The efficient node-energy utilization in wireless sensor networks has been studied because sensor nodes operate with limited power based on battery. To extend the lifetime of the wireless sensor networks, maintaining balanced power consumption between sensor nodes is more important than reducing total energy consumption of the overall network. Since a large number of sensor nodes are densely deployed and collect data by cooperation in wireless sensor network, keeping more sensor nodes alive as possible is important to extend the lifetime of the sensor network. In this paper, we submit an efficient energy aware routing protocol based on AODV ad hoc routing protocol for wireless sensor networks to increase its lifetime without degrading network performance. The proposed protocol is designed to avoid traffic congestion on minor specific nodes at data transfer and to make the node power consumption be widely distributed to increase the lifetime of the network. The performance of the proposed protocol has been examined and evaluated with the NS-2 simulator in terms of network lifetime and end-to-end delay.
The efficient node energy utilization is one of important performance factors in wireless sensor networks because sensor nodes operate with limited battery power. To extend the lifetime of the wireless sensor networks, maintaining balanced power consumption between sensor nodes is more important than reducing each energy consumption of the sensor node in the network. In this paper, we proposed a cluster formation algorithm to extend the lifetime of the networks and to maintain a balanced energy consumption of nodes. To obtain it, we add a tiny slot in a round frame, which enables to exchange the residual energy messages between the base station (BS). cluster heads, and nodes. The performance of the proposed protocol has been examined and evaluated with the NS 2 simulator. As a result of simulation, we have confirmed that our proposed algorithm show the better performance in terms of lifetime than LEACH. Consequently, our proposed protocol can effectively extend the network lifetime without other critical overhead and performance degradation.

The characteristics of the Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system are faster response, longer life time, more economical, and environment friendly than other Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) using battery. Fast charge and discharge time of SMES system can provide powerful performance of improving power quality in the grid. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of SMES, the authors make a 10kJ SMES system for connection with RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator). Because the characteristics of superconducting magnet are very important in SMES system, the necessary items such as thermal characteristic, mechanical stress and protection circuit should be considered. In this paper, the authors experimented thermal characteristics of the 10kJ SMES system. The experiment was accomplished using a simulation coils made of aluminium. It has same dimension of the 10kJ class HTS SMES coil. The coil was cooled with GM (Gifford -McMahon) cryocooler through the OFHC (Oxgen Free High thermal Conductivity) conduction bar. The test results of cool down and heat loads characteristics of the simulation coils are described in detail.

For OBC (On-Board Charger) and LDC (Low DC-DC Converter) used as essential power conversion systems of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), system performance is required as well as reliability, which is need to protect the vehicle and driver from various faults. While current development processor is sufficient for embodying functions and verifying performance in normal state during development of prototypes for OBC and LDC, there is no clear method of verification for various fault situations that occur in abnormal state and for securing stability of vehicle base, unless verification is performed by mounting on an actual vehicle. In this paper, a CCM (Charger Converter Module) was developed as an integrated structure of OBC and LDC. In addition, diverse fault situations that can occur in vehicles are simulated by a simulator to artificially inject into power conversion system and to test whether it operates properly. Also, HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) is carried out to verify whether LDC is operated properly under power environment of an actual vehicle.

Routing in mobile ad hoc networks is performed in a distributed fashion where each node acts as host and router, such that it forwards incoming packets for others without relying on a dedicated router. Nodes are mostly resource constraint and the users are usually inclined to conserve their resources and exhibit selfish behaviour by not contributing in the routing process. The trust and reputation models have been proposed to motivate selfish nodes for cooperation in the packet forwarding process. Nodes having bad trust or reputation are detected and secluded from the network, eventually. However, due to the lack of proper identity management and use of non-persistent identities in ad hoc networks, malicious nodes can pose various threats to these methods. For example, a malicious node can discard the bad reputed identity and enter into the system with another identity afresh, called whitewashing. Similarly, a malicious node may create more than one identity, called Sybil attack, for self-promotion, defame other nodes, and broadcast fake recommendations in the network. These identity-based attacks disrupt the overall detection of the reputation systems. In this paper, we propose a reputation-based scheme that detects selfish nodes and deters identity attacks. We address the issue in such a way that, for normal selfish nodes, it will become no longer advantageous to carry out a whitewash. Sybil attackers are also discouraged (i.e., on a single battery, they may create fewer identities). We design and analyse our rationale via game theory and evaluate our proposed reputation system using NS-2 simulator. The results obtained from the simulation demonstrate that our proposed technique considerably diminishes the throughput and utility of selfish nodes with a single identity and selfish nodes with multiple identities when compared to the benchmark scheme.

In this paper, we propose enhanced wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance for portable electronic device charging. Resonators were designed and fabricated for efficiency improvement and miniaturization through electromagnetism simulation using HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Impedance matching network is employed to minimize reflections that is caused by difference between input impedance and output impedance. Receiver IC that consist of rectifier and Low Drop Out(LDO) regulator were designed and fabricated to reduce power loss. This chip is implemented in $0.35{\mu}m$ BCD technology. A maximum overall efficiency of 73.8% is determined for the system through experimental verification.

Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) have shown a lot of good outcomes in providing a various functions depending on industrial expectations by deploying ad-hoc networking with helps of light loaded and battery powered sensor nodes. In particular, it is strongly requested to develop an algorithm of cross-layer control between 2-layer and 3-layer to deriver the sensing data from the end node to the sink node on time. In this paper, based on the above observation we have proposed an IEEE802.15.4 based self priority routing scheme under UC Berkely TinyOS platform. The proposed beacon based priority routing (BPR) algorithm scheme utilizes beacon periods in sending message with embedding the high priority data and thus provides high quality of service(QoS) in the given criteria. The performance measures are the packet Throughput, delivery, latency, total energy consumption. Simulation results under TinyOS Simulator(TOSSIM) have shown the proposed scheme outcome the conventional Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector(AODV) Routing.

WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) performs to detect and collect environmental information for one purpose. As examples, WSN is applicable for home network, patient management of a hospital, logistics management, status detection during the war and so on. The WSN is composed of a sink node and several sensor nodes and has a constraint in an aspect of energy consumption caused by limited battery resource. So many required mechanisms in WSN should consider the remained energy condition. A routing mechanism is requested to deliver the collected information to a sink considering energy efficiency in WSN. There have been many researches to establish (a) route(s) for data delivery to the sink. In this paper, we propose establishment of efficient routes. We proposed a uniform routing mechanism together with considering energy efficiency. For the routing, we define energy probability as routing metrics information and Performs suppression of exchange of control messages. In addition, we derive to uniformly consume the energy of the sensor node when establishing the routes. Also, we evaluate and analyze the energy efficiency for proposed mechanisms through NS-2 simulator.

In MANET, AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) has its advantages as on-demand approach but it also has a disadvantage that the control packet overhead is high compared to other routing protocols. This paper improves the problem caused by Hello messages that are broadcasted periodically to detect the local connectivity and maintain neighbor list. Periodic hello messages reduce the Packet delivery ratio and the efficiency in the limited bandwidth. And its increased Control packet overhead leads to decrease the Residual battery capacity and the Network lifetime. Further, non-reactive nature of periodic hello messages in AODV has also been the source of numerous controversies. In order to solve these problems, this paper improves the performance by using the interrupt driven approach which removes periodic hello messages and decreases the Control packet overhead. Performance comparisons between the traditional AODV and proposed mod_AODV done with network simulator QualNet 5.0 show that the mod_AODV performs better in most performance metrics under scenarios with various values of simulation parameters.
