To analyze laminated composite and sandwich beams under temperature loads, a $C^0$-type Reddy's beam theory considering transverse normal strain is proposed in this paper. Although transverse normal strain is taken into account, the number of unknowns is not increased. Moreover, the first derivatives of transverse displacement have been taken out from the in-plane displacement fields, so that the $C^0$ interpolation functions are only required for the finite element implementation. Based on the proposed model, a three-node beam element is presented for analysis of thermal responses. Numerical results show that the proposed model can accurately and efficiently analyze the thermoelastic problems of laminated composites.

Equations of motion of a multi-beam system undergoing overall rigid body motion are derived by employing finite element method. An orientation angle is employed to allow the arbitrary orientation o f the beam element. Modal coordinate reduction technique, which has been successfully utilized in the conventional linear modeling method, is employed for the present modeling method to reduce the computational effort. Different from the conventional linear modeling method, the present modeling method captures the motion-induced stiffness variations which are important for the dynamic analysis of structures undergoing overall rigid body motion. The numerical results are compared to those of a commercial program to verify the reliability of the present method.

Curved beam elements with two nodes based on shallow beam geometry and strain interpolations are employed in eigenvalue analysis. In these elements, the displacement interpolation functions and mass matrices are consistent with strain fields. To assess the quality of the element mass matrix in free vibration problems, several numerical experiments are performed. In these analysis, both the inconsistent mass matrices using linear displacement interpolation function and the consistent mass matrices are used to show the difference. The numerical results demonstrate that the accuracy is closely related to the property of the mass matrix as well as that of the stiffness matrix and that the mass matrix consistent with strain fields is very beneficial to eigenvalue analysis. Also, it is proved that the strain based elements are very efficient in a wide range of element aspect ratios and curvature properties.
A finite element analysis for a rotating cantilever beam is presented in this study. Based on a dynamic modelling method using the stretch deformation instead of the conventional axial deformation, three linear partial differential equations are derived from Hamilton's principle. Two of the linear differential equations show the coupling effect between stretch and chordwise deformations. The other equation is an uncoupled one for the flapwise deformation. From these partial differential equations and the associated boundary conditions, are derived two weak forms: one is for the chordwise motion and the other is for the flapwise motion. The weak forms are spatially discretized with newly defined two-node beam elements. With the discretized equations or the matrix-vector equations, the behaviours of the natural frequencies are investigated for the variation of the rotating speed.

In recent year, column member is used for square hollow section(5.H.5) and beam member is used for H-section. But 5.H.5 column has vulnerability because of low flexural stiffness between column and beam connection joints. To reinforce this vulnerability, 5.H.5 column filled with concrete and concrete slab connection compounded with H-beam is developed in many ways. In this paper, modelling of predicting behavior of various types of connections is studied using finite element method. k order to simulate the actual behavior, a three-dimensional modelling is used. A simple efficient contact algorithm with a new gap element is employed to simulate the interaction between 5.H.5 column and concrete, The modelling result$ are compared with the experimental results.
In this study, a 2-D finite element formulation in the frame of nonlocal integral elasticity is presented. Subsequently, the bending problem of a nanobeam under different types of loadings and boundary conditions is solved based on classical beam theory and also 3-D elasticity theory using nonlocal finite elements (NL-FEM). The obtained results are compared with the analytical and numerical results of nonlocal differential elasticity. It is concluded that the classical beam theory and the nonlocal differential elasticity can separately lead to significant errors for the problem under consideration as distinct from 3-D elasticity and nonlocal integral elasticity respectively.
This article presents the differential system that governs the mechanical behaviour of a curved-beam element, with varying cross-section area, subjected to generalized load. This system is solved by an exact procedure or by the application of a new numerical recurrence scheme relating the internal forces and displacements at the two end-points of an increase in its centroid-line. This solution has a transfer matrix structure. Both the stiffness matrix and the equivalent load vector are obtained arranging the transfer matrix. New structural matrices have been defined, which permit to determine directly the unknown values of internal forces and displacements at the two supported ends of the curved-beam element. Examples are included for verification.

In the vibration analysis of Timoshenko beams by the finite element method, it is necessary to use a large number of elements or higher-order elements in modeling thin beams. This is because the overestimated stiffness matrix due to the shear locking phenomenon when lower-order displacement-based elements are used yields poor eigensolutions. As a result, the total number of degrees of freedom becomes critical in view of computational efficiency. In this paper, the curvature-based formulation is applied to the vibration problem. It is shown that the curvaturebased beam elements are free of shear locking and very efficient in the vibration analysis.
In this study, an alternative solution procedure presented by using variational methods for analysis of shear deformable functionally graded material (FGM) beams with mixed formulation. By using the advantages of $G{\hat{a}}teaux$ differential approaches, a refined complex general functional and boundary conditions which comprises seven independent variables such as displacement, rotation, bending moment and higher-order bending moment, shear force and higher-order shear force, is derived for general thick-thin FGM beams via shear deformation beam theories. The mixed-finite element method (FEM) is employed to obtain a beam element which have a 2-nodes and total fourteen degrees-of-freedoms. A computer program is written to execute the analyses for the present study. The numerical results of analyses obtained for different boundary conditions are presented and compared with results available in the literature.
In this study, the effects of cross beams on the lateral distribution of live loads in composite rolled H-beam girder bridges, were investigated through three-dimensional finite element analysis. The parameters considered in this study were the inertial moment ratio between the main girder and the cross beam, the presence of the cross beam, and the number of cross beams. The live load lateral distribution factors were investigated through finite element analysis and the customary grid method. The results show that there was no difference between the bridge models with and without a cross beam. The cross beam of the beam and frame types also showed almost the same live load lateral distribution factors. However, the finite element analysis showed that the concrete slab deck plays a major role in the lateral distribution of a live load, and consequently, the effect of the cross beam is not so insignificant that it can be neglected.
