This article presents a comparative analysis of seismic behavior in steel-beam reinforced concrete column (RCS) frames versus steel and reinforced concrete frames. The study evaluates the seismic response and collapse behavior of RCS frames of varying heights through nonlinear modeling. RCS, steel, and reinforced concrete special moment frames are considered in three height categories: 5, 10, and 20 stories. Two-dimensional frames are extracted from the three-dimensional structures, and nonlinear static analyses are conducted in the OpenSEES software to evaluate seismic response in post-yield regions. Incremental dynamic analysis is then performed on models, and collapse conditions are compared using fragility curves. Research findings indicate that the seismic intensity index in steel frames is 1.35 times greater than in RCS frames and 1.14 times greater than in reinforced concrete frames. As the number of stories increases, RCS frames exhibit more favorable collapse behavior compared to reinforced concrete frames. RCS frames demonstrate stable behavior and maintain capacity at high displacement levels, with uniform drift curves and lower damage levels compared to steel and reinforced concrete frames. Steel frames show superior strength and ductility, particularly in taller structures. RCS frames outperform reinforced concrete frames, displaying improved collapse behavior and higher capacity. Incremental Dynamic Analysis results confirm satisfactory collapse capacity for RCS frames. Steel frames collapse at higher intensity levels but perform better overall. RCS frames have a higher collapse capacity than reinforced concrete frames. Fragility curves show a lower likelihood of collapse for steel structures, while RCS frames perform better with an increase in the number of stories.
The grade of East Asian architecture is generally classified by the size, the shape of the roof, and the type of bracket set. The craftsmanship of columns, beam, purlin, stylobate, column base stone and paintwork is also a contributing factor for such classifications. These classifications can be found not only in historical documents such as 「Oksajo(屋舍條)」 of 『Samguksagi(三國史記)』 but also in 「house details regulations of residential architecture(家舍規制)」 of Joseon Dynasty. However, there are differences in detailed designs among the same grade of architecture regardless of the classification. In this research, the Palace, the Royal Residence(宮家), and the Jaesil(齋室) are considered as the Palatial Buildings and Royal Residences. And the advanced architectural o details which appear only in the Royal Architectures are defined as the 'The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners'. The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners is detailed design, which can be seen as fabrication of materials and supplementary factors. The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners used in the Palatial Buildings and Royal Residences reveal the types and their historical changes. This research will present a basis for the repair and restoration of cultural heritages to be carried out in the future, and also prevent them from further damages, thus help to preserve the cultural heritages.

We have, at present, found some studies on the optimum design of reinforced concrete about the simple slab but very few about the multi-story and multi-span slab. The aim of this study is to make a optimum design of coalesced beam and column slab constructure. Some results of the evaluation by using the optimalized algorithm that was developed in this study are as follows. 1. Slab was mainly restricted by the constraint of effective depth, bending moment, and minimum steel ratio; especially the effective depth was the preceding crifical constraint. In the optimum design of slab, therefore, the constraint about the minimum thickness should be surely considered. 2. This optimum design is good economy as much as some 3.4&~6.2% compared with the conventional design method. 3. In most case, it was converged by 3 to 6 iteratin regardless of the highest or lowest value and only in case of N=1 and case 1, there is a little oscillation after the 3rd iteration but it makes no difference in taking either the highest or lowest value because the range of oscillation is low as much as about 1.2% of the total construction cost. 4. In this study the result seeking for constraints that make no difference in the least cost design shows that shear stress and maximum steel ration may not be considered in it. 5. Bending moment was converged by one time iteration regardless of the initial value, while steel ratio, in most case, by two times because both bending moment and steel ratio are the fuction of effective depth.
GA-based fuzzy optimum design algorithm incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method is presented in this study. In the refined plastic hinge analysis method, geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of the beam-column members. Material nonlinearity is also considered by using the gradual stiffness degradation model, which considers the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurence of plastic hinges, and the geometric imperfections of the members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and the total weight of the steel frames. The requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and constructabil ity are used as the constraint conditions. In fuzzy optimization, for crisp objective function and fuzzy constraint s, the tolerance that is accepted is 5% of the constraints. Furthermore, a level-cut method is presented from 0 to 1 at a 0 .2 interval, with the use of the nonmembership function, to solve fuzzy-optimization problems. The values of conventional GA optimization and fuzzy GA optimization are compared in several examples of steel structures.
A GA-based optimum design algorithm and a program for plane steel frame structures with semi-rigid connections are presented. The algorithm is incorporated with the refined plastic hinge analysis method wherein geometric nonlinearity is considered by using the stability functions of beam-column members, and material nonlinearity, by using the gradual stiffness degradation model that includes the effects of residual stresses, moment redistribution through the occurrence of plastic hinges, semi-rigid connections, and geometric imperfection of members. In the genetic algorithm, the tournament selection method and micro-GAs are employed. The fitness function for the genetic algorithm is expressed as an unconstrained function composed of objective and penalty functions. The objective and penalty functions are expressed as the weight of steel frames and the constraint functions, respectively. In particular, the constraint functions fulfill the requirements of load-carrying capacity, serviceability, ductility, and construction workability. To verify the appropriateness of the present method, the optimal design results of two plane steel frames with rigid and semi-rigid connections are compared.
In this study, the effect of semi-rigid connections on the structural behavior of 20-story braced steel structure has been investigated utilizing the second-order elastic structural analysis program in which nonlinear behavior of beam-column connections and geometric nonlinearity have been considered. Global effects such as P-delta effect and sway at the top have been studied, as well as distribution of member force and combined stress in structural members as local effects. When the structure subjected to horizontal load and vertical load is equipped with lateral-load resisting system such as braces, replacement of shear connection with semi-rigid connection has not caused any problem in P-delta effect and top lateral displacement. Distribution of member forces resulted in reduction in member size for economic structural design.
As the building structures are higher and bigger, the high-performance steels of high strength, toughness, and low yield ratio had been required and developed. In this paper the behavior of the moment connection with bolted web and high strength steel was studied by using the finite-element analysis computer program of ABAQUS. The analysis model is based on the test results and the same cyclic load history was applied at the FE(Finite Element) model until it failed in the test. Through the FEA, several indicators hardly measured from the test were acquired. These indicators related to stress and strain were selected from three plastic rotation stages: 0.003 rad, 0.03 rad, and final failure rotation. Specifically, at the final failure stage, the strain indicators producing the full plastic behavior were suggested as a mechanical property for steel.

A linear analysis method using reduced secant stiffness was developed for inelastic earthquake design of reinforced concrete structures. In the proposed method, the beam-column element and plane element, which are the same as used in conventional elastic analysis, are used for structural modeling. Based on the structural plastic mechanism intended by engineer, the distribution of inelastic members is determined. The secant stiffness of the inelastic members is determined based on the target ductility of the structure. Inelastic strengths of the members are calculated by using linear analysis on the structure modeled with secant stiffness. Plastic rotations in the inelastic members are calculated with the nodal rotations resulting from the secant stiffness analysis. For verification, the proposed method was applied to the inelastic earthquake designs of a moment-resisting frame and a dual system of two dimensions, and also a dual system of three dimensions.

Generally the connection of structural members is assumed as hinge, rigid and semi-rigid connections. The exact tangent stiffness matrix of a semi-rigid frame element is newly derived using the stability functions considering shear deformations. Also, linearized elastic- and geometric-stiffness matrices of shear deformable semi-rigid frame are newly proposed. For the exact stiffness matrix, an accurate displacement field is introduced by equilibrium equation for beam-column under the bending and the axial forces. Also, stability functions considering sway deformation and force-displacement relations with elastic rotational spring on ends are defined. In order to illustrate the accuracy of this study, various numerical examples are presented and compared with other researcher's results. Lastly, shear deformation and semi-rigid effects on buckling behaviors of structure are parametrically investigated.

For the purpose of optimum design of reinforced concrete structures, pre-determined section database of column and beam are constructed and arranged in order of the resisting capacity. Then, regression equations representing the relation between section number and section resisting capacity are derived. In advance, effective optimization algorithms which search optimized solution quickly using direct search method from these database are proposed. In practice, from the fact that engineers conduct member design close to capacity optimization rather than cost optimization, both capacity and cost optimization using proposed algorithms are performed, and the review for the obtained results are followed. Moreover, the investigation for the applicability and effectiveness of the Introduced design procedure is conducted through correlation study for example structures. Because of no restriction in constructing objective functions with very simple optimization processes and fast convergence, the introduced method can effectively be used in the preliminary design stage. Especially, selected solutions from database are directly applicable in practice because these sections already satisfy all the requirements in design codes and practical restrictions.
