로 수명을 예측하는 것이 쉽지 않다. 본 논문에서는 자동차용 휠 베어링의 수명에 영향을 끼치는 많은 인자들 중에서 작동하중과 회전속도를 변화시키면서 수명을 시험하였고, 이를 ISO 국제표준에서 제안하는 이론수명인 기본정격수명과 보정정격수명 결과와 비교하였다. 이들 수명을 비교한 결과, 기본정격수명과 보정정격수명 모두 시험수명과 차이가 존재하며, 기본정격수명 보다 보정정격수명이 시험수명을 상대적으로 잘 예측함을 알 수 있었다.

  • The failures such as flaking, wear, crack and seizing caused by the high contact pressure accompanied with sliding motion between inner or outer ring and ball are potential failures of ball bearing. In this research, we have qualitatively selected the efficient test items through the analysis of the life and potential failures of ball bearing. The bearing's failures are related closely to the whole system in using the bearing. So, the bearing itself requires an estimation of life in order to opreate the system safely. We have tested ten ball bearings. Our research has applied both radial and axial direction force of maximum torque conditions simultaneously for the accelerated life testing. The result is established by employing the weibull plot and compared the predicted life of ball bearing to the experimental result.

특성별 그리이스의 수명과 열화특성 연구 (Grease Life and Degradation Characteristics in Rolling Bearing Lubrication)

  • High performance characteristics are required for rolling bearings and the various functions of bearing are greatly influenced by grease. Recently, higher performance is being demanded of rolling bearing greases for bearing lubrication. Four special greases with different composition such as lithium soap/ester oil, urea/ester oil, urea/ether oil and PTFE/fluorine oil were synthesized to compare the performance of these greases with that of the conventional lithium soap/mineral oil grease. The grease properties were investigated using a series of typical grease testing methods and grease life test. After the life test, the greases were charaterized by FTIR analysis and a microscope. And the iron amount in the greases was analyzed by AAS after ashing. The composition and manufacturing process determined the grease performance. The grease with a base oil of synthetic oil showed higher performance and the urea/ester oil and PTFE/fluorine oil showed about three times longer life as compared with conventional lithium grease.

  • A water-pump located in the cooling area of a car circulates cooling water. A particular bearing element, known as a water-pump bearing, installed in the rotating part carries the entire load. The failure of this water-pump bearing has a direct impact on the failure of the automobile engine, and so securing its reliability is crucial. Several researchers have examined the design principles of the water-pump bearing, but there are no reports on the life characteristic of the bearing yet. Herein, we report the construction of test equipment to reproduce the spalling of the roller contact, which is the main failure mode of the chosen water-pump bearing. We chose the radial load as an accelerated stress factor and validated the failure mode by monitoring the surface defects. We conducted the accelerated life test after determining the accelerated stress level through a combination of finite element analysis and a preliminary test. In the life tests, we used an accelerometer to perform failure diagnosis. In the last stage of this study, we present a statistical reliability analysis. Thus, we fully estimated the shape parameter of the water-pump bearing, accelerating level on the load , and the lifetime (MTTF and B10 life) under real use conditions, and finally proposed an interval estimation value considering the uncertainty of the estimated value.

  • Ball bearing is a device that supports and transmits a load acting on a rotating shaft, and it is a type of rolling bearings that uses the rolling friction of the balls by inserting balls between the inner ring and the outer ring. Grease, which is prepared by mixing a thickener with a base oil, is a lubricant commonly used in bearings and has the advantage of a simple structure and easy handling. Bearings are increasingly being used in high value-added products such as semiconductors, aviation, and robots in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. Accordingly, there is an increasing demand for bearing grease. The selection of grease is an important factor in the bearing design. Therefore, a study must be conducted on the grease life evaluation to select an appropriate grease according to operating conditions such as a high temperature, high rotational speed, and high load. In this study, we evaluate the life of ball-bearing grease according to various operating conditions, namely, temperature, speed, and load changes. For this, we develop and theoretically verify a grease life test machine for ball bearings. We conduct a life test of grease according to various operating conditions of bearings and predict the grease life with a 10% and 50% failure probability using the Weibull analysis. In addition, we analyze the oxide characteristics of the grease over time using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the deterioration characteristics of the grease using the carbonyl index.

수윤활 볼베어링의 리테이너 설계 특성 (Design Characteristics for Water Lubricated Ball Bearing Retainer)

  • Deep groove ball bearing is installed in a control element of an integral nuclear reactor, where water is used as coolant and lubricant. This bearing is made of STS440C stainless steel for the raceways and the balls to use in radioactive environment and water. It is known that the retainer design affects ball bearing operability and endurance life, however there is no verified retainer design and material for water lubricated ball bearing. Four kinds of retainers are manufactured for the endurance test of water lubricated deep groove ball bearing. Three of them are commercially developed types and the other is designed for this research. It is verified that ball bearings with steel pressed and general plastic retainer can not survive to required life in the water, however bearings with machined type and cylinder type retainer can survive. This proves that one of the major design parameters for water lubricated ball bearing is retainer type and material. In this paper, experimental research of endurance test for water-lubricated ball bearing are reported.

최적 베어링 윤활 그리이스의 합성과 특성연구 (A Study on Synthesis and Characteristics of The Optimum Rolling Bearing Greases)

  • Rolling bearings are classified one of the most important machine elements. The various function of bearings are greatly influenced by grease, and higher performance of rolling bearing greases is required in improve bearing lubrication. Three urea/ether oil greases with identical composition were synthesized to compare the performance of these greases according to the thickener content of grease. The typical grease physical properties were investigated. And life test of these greases was conducted by FE-9 grease life tester. The characteristics of the greases before and after life test were investigated using FT-IR, microscope, OIT and TAN meter. Large differences in the grease performance depending on the content of the thickener were observed. The grease with higher content of the hickener showed higher performance such as long life time and low TAN value. After preliminary test, twelve greases were synthesized and evaluated the performance of dropping point and OIT, then optimized two greases were selected by SSRED (Six Sigma Robust Engineering Design) using dropping point and OIT data. Characteristics of the optimized two greases were on the same level with estimated value. The optimized grease by means of OIT value showed longer grease life in comparison with optimized grease by dropping point. However two greases showed higher performance than typical urea/ether oil.

  • The shot peening treatment were conducted for improving the strength of rolling contact fatigue of machine element like a gear. This paper was undertaken to analyze the influence of shot peening treatment for inner race of ball bearing on the rolling contact fatigue. Shot peening treatment were applied to the full hardened and the carbonitrided bearing. And the rolling contact fatigue life test and X-ray diffraction test were carried out. The results of this study showed that the fatigue life of ball bearing in the clean and the contaminated oil could be improved by shot peening treatment. This effect was found to be more pronounced to the full hardened bearing. These facts might be due to the generation of compressive residual stress and the strain hardening of surface layer by shot peening treatment. The failure of the shot peened bearing were presumed to initiate at surface.
