  • Carbon tips were grown on Si cantilevers by applying an electron beam to them directly with Scanning Electron Microscope. A carbon tip was fabricated by aligning the electron beam directly down the vertical axis of Si cantilever and then irradiating a single spot on the cantilever for a proper time in the dominant atmosphere of residual gases generated by the oil of the diffusion pump. A number of control parameters for SEM, including exposure time, acceleration voltage, emission current, and beam probe current, were allowed to make various aspect ratio feature. The growth of carbon tips was not affected by the surface morphology of substrates. We could acquired the tip whose effective length is 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, bottom diameter is 90 nm and cone half angle $3.5^{\circ}$ The growth technique of the high aspect ratio carbon tips on the tip-free cantilevers is available to reduce the complexities of fabricating sub-micron scale tips on the PZT thin film actuator integrated AFM cantilevers.

  • The development of the femtosecond laser (fs laser) with its ability to provide extremely rapid athermal ablation of materials has initiated a renaissance in materials science. Sample milling rates for the fs laser are orders of magnitude greater than that of traditional focused ion beam (FIB) sources currently used. In combination with minimal surface post-processing requirements, this technology is proving to be a game changer for materials research. The development of a femtosecond laser attached to a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope (LaserFIB) enables numerous new capabilities, including access to deeply buried structures as well as the production of extremely large trenches, cross sections, pillars and TEM H-bars, all while preserving microstructure and avoiding or reducing FIB polishing. Several high impact applications are now possible due to this technology in the fields of crystallography, electronics, mechanical engineering, battery research and materials sample preparation. This review article summarizes the current opportunities for this new technology focusing on the materials science megatrends of engineering materials, energy materials and electronics.

  • The core power control is an important issue for the study of dynamic characteristics in China initiative accelerator driven subcritical system (CiADS), which has direct impact on the control strategy and safety analysis process. The CiADS is an experimental facility that is only controlled by the proton beam intensity without considering the control rods in the current engineering design stage. In order to get the optimized operation scheme with the stable and reliable features, the variation of beam intensity using the continuous and periodic control approaches has been adopted, and the change of collimator and the adjusting of duty ratio have been proposed in the power control process. Considering the neutronics and the thermal-hydraulics characteristics in CiADS, the physical model for the core power control has been established by means of the point reactor kinetics method and the lumped parameter method. Moreover, the multi-inputs single-output (MISO) logical structure for the power control process has been constructed using proportional integral derivative (PID) controller, and the meta-heuristic algorithm has been employed to obtain the global optimized parameters for the stable running mode without producing large perturbations. Finally, the verification and validation of the control method have been tested based on the reference scenarios in considering the disturbances of spallation neutron source and inlet temperature respectively, where all the numerical results reveal that the optimization method has satisfactory performance in the CiADS core power control scenarios.

  • Radioactive isotopes which are manufactured using a cyclotron in a radioisotope used for radiation diagnosis is affected by the production yield according to size and shape of the beam and beam uniform degree from irradiated location when the proton beam investigated the target by cyclotron. Therefore, in this paper developed the BPM(Beam Profile Monitor) device capable of measuring the beam cross-section at the cyclotron beam line. It was configured so as to be able to remote control the BPM device in LabView and used the BPM program it was to be able to easily monitor and display to analyze the graph of two-dimensional graph and a three-dimensional beam distribution numerical information of the beam obtained while scanning the tungsten wire to the X and Y axis. The time it takes to measure the beam can be confirmed 37seconds when step motor driving speed was 2000pps. Through a beam readjusted based on the measured beam distribution information by optimizing the beam distribution it can be made to maximize the RI production yield and contribute supply stabilization.

  • For fast-built and safe precast concrete (PC) construction, the dry mechanical splicing method is a critical technique that enables a self-sustaining system (SSS) during construction with no temporary support and minimizes onsite jobs. However, due to limited experimental evidence, traditional wet splicing methods are still dominantly adopted in the domestic precast industry. For PC beam-column connections, the current design code requires achieving emulative connection performances and corresponding structural integrity to be comparable with typical reinforced concrete (RC) systems with monolithic connections. To this end, this study conducted the standard material tests on mechanical splices to check their satisfactory performance as the Type 2 mechanical splice specified in the ACI 318 code. Two PC beam-column connection specimens with dry mechanical splices and an RC control specimen as the special moment frame were subsequently fabricated and tested under lateral reversed cyclic loadings. Test results showed that the seismic performances of all the PC specimens were fully comparable to the RC specimen in terms of strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, drift capacity, and failure mode, and their hysteresis responses showed a mitigated pinching effect compared to the control RC specimen. The seismic performances of the PC and RC specimens were evaluated quantitatively based on the ACI 374 report, and it appeared that all the test specimens fully satisfied the seismic performance criteria as a code-compliant special moment frame system.

  • This paper presents the results cf research on improved flexural performance cf reinforced concrete beams strengthened with bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer plate. Recently, strengthening technique with CFRP plate were almost carried out by external bonding. But current external bonding technique cf CFRP plates may result in debonding CFRP plate. Therefore, this study proposes a strengthening method that prevents or delays debonding between CFRP plates and concrete and at the same time improves the strength. For this test, there were only 14 test beams manufactured and failure load, deflection, strains and modes cf failure have been examined Test variables included the type cf strengthening, steel ratio and strengthening length, and the effects according to each test variables were analyzed. The experimental results show that the strength and stiffness cf the beam significantly increased between 34.55 and 116.51% and the increase cf the more lead-carrying capacity than the control beams.

  • This paper deals with a uniform cantilever Euler-Bernoulli beam subjected to follower and transversal force at its free end as a model for a pipe conveying fluid under electromagnetic damper force. The electromagnetic damper is composed of a permanent-magnet DC motor, a ball screw and a nut. The main objective of the current work is to reduce the pipe vibration resulting from the fluid velocity and allow it to transform into electric energy. To pursue this goal, the stability and vibration of the beam model was studied using Ritz and Newmark methods. It was observed that increasing the fluid velocity results in a decrease in the motion of the free end of the pipe. The results of simulation showed that the designed semiactive electromagnetic damper controlled by on-off damping control strategy decreased the vibration amplitude of the pipe about 5.9% and regenerated energy nearly 1.9 (mJ/s). It was also revealed that the designed semi-active electromagnetic damper has better performance and more energy regeneration than the passive electromagnetic damper.

  • The bead shape in high frequency electric resistance (HER) pipe welding gives important information ons judging current welding state. In most manufacturing process, the heat input is controlled by skilled operators observing color and bead shape. We proposed the bead shape monitoring system in HERW pipe process by using structured light beam. We reconstructs 3-D shape of bead from the measured data, and compare this shape with real 3-D shape obtained by coordinate-measuring machine. This experiment results show that the proposed system can monitor the bead shape with good accuracy.

  • Application of piezoceramic materials in actuation and sensing of vibration is of current interest. Potential and more popular applications of piezoceramics are probably in the field of active vibration control. However, the objective of this work is to investigate the effect of shunted piezoceramics as passive vibration control devices when bonded to a host structure. Resistive shunting of a piezoceramic bonded to a cantilevered duralumin beam has been investigated. The piezoceramic is connected in parallel to an electrical network comprising of resistors and inductors. The piezoceramic is a capacitor that stores and discharges electrical energy that is transformed from the mechanical motion of the structure to which it is bonded. A resistor across the piezoceramic would be termed as a resistively shunted piezoceramic. Similarly, an inductor across the piezoceramic is termed as a resonantly shunted piezoceramic. In this study, the effect of resistive shunting on the nature of damping enhancement to the host structure has been investigated. Analytical studies are presented along with experimental results.
