The coal wall, gob-side backfill, and gangues in goaf, constitute the support system for Gob-side entry retaining (GER) in coal mines. Reasonably allocating and utilizing their bearing capacities are key scientific and technical issues for the safety and economic benefits of the GER technology. At first, a mechanical model of GER was established and a governing equation for coordinated bearing of the coal-backfill-gangue support system was derived to reveal the coordinated bearing mechanism. Then, considering the bearing characteristics of the coal wall, gob-side backfill and gangues in goaf, their quantitative design methods were proposed, respectively. Next, taking the No. 2201 haulage roadway serving the No. 7 coal seam in Jiangjiawan Mine, China, as an example, the design calculations showed that the strains of both the coal wall and gob-side backfill were larger than their allowable strains and the rotational angle of the lateral main roof was larger than its allowable rotational angle. Finally, flexible-rigid composite supporting technology and roof cutting technology were designed and used. In situ investigations showed that the deformation and failure of surrounding rocks were well controlled and both the coal wall and gob-side backfill remained stable. Taking the coal wall, gob-side backfill and gangues in goaf as a whole system, this research takes full consideration of their bearing properties and provides a quantitative basis for design of the support system.
In this paper, we propose a new method for detecting bearing faults using vibration signals. The proposed method is based on support vector machines (SVMs), which treat the harmonics of fault-related frequencies from vibration signals as fault indices. Using SVMs, the cross-validations are used for a training process, and a two-stage classification process is used for detecting bearing faults and their status. The proposed approach is applied to outer-race bearing fault detection in three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the bearing faults and their status, hence improving the accuracy of fault diagnosis.

The fault diagnosis of rolling element bearings has drawn considerable research attention in recent years because these fundamental elements frequently suffer failures that could result in unexpected machine breakdowns. Artificial intelligence algorithms such as artificial neural networks (ANNs) and support vector machines (SVMs) have been widely investigated to identify various faults. However, as the useful life of a bearing deteriorates, identifying early bearing faults and evaluating their sizes of development are necessary for timely maintenance actions to prevent accidents. This study proposes a new two-layer structure consisting of support vector regression machines (SVRMs) to recognize bearing fault patterns and track the fault sizes. The statistical parameters used to track the fault evolutions are first extracted to condense original vibration signals into a few compact features. The extracted features are then used to train the proposed two-layer SVRMs structure. Once these parameters of the proposed two-layer SVRMs structure are determined, the features extracted from other vibration signals can be used to predict the unknown bearing health conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by experimental datasets collected from a test rig. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly accurate in differentiating between fault patterns and determining their fault severities. Further, comparisons are performed to show that the proposed method is better than some existing methods.

Hollow Core Slab is a very efficient system that can reduce weight and its use has increased. Void slab is a concrete slab that has voids substituted with void material. Because of its saved volume of concrete, void slab can reduce weight of slabs. Also, it can't only save concrete but also can reduce carbon-emission. However, because of the unclear bearing strength at the part of void substituted with voiding material, several problems occur in constructing field. In this study, void slab including void material was built and local bearing strength test was carried out for 3 types of load(truck load, support load and Jack support load). As a result, bearing strength of void neck and upper void material is more than allowable load. And also, bearing strength of specimens with using deck and not using deck are also over allowable loads.
It has long been recognized that the H-beam steel rib has many shortcomings when used as a steel support in tunneling. One of the major shortcomings is the shotcrete shadow created behind H-beam flange which eventually reduces the load bearing capacity of shotcrete shell. In many European countries, plate girder as the H-beam steel rib has been replaced by lattice girder which has many advantages over the H-beam steel rib. Successful application of the lattice girder as a steel support requires a thorough investigation on the load bearing capacity of the lattice girder. Therefore, laboratory bending and compression tests were conducted on lattice girders with the aim of investigating the load bearing capacity of the lattice girders. The results of tests show that the load bearing capacity of laIn twice girders is higher than that of H-beams, which indicates that the lattice girder can be effectively used as a support in tunneling.

It is very important to estimate static squeezing pressure distributions for lining material of sterntube after bearing at dry dock stage since the maximum squeezing pressure value can be one of the significant characteristics representing coming navigation performances of the propulsion system. Moderate oil film pressure between lining material and propulsion shaft is also essential for safe ship service. In this paper, Hertz contact theory is explained to derive static squeezing pressure. Reynolds equation simplified from Navier-Stokes equation is centrally differentiated to numerically obtain dynamic oil film pressures. New shaft alignment technology of nonlinear elastic multi-support bearing elements is also used in order to obtain external forces acting on lining material of bearing. For 300K DWT class VLCC with synthetic bush of sterntube after bearing, static squeezing pressures are calculated using derived external forces and Hertz contact theory. Optimum partial slope of the after bush is presented by parametric shaft alignment analyses. Dynamic oil film pressures are comparatively evaluated for partially bored and unbored after bush. Finally it is proved that the partial slope can drastically reduce oil film pressure during engine running.

In this study, three-dimensional rotordynamic analyses have been conducted using equivalent beam, hybrid and fun three-dimensional models. The Present computational method is based on the general finite element method with rotating gyroscopic effects of a rotor system. General purpose commercial finite element code, SAMCEF which includes practical rotordynamics module with various types of rotor analysis methods and bearing elements is applied. For the purpose of numerical verification, comparison study for a benchmark rotor model with support bearings is performed first. Detailed finite element models based on three different modeling concepts are constructed and then computational analyses are conducted for the realistic and complex three-dimensional rotor system. The results for rotor stability and mass unbalance response are presented and compared with the experimental vibration test conducted in this study.
In this study is performed a complex lubrication analysis of a herringbone groove air journal bearing, which shows a big potential as an oilless bearing for a color wheel used as an original color source for a large DLP projection television and rotating at a rated-speed of 10,800 rpm. The Galerkin FE and perturbation methods are used for a lubrication analysis of the bearing. The effects of groove number, angle and depth and bearing clearance on the dynamic stability of the bearing are investigated in terms of the critical mass, and its equilibrium positions, stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated at various rotating speeds. Results have shown that the designed herringbone groove air journal bearing is quite suitable as a support bearing for the considered high-speed color wheel in terms of the complex lubrication performances of the bearing itself.

Bearing is one of the important mechanical elements used in various industrial equipments. Most of failures occurred during the equipment operation result from bearing defects and breakages. Therefore, monitoring of bearings is essential in preventing equipment breakdowns and reducing unexpected loss. The purpose of this paper is to present an online monitoring method to predict bearing states using vibration signals. Bearing vibrations, which are collected as a form of profile signal, are first analyzed by a discrete wavelet transform. Next, some statistical features are obtained from the resultant wavelet coefficients. In order to select significant ones among them, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is employed in this paper. Statistical features screened in this way are used as input variables to support vector machine (SVM). An hierarchical SVM tree is proposed for dealing with multi-class problems. The result of numerical experiments shows that the proposed SVM tree has a competent performance for classifying bearing fault states.

Recently, the precision required by precision manufacturing and machinery related to electronics is within the domain of submicron that it is difficult to evaluate them by traditional measuring equipments and methods. Accordingly, precision of sub 0.1.mu.m super precise position-decision-apparatus and straight-guide air bearing have been researched and they are almost ready to be used. In utilizing straight-guide-table for super-precision-measurement which used externally pressurized porous air bearing as a way of externally pressurized air bearing, the high-precision-straight movement is the most crucial. In this study, the researcher conducted the experimental study with trial manufacture to see how the surrounding temperature and support condition influenced the selection and allocation of the machine composing element which is important to the high-precision-straight movement. The researcher finding showed that when the property of the rail part and support part of the semi-closed slider form is different, the heat generation of the working motor and surrounding temperature influence the high-precision-straight movement significantly and the researcher showed the influence of the condition of central load and eccentric load to the straight movement precision when the support stand of the straight-table was supported by numerical values.
