  • A Phonetic Tied-Mixture (PTM) model has been proposed as a way of efficient decoding in large vocabulary continuous speech recognition systems (LVCSR). It has been reported that PTM model shows better performance in decoding than triphones by sharing a set of mixture components among states of the same topological location[5]. In this paper we propose a Phonetic Tied-Mixture Syllable (PTMS) model which extends PTM technique up to syllables. The proposed PTMS model shows 13% enhancement in decoding speed than PTM. In spite of difference in context dependent modeling (PTM : cross-word context dependent modeling, PTMS : word-internal left-phone dependent modeling), the proposed model shows just less than 1% degradation in word accuracy than PTM with the same beam width. With a different beam width, it shows better word accuracy than in PTM at the same or higher speed.

  • In this paper, a dynamic modeling approach is introduced to identify the dynamic characteristics of the structural/mechanical joints within an one-dimensional structure. A structural joint is represented by the four-pole parameters and the four-pole parameters are determined from the measured frequency response functions by using the spectral element method. As the illustrative examples, a cantilevered beam and a clamped-clamped beam, each consists of two beams connected by a bolted joint, are investigated to evaluate the present modeling approach. It is found that the dynamic responses predicted by using the identified four-pole parameters for the bolted joint are well agreed with the dynamic responses measured up to high frequency.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D modeling method using Laser Slit Beam and Stereo Camera. We can get depth information of image by analyzing projected Laser Slit Beam on object. 3D modeling is demanded exquisite merge of 3D data. In our approach, we can get the depth image where the reliability is high. Each reconstructed 3D modeling is combined by the sink information which is acquired by SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) Algorithm. We perform experiments using indoor images. The results show that the proposed method works well in indoor environments

  • Applying a direct formulation for the enrichment of the displacement field an extended finite element (XFEM) scheme for modeling of cohesive crack growth is developed. Only elements cut by the crack is enriched and the scheme fits within the framework of standard FEM code. The scheme is implemented for the 3-node constant strain triangle (CST) and the 6-node linear strain triangle (LST). Modeling of standard concrete test cases such as fracture in the notched three point beam bending test (TPBT) and in the four point shear beam test (FPSB) illustrates the performance. The XFEM results show good agreement with results obtained by applying standard interface elements in FEM and with experimental results. In conjunction with criteria for crack growth local versus nonlocal computation of the crack growth direction is discussed.

  • The super-structure in a soil-structure interaction analysis is commonly idealized as lumped parameter system. In this study, the complex shear wall structure is modeled using three different kinds of modeling techniques : 1) full FEM comparatively as an exact solution, 2)equivalent shear spring model assuming mainly shear deformations of the wall, 3) equivalent beam-stick model made by independent static analysis. Dynamic characteristics due to three different modeling methods are compared and investigated before performing structural response analysis. The beam-stick model in comparison to shear spring model gives closer dynamic responses when compared with the full FEM, even though it requires additional unit load static analyses.

  • This study conducts topic modeling analysis on four electric scooter sharing platforms: Alpaca, SingSing, Kickgoing, and Beam. Using user review data, the study aims to identify key topics and issues associated with each platform, as well as uncover common themes across platforms. The analysis reveals that users primarily express concerns and preferences related to application usability, service mobility, and parking/accessibility. Additionally, each platform exhibits unique characteristics and challenges. Alpaca users generally appreciate convenience and enjoyment but express concerns about safety and service areas. SingSing faces issues with application functionality, while Kickgoing users encounter connectivity problems and device usability issues. Beam receives overall positive feedback, but users express dissatisfaction with application usability and parking. Based on these findings, scooter sharing service providers should focus on enhancing application features, stability, and expanding service coverage to meet user expectations and improve customer satisfaction. Furthermore, highlighting platform-specific strengths and providing tailored services can enhance competitiveness and foster continuous service growth and development.

  • In engineering structures, to having the projected structure to serve all the engineering purposes, the theory to be used during the modeling stage is also of great importance. In the present work, an analytical solution of the free vibration of the beam composed of functionally graded materials (FGMs) is presented utilizing different beam theories. The comparison of supposed beam theory for free vibration of functionally graded (FG) beam is examined. For this aim, Euler-Bernoulli, Rayleigh, Shear, and Timoshenko beam theories are employed. The functionally graded material properties are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness direction of the beam with respect to the volume fraction of constituents. The governing equations of free vibration of FG beams are derived in the frameworks of four beam theories. Resulting equations are solved versus simply supported boundary conditions, analytically. To verify the results, comparisons are carried out with the available results. Parametrical studies are performed for discussing the effects of supposed beam theory, the variation of beam characteristics, and FGM properties on the free vibration of beams. In conclusion, it is found that the interaction between FGM properties and the supposed beam theory is of significance in terms of free vibration of the beams and that different beam theories need to be used depending on the characteristics of the beam in question.

  • The objectives of this paper is to analyze the reinforced concrete structures by using fiber model. In this study, the fiber modeling techniques including modeling of support conditions are studied. In order to verify the modeling techniques, analysis results obtained for reinforced concrete cantilever beam and reinforced concrete T-girder bridge under cyclic loading are compared with experimental results from full scale test. From the comparison, it is shown that the modeling techniques in this study can be well applied to the nonlinear failure analysis of reinforced concrete structures with porper modifications.

  • A new technique is proposed for bridge structural damage detection based on spatial wavelet analysis of the time history obtained from vehicle body moving over the bridge, which is different from traditional detection techniques based on the bridge response. A simply-supported Bernoulli-Euler beam subjected to a moving spring-mass unit is established, with the crack in the beam simulated by modeling the cracked section as a rotational spring connecting two undamaged beam segments, and the equations of motion for the system is derived. By using the transfer matrix method, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the cracked beam are determined. The responses of the beam and the moving spring-mass unit are obtained by modal decomposition theory. The continuous wavelet transform is calculated on the displacement time histories of the sprung-mass. The case study result shows that the damage location can be accurately determined and the method is effective.

  • Recent advances in radiation transport algorithms, computer hardware performance, and parallel computing make the clinical use of Monte Carlo based dose calculations possible. Monte Carlo treatment planning requires accurate beam information as input to generate accurate dose distributions. The procedures to obtain this accurate beam information are called "commissioning", which includes accelerator head modeling. In this study, we would like to investigate how much accurately Monte Carlo based dose calculations can predict the measured beam data in various conditions. The Siemens 6MV photon beam and the BEAM Monte Carlo code were used. The comparisons including the percentage depth doses and off-axis profiles of open fields and wedges, output factors will be presented.
