Vertical Change in Extinction and Atmospheric Particle Size in the Boundary Layers over Beijing: Balloon-borne Measurement

  • Aerosol size and number concentration were observed in the atmospheric boundary layer over Beijing (from near the ground to 1,200 m) on March 15 (a clear day) and 16 (a dusty day), 2005. The results were further compared with lidar measurements in order to understand the dependency of extinction on the particle size distribution and their vertical changes. The boundary layer atmosphere was composed of several sub-layers, and a dry air layer appeared between 400 and 1,000 m under the influence of dust event. In this dry air layer, the concentration of the fine-mode particles (diameter smaller than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was slightly lower than the value on the clear day, while the concentration of coarse-mode particles (diameter larger than $1.0\;{\mu}m$) was remarkably higher than that on the clear day. This situation was attributed to the inflow of an air mass containing large amounts of Asian dust particles and a smaller amount of fine-mode particles. The results strongly suggest that the fine-mode particles affect light extinction even in the dusty atmosphere. However, quantitatively the relation between extinction and particle concentration is not satisfied under the dusty atmospheric conditions since laser beam attenuates in the atmosphere with high concentration of particles. Laser beam attenuation effect becomes larger in the relation between extinction and coarse particle content comparing the relation between extinction and fine particle content. To clarify this problem technically, future in situ measurements such as balloon-borne lidar are suggested. Here extinction was measured at 532 nm wavelength. Measurements of extinction at other wavelengths are desired in the future.

전산화 단층촬영 영상 분석에 의한 탄소/탄소 목삽입재의 밀도 분포 측정 (Density Profile Measurement of Needle-punched Carbon/Carbon Nozzle Throat by the Analysis of Computed Tomography Image)

  • 전산화 단층촬영법을 이용하여 탄소/탄소 목삽입재의 밀도 분포를 평가 하였다. 전산화 단층촬영 법의 Beam hardening, 전기적 잡음 및 산란 X-ray의 영상을 토정하고 신호 대 잡음비를 높여 최적화할 때 측정된 제작된 탄소/탄소 복합재료의 밀도는 98.74%의 신뢰도 수준에서 ${\pm}0.01g/cm^3$ 분포를 갖는 것으로 평가 되었다. 전산화 단층촬영 결과의 검증은 탄소/탄소 목삽입재를 절단하며 수침법에 의한 밀도 측정과 주사전자현미경 관찰을 통하여 수행되었으며 단층촬영결과는 수침법에 의한 밀도 분포와 주사전자현미경의 결과와 일치하였다.

  • 수동 소나 시스템에서는 신호대 잡음비의 향상, 표적의 방위 탐지 및 위치 데이터 산출, 간섭신호 제거 등을 위하여 지향성 빔을 만들어 사용한다. 주변환경이 복잡한 해양에서 저소음의 표적을 원거리에서 탐지하기 위해서는 지향성 빔의 특성을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 선형으로 배열된 센서에서 각 센서 쌍들의 상호상관 행렬을 이용한 SCCBF (Spatial Cross Correlation Beamforming) 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이상적인 조건하에서 제안된 SCCBF는 기존의 CBF (Conventional Beamforming)에 비해 배열 이득이 3 dB 이상 향상되고 표적의 탐지 방위 정확도를 나타내는 빔 폭이 CBF보다 0.5배 정도가 됨을 이론적으로 검증하고, 시뮬레이션을 통하여 이를 입증하였다. 또한 제안된 알고리즘을 적용한 선배열 수동 소나 시스템의 해상 시험 결과를 제시하였다.

CT performance phantom을 이용한 cone beam형 전산화단층영상의 특성 (Image characteristics of cone beam computed tomography using a CT performance phantom)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of (widely used) cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: Images were obtained with CT performance phantoms (The American Association of Physicists in Medicine; AAPM). CT phantom as the destination by using PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system (Asahi Roentgen Ind. Co., Ltd., Japan) and i-CAT CBCT (Imaging Science International Inc., USA) that have different kinds of detectors and field of view, and compared these images with the CT number for linear attenuation, contrast resolution, and spatial resolution. Results: CT number of both PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and i-CAT CBCT did not conform to the base value of CT performance phantom. The contrast of i-CAT CBCT is higher than that of PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system. Both contrasts were increased according to thickness of cross section. Spatial resolution and shapes of reappearance was possible up to 0.6 mm in PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and up to 1.0 mm in i-CAT CBCT. Low contrast resolution in region of low contrast sensitivity revealed low level at PSR $9000N^{TM}$ dental CT system and i-CAT CBCT. Conclusion: CBCT images revealed higher spatial resolution, however, contrast resolution in region of low contrast sensitivity was the inferiority of image characteristics.

X밴드 선박용 레이더를 이용한 강우 추정 (Rainfall Estimation by X-band Marine Radar)

  • X밴드 선박용 레이더를 이용하여 개발한 강우 추정 기술로 강우 사례를 검증하였다. 디지털 신호 변환기를 사용하여 선박용 레이더로부터 수신된 신호를 디지털 반사 정보로 변환하였다. 반사도 정보에서 지형클러터 신호를 제거하고, 빔 감쇠와 빔 부피의 변화에 의해 발생하는 오류를 보정 처리하였다. 처리된 반사 정보는 우량계 강우량과 선형적인 관계를 보였다. 레이더 신호를 직교좌표계로 변환하여 정량적 강우를 추정하였다. 자동기상관측소 세 지점에서 $5mm\;hr^{-1}$ 이상의 강우가 기록된 사례에서 선박용 레이더의 강우 분포는 기상청 운용 기상 레이더의 결과와 일치하였다.

Variable Optical Fiber Attenuator Using Bending-Sensitive Fiber

  • A variable optical attenuator with a bending-sensitive fiber (BSF) that can be used in optical networks is developed. The refractive index profile of the BSF is divided into four regions which are inner core, center dip of inner core, outer core and clad. The 3-dimensional finite difference beam propagation method (3D FD-BPM) is utilized to find the characteristics of the BSF, so the mode profile of the BSF and optical power attenuation according to the bending are investigated, and the equivalent model of the BSF is made. By using this equivalent model of the BSF, the BSF is fabricated, and the refractive index profile of the BSF is measured, which is similar to refractive index profile of the proposed BSF. The fabricated variable optical fiber attenuator (VOFA) consists of the BSF in a rectangular rubber ring with a fixed bend radius (BR) in a steady state. The VOFA using the proposed BSF was able to attenuate the optical power by more than about -38 ㏈ at certain wavelengths (1540∼1560 nm) based on adjusting the mechanical pressure applied to the upper surface of the rectangular rubber ring with the bent BSF. In addition, the proposed VOFA produced an insertion loss of 0.68 ㏈, polarization dependent loss (PDL) of about 0.5 ㏈, and return loss of less than -60 ㏈.

Piezoelectric shunt damping by synchronized switching on negative capacitance and adaptive voltage sources

  • Synchronized switch damping (SSD) techniques have recently been developed for structural vibration control using piezoelectric materials. In these techniques, piezoelectric materials are bonded on the vibrating structure and shunted by a network of electrical elements. These piezoelectric materials are switched according to the amplitude of the excitation force to damp vibration. This paper presents a new SSD technique called 'synchronized switch damping on negative capacitance and adaptive voltage sources' (SSDNCAV). The technique combines the phenomenon of capacitance transient charging and electrical resonance to effectively dampen the structural vibration. Also, the problem of stability observed in the previous SSD techniques is effectively addressed by adapting the voltage on the piezoelectric patch according to the vibration amplitude of the structure. Analytical expressions of vibration attenuation at the resonance frequency are derived, and the effectiveness of this new technique is demonstrated, for the control of a resonant cantilever beam with bonded piezoelectric patches, by comparing with SSDI, SSDVenh, and SSDNC techniques. Theoretical predictions and experimental results show the remarkable vibration damping capability of SSDNCAV technique, which was better than the previous SSD techniques. The broadband vibration control capabilities of SSDNCAV technique are also demonstrated, which exceed those of previous SSD techniques.

AIN 기판의 수동 소자 특성 (The Characteristic of Passive Elements on Aluminum Nitride Substrate)

  • 본 논문에서는 열전도도가 우수한 AIN 기판에 $CO_2$ Laser 장비 를 이용하여 Thru-hole과 scribing line을 형성하기 위해 $CO_2$ laser의 파라미터(촛점 거리, 공기량, 레이저 빔 시간, 펄스 개수)를 실험하고, 자체 정렬 마스킹 기법을 이용한 5 um 두께의 Cu 도금으로 AIN 기판에 전송 선로와 나선형 평면 인덕터를 제작하였다. AIN 기판에서의 마이크로스트립 라인의 전송 손실은 10 GHz에서 0.1 dB/mm, 6 nH 나선형 평면 인덕터는 1 GHz에서 56의 품질 계수를 얻었고, 이를 통해 열전도도가 우수한 AIN 기판의 고전력 RF 응용이 가능할 것으로 기대한다.

  • 탄성표면파 소자용 압전재료의 특성을 평가하여 최적 절단명과 전파방형을 결정하였다. 압전단결정 $LiTaO_4$에 대하여 Rayleigh파의 속도, 결합계수, 표면유전상수, 주파수-온도계수, 감쇠계수, 퓨어모드 전하, 빔 산란, 그리고 정열오차 감도 등의 항목들을 평가하였다. 이론적 계산 결과 Y절단면상의 X축 방향이 최적치로 나타났고, 이결과는 시럼에 의해 확인되었다. 본 논문의 평가방법은 여타 다른 압전재료들에도 동일하게 적용이 가능하다.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the properties change of electric wire when the thermal stress was applied to NFR-8 and FR-PVC 600[V] wire. Messurement is made of the attenuation of a light beam by smoke accumulating with in a closed chamber due to nonflaming pyrolytic decomposition and flaming combustion. Results are expressed in terms of specific optical density which is derived from a geometrical factor and the measured optical density a measurement characteristic of the concentration of smoke. Referenced documents were ASTM E662 standard test method for specific Ds genalated by solid materials. The furnace control system shall maintain the required irradiance level under steady-state condition with the chamber door closed of $2.5{\pm}0.04[w/cm^{2}]$ for 20 min. According to the results of the smoke density analysis of NFR-8 and FR-PVC the highest decomposition flaming smoke density range of NFR-8 and FR-PVC were 25.2 to 37.5 and 51.1 respectively. Nonflaming smoke density range of NFR-8 and FR-PVC were 100.4 to 112.2 and 126.5 to 398.8. The amount of carbon monoxide generated was found to be much higher in FR-PVC decomposition than in NFR-8 due to incomplete combustion of FR-PVC which has high content of carbon in compound.
