  • This paper studies secure wireless transmission from a multi-antenna transmitter to a single-antenna intended receiver overheard by multiple eavesdroppers with considering the imperfect channel state information (CSI) of wiretap channel. To enhance security of communication link, the artificial noise (AN) is generated at transmitter. We first design the robust joint optimal beamforming of secret signal and AN to minimize transmit power with constraints of security quality of service (QoS), i.e., minimum allowable signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at receiver and maximum tolerable SINR at eavesdroppers. The formulated design problem is shown to be nonconvex and we transfer it into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique is used and the approximated method is proved to solve the original problem exactly. To verify the robustness and tightness of proposed beamforming, we also provide a method to calculate the worst-case SINR at eavesdroppers for a designed transmit scheme using semidefinite programming (SDP). Additionally, the secrecy rate maximization is explored for fixed total transmit power. To tackle the nonconvexity of original formulation, we develop an iterative approach employing sequential parametric convex approximation (SPCA). The simulation results illustrate that the proposed robust transmit schemes can effectively improve the transmit performance.

  • A novel approach to solve signal variation due to ship rocking in maritime wireless communication is introduced. We assume a ship-to-shore based communication scenario, where the transmitter is on shore and the receiver on the ship. Due to the ocean conditions, such as the presence of waves and wind etc. the ship is not stable and constantly experiences some form of rocking motion. This rocking motion causes the antenna on the ship to sway, creating instability in the signal reception. We envisage that the signal is offset at the receiver incurring high Bit Error Rate. This paper is to investigate and counter this problem by using Multiple-input Multiple-output (MIMO) technique. We propose to implement beamforming technique with multiple transmit antennas. The implementation of this proposed method crafts a robust maritime communication network.

  • Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) is considered as a technology in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) system. In this paper, we design and analyze the performance of the Coordinated Beamforming (CB) technique, which is one major category of CoMP. We perform Monte Carlo simulations with a Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) in LTE-A, and confirm the performance through a graph of the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF). From the simulation results, we show significant performance gain with the CoMP technique, and better performance when we apply various schemes of scheduling and precoding.

  • Abstract- In distant-talking environments, speech recognition performance degrades significantly due to noise and reverberation. Recent work of Michael L. Selzer shows that in microphone array speech recognition, the word error rate can be significantly reduced by adapting the beamformer weights to generate a sequence of features which maximizes the likelihood of the correct hypothesis. In this approach, called Likelihood Maximizing Beamforming algorithm (Limabeam), one of the method to implement this Limabeam is an UnSupervised Limabeam(USL) that can improve recognition performance in any situation of environment. From our investigation for this USL, we could see that because the performance of optimization depends strongly on the transcription output of the first recognition step, the output become unstable and this may lead lower performance. In order to improve recognition performance of USL, some post-filter techniques can be employed to obtain more correct transcription output of the first step. In this work, as a post-filtering technique for first recognition step of USL, we propose to add a Wiener-Filter combined with Feature Weighted Malahanobis Distance to improve recognition performance. We also suggest an alternative way to implement Limabeam algorithm for Hidden Markov Network (HM-Net) speech recognizer for efficient implementation. Speech recognition experiments performed in real distant-talking environment confirm the efficacy of Limabeam algorithm in HM-Net speech recognition system and also confirm the improved performance by the proposed method.

  • High peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) is one of serious problems in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems. This paper proposes a PAPR reduction technique for limited feedback multiple input multiple output(MIMO) OFDM systems. The proposed method is based on the null space of the MIMO channel where a dummy signal is made in the channel's null space and then, subtracted from the original signal to reduce the PAPR. First, we show that a problem occurs when the existing method is directly applied to limited feedback MIMO case. Then, a weight function for the dummy signal is proposed to mitigate the degradation of the receiver performance while still reducing PAPR significantly. The weight function is derived from a constrained nonlinear optimization problem to minimize the mean square error between the received signal and its ideal signal. Simulation results shows that the proposed technique provides about 2.5dB PAPR reduction with 0.2dB bit-error probability loss.

  • In this paper, we propose 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver in wireless backhaul downlink system where macro base station has large antenna array with sub-array structure. Also, to compare the system capacity, we apply 3-stage beamformer with zero-forcing precoder and calculate the achievable sum rate of received small cell base stations. Considering scattering and path-loss property of wireless backhaul channel, we combine precoding technique for spatial multiplexing and beamforming technique to overcome path-loss. Therefore, we design DFT-based fixed beam patterns for the first stage. The simulation results show that considering spatial multiplexing, proposed 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver can increase the achievable sum rate as well as reduce the feedback information.

  • Various array processing techniques to identify the noise source position or bearing have been developed. Typical array processing techniques which are based on time delay between received signals at two sensors, are classified as conventional beamforming, correlation function and NAH (Near-Field Acoustic Holography) techniques which have their own characteristics with respect to application field and signal processing method. In this study, correlation function technique which could be applied for broadband noise source detection, is adopted and the effective detection technique is proposed considering the effects of source bandwidth and measurement noise correlation of noise sources. The validity of the Proposed technique is evaluated using the 3-dimensional nonlinear any which does not give 3-dimensional Position or bearing ambiguity

  • The study on interference channel is very important information theoretically and many studies have been done on it. However, even in the simplest case, even in the case of two user interfering channels, the channel capacity is not yet known except in special cases. Recently, research on the multiplexing gain that shows the tendency of the transmission rate in the high signal to noise ratio (SNR) band has been actively carried out, instead of accurately grasping the channel capacity. Obtaining optimal multiplexing gain can reveal trends in channel capacity at high signal-to-noise ratio bands. In an interfering channel with two users, the best multiplexing gain can be obtained by eliminating the interference. However, recent research shows that when the number of users is more than three, the optimal multiplexing gain can not be obtained only by zero forcing and a new technique called interference sorting is needed. There are two types of interference sorting techniques. Beamforming A method of effectively separating signals and interference by properly selecting matrices and constructing structured codes using rational numbers and irrational numbers. The interference alignment technique can achieve optimal multiplexing gain in various environments such as interference channel, X channel, compound broadcast channel, and multi hop network for multi source multi destination. In recent years, it has also been applied to distributed storage. • This paper describes the implemenation of localization and visualization scheme to find out an ultrasonic source caused by defects of a power distribution line equipment. To increase the fault detection performance, $2{\times}4$ sensor array is configured with MEMS ultrasonic sensors, and from the sensor signals aquired, the azimuth and elevation angles of the ultrasonic source is estimated based on the delay-sum beam forming method. Also, to visualize the estimated location, it is marked on the background image. Experimental results show applicability of the present technique.

  • Delay-and-sum (DAS) Planar Beamforming has been a widely used Noise Source Identification Technique for the last decade. It is a quick one shot measurement technique being able to map sources that are larger than the array itself. The spatial resolution is proportional to distance between array and source, and inversely proportional to wavelength, thus the resolution is only good at medium to high frequencies. Improved algorithms using iterative de-convolution techniques offers up to ten times better resolution. The principle behind these techniques is described in this paper, as well as measurement examples from the automotive industry are presented.
