One commonly used approach to deal with uncertainty is Bayesian network which represents joint probability distributions of domain. There are some attempts to team the structure of Bayesian networks automatically and recently many researchers design structures of Bayesian network using evolutionary algorithm. However, most of them use the only one fittest solution in the last generation. Because it is difficult to combine all the important factors into a single evaluation function, the best solution is often biased and less adaptive. In this paper, we present a method of generating diverse Bayesian network structures through fitness sharing and combining them by Bayesian method for adaptive inference. In order to evaluate performance, we conduct experiments on learning Bayesian networks with artificially generated data from ASIA and ALARM networks. According to the experiments with diverse conditions, the proposed method provides with better robustness and adaptation for handling uncertainty.

We analyze the search space considered by the previously proposed R-CORE method for learning Bayesian network structures of large scale. Experimental analysis on the search space of the method is also shown. The R-CORE method reduces the search space considered for Bayesian network structures by recursively clustering the random variables and restricting the orders between clusters. We show the R-CORE method has a similar search space with the previous method in the worst case but has a much less search space in the average case. By considering much less search space in the average case, the R-CORE method shows less tendency of overfitting in learning Bayesian network structures compared to the previous method.

Background: The causal networks among genes that are commonly expressed in osteoblasts and during bone metastasis (BM) of breast cancer (BC) are not well understood. Here, we developed a machine learning method to obtain a plausible causal network of genes that are commonly expressed during BM and in osteoblasts in BC. Methods: We selected BC genes that are commonly expressed during BM and in osteoblasts from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Bayesian Network Inference with Java Objects (Banjo) was used to obtain the Bayesian network. Genes registered as BC related genes were included as candidate genes in the implementation of Banjo. Next, we obtained the Bayesian structure and assessed the prediction rate for BM, conditional independence among nodes, and causality among nodes. Furthermore, we reported the maximum relative risks (RRs) of combined gene expression of the genes in the model. Results: We mechanistically identified 33 significantly related and plausibly involved genes in the development of BC BM. Further model evaluations showed that 16 genes were enough for a model to be statistically significant in terms of maximum likelihood of the causal Bayesian networks (CBNs) and for correct prediction of BM of BC. Maximum RRs of combined gene expression patterns showed that the expression levels of UBIAD1, HEBP1, BTNL8, TSPO, PSAT1, and ZFP36L2 significantly affected development of BM from BC. Conclusions: The CBN structure can be used as a reasonable inference network for accurately predicting BM in BC.

The collapse of a slope or cut embankment brings much damage to life and property. Accordingly, it is very important to analyze the spatial distribution by calculating the landslide susceptibility in the estimation of the risk of landslide occurrence. The heuristic, statistic, deterministic, and probabilistic methods have been introduced to make landslide susceptibility maps. In many cases, however, the reliability is low due to insufficient field data, and the qualitative experience and knowledge of experts could not be combined with the quantitative mechanical?analysis model in the existing methods. In this paper, new modeling method for a probabilistic landslide susceptibility analysis combined Bayesian Network with ontology model about experts' knowledge and spatial data was proposed. The ontology model, which was made using the reasoning engine, was automatically converted into the Bayesian Network structure. Through conditional probabilistic reasoning using the created Bayesian Network, landslide susceptibility with uncertainty was analyzed, and the results were described in maps, using GIS. The developed Bayesian Network was then applied to the test-site to verify its effect, and the result corresponded to the landslide traces boundary at 86.5% accuracy. We expect that general users will be able to make a landslide susceptibility analysis over a wide area without experts' help.
Recently it is proposed that the Bayesian networks used as conversational agent for topic inference is useful but the Bayesian networks require much time to model, and the Bayesian networks also have to be modified when the scripts, the database for conversation, are added or modified and this hinders the scalability of the agent. This paper presents a method to improve the scalability of the agent by constructing the Bayesian network from scripts automatically. The proposed method is to model the structure of Bayesian networks hierarchically and to utilize Noisy-OR gate to form the conditional probability distribution table (CPT). Experimental results with ten subjects confirm the usefulness of the proposed method.
This paper investigates a RBF(Radial Basis Function) equalizer for channel equalization. RBF network has an identical structure to the optimal Bayesian symbol-decision equalizer solution. Therefore RBF can be employed to implement the Bayesian equalizer. Proposed algorithm of this paper makes channel states estimation to be unncessary, also makes center number which is needed indivisual channel to be minimum. Bayesian Equalizer has the theorical optimum performance. Proposed Equalizer performance is compared with this Baysian equalizer performance.

In general, the methods of the analysis of variance(ANOVA) for the continuous data and the chi-square test for the discrete data are used for statistical analysis of the effect and the association. In multidimensional data, analysis of hierarchical structure is required and statistical linear model is adopted. The structure of the linear model requires the normality of the data. A multidimensional categorical data analysis methods are used for causal relations, interactions, and correlation analysis. In this paper, Bayesian network model using probability distribution is proposed to reduce analysis procedure and analyze interactions and causal relationships in categorical data analysis.

It is show that increasing of aged and handicapped people requires development of Ubiquitous computing technique to offer the specialized service for handicapped-people. For this, we need a development of Context Awareness and Service Reasoning Technique that the technique is supplied interaction between user and U-environment instead of the old unilateral relation. The old research of context awareness needed probabilistic presentation model like a Bayesian Network based on expert Systems for recognize given circumstance by a domain of uncertain real world. In this article, we define a domain of disorder activity assistant service application and context model based on ontology in diversified environment and minimized intervention of user and developer. By use this context model, we apply the structure learning of Bayesian Network and decide the service and activity to development of application service for handicapped people. Finally, we define the proper Conditional Probability Table of the structured Bayesian Network and if random situation is given to user, then present state variable of Activity and Service by given Causal relation of Bayesian Network based on Conditional Probability Table and it can be result of context awareness.
Recently the study on service robots has been proliferated in many fields, and there are active developments for indoor services such as supporting for elderly people. It is important for robot to recognize objects and situations appropriately for effective and accurate service. Conventional object recognition methods have been based on the pre-defined geometric models, but they have limitations in indoor environments with uncertain situation such as the target objects are occluded by other ones. In this paper we propose a Bayesian network model to reason the probability of target objects for effective detection. We model the relationships between objects by activities, which are applied to non-static environments more flexibly. Overall structure is constructed by combining common-cause structures which are the units making relationship between objects, and it makes design process more efficient. We test the performance of two Bayesian networks for verifying the proposed Bayesian network model through experiments, resulting in accuracy of $86.5\%$ and $89.6\%$ respectively.
Vision-based scene understanding is to infer and interpret the context of a scene based on the evidences by analyzing the images. A probabilistic approach using Bayesian networks is actively researched, which is favorable for modeling and inferencing cause-and-effects. However, it is difficult to gather meaningful evidences sufficiently and design the model by human because the real situations are dynamic and uncertain. In this paper, we propose a learning method of Bayesian network that reduces the computational complexity and enhances the accuracy by searching an efficient BN structure in spite of insufficient evidences and training data. This method represents the domain knowledge as ontology and builds an efficient hierarchical BN structure under constraint rules that come from the ontology. To evaluate the proposed method, we have collected 90 images in nine types of circumstances. The result of experiments indicates that the proposed method shows good performance in the uncertain environment in spite of few evidences and it takes less time to learn.
