원통형 셀을 이용한 자동차용 배터리팩 냉각해석 (Cooling CFD Analysis of a Car Batter Pack with Circular Cells)

  • 원통형 리튬이온 배터리를 이용한 배터리 팩의 냉각을 위한 해석을 수행하였다. 파우치형에 비해서 원통형 셀을 이용한 배터리 팩은 저렴하면서 신뢰도가 우수한 것으로 알려져 있다. 단지 부피가 파우치 타입에 비해서 크고 디자인적으로 제약이 있다라는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 18650 배터리를 이용한 배터리팩의 냉각성능을 해석을 통하여 예측하였다. 배터리팩의 온도 안정성은 자동차용 배터리 팩에서 가장 중요한 부분이기 때문이다. 해석을 수행하기 전에 발열 시험을 수행하였으며 열화상 카메라를 이용하여 온도를 측정하고 해석을 통해서 이에 해당하는 발열량 값을 예측하였다. 이를 바탕으로 배터리 팩의 자연대류와 강제대류 해석을 진행하였으며 각각의 냉각 성능을 비교하였다. 배터리 셀을 직접 냉각하는 직접냉각 방식, 배터리 케이스 상하면을 냉각하는 방식, 배터리 케이스 상하면에 공기 통로를 설치하는 세 가지 방식에 대해서 냉각 성능을 비교하였고, 공기채널 방식이 안정성과 냉각성능 면에서 우수함을 해석을 통하여 입증하였다.

  • The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) utilized in Honda's Civic Hybrid Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system was developed with the aim of making every component lighter, more compact and more efficient than those in the former model. To reduce energy loss, inverter efficiency was increased by fine patterning of the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) chips, 12V DC-DC converter efficiency was increased by utilizing soft-switching, and the internal resistance of the IMA battery was lowered by modifying the electrodes and the current collecting structure. These improvements reduced the amount of heat generated by the unit components and made it possible to combine the previously separated Power Control Unit (PCU) and battery cooling systems into a single system. Consolidation of these two cooling circuits into one has reduced the volume of the newly developed IPU by 42% compared to the former model.

  • Recently, the study of energy saving technology of ships begins in earnest, as energy saving policies are performed all around the world. SEMS (Ship Energy Management System) is one of the techniques to increase energy efficiency by applying to a independent system like a ship and offshore. SEMS is composed of Cooling Pump Control System (CPCS), Renewable Energy Emergency Power Control System (REEPCS), Load Control System (LCS), and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System (HVACS). SEMS is enable to increase energy efficiency and achieve integrated management through the interlocking of each system. Especially, it is possible to improve the flexibility of the selection of the generator capacity in conjunction with a rechargeable battery and renewable energy. In this paper, SEMS applied rechargeable battery is proposed and simulated. By applying the rechargeable battery, it was confirmed that SEMS applied rechargeable battery can be operated at optimum efficiency of the generator.

  • To reduce vehicle fuel consumption due to not only driving but also air conditioning, battery-operated non-starting conditioning systems with thermoelectric modules and without mechanical elements like compressors are being manufactured for use by hybrid heavy trucks in the near future. In this study, the voltage and current consumed by a thermoelectric module were measured to determine the required battery power, and the performance of the conditioning system with air temperature, and humidity of the inlet/outlet modules and inside/outside the cabin for a truck, was evaluated using experimental apparatus under actual conditions. The results showed that, the thermoelectric module can be continously operated for about 1.5 h using existing 24 V batteries. The coefficent of performance(COP) of the cooling and heating modes was calculated to be an average 0.8-1.32. As expected, the heating performance was 30% more efficient than the cooling performance, which is general characteristic of thermoelectric modules.

  • Energy storage system connected to the grid has two functions such as the surplus power of a grid is stored in batteries or the energy stored in batteries will supply to the grid when the grid needs. The battery energy storage system consist of power condition system (PCS) for power supply and battery conditioning system (BCS). Lithium-ion batteries are mainly used. In this paper, the battery energy storage system connected to the grid described. The configuration of the 2MVA class power control system using water cooling and battery system are presented. And control method for the system and the output filter design method are proposed. Experimental verification of the proposed system is provided with 2MVA PCS and 500kWh BCS.

착용형 개인 냉방시스템 개발 (Development of the Wearable Personal Cooling System)

  • 본 논문은 더위나 고온의 환경에서 열적스트레스를 줄이기 위한 착용형 개인 냉방시스템 개발에 관한 것이다. 개인 냉방시스템은 냉매압축 냉동사이클로 작동되는 소형 냉동시스템이 적용되었다. 소형 냉동시스템은 이동과 착용이 가능하도록 소형화와 경량화에 맞게 구성되었다. 증발기는 나일론튜브를 사용하여 조끼 내부에 매립하여 열전도에 의해 신체 열을 저감시키는 직접냉각방식이 적용되었다. 착용형 개인 냉방시스템은 냉방능력은 대략 100W이며 주위온도보다 12~$13^{\circ}C$ 정도 낮게 유지되는 성능을 가진다. 착용형 개인 냉방시스템의 무게는 조끼, 케이스, 배터리를 포함하여 약 3kg이다.

  • This paper analyzes switching losses, efficiency and temperature depending on Si and SiC devices applied in two stage AC-DC converter. To evaluate the charge and discharge performance and stability of the battery pack, there is a need for a battery pack testing system. To do battery charge and discharge experiment used in battery pack test, A topology, two stage AC-DC converter, has been built. SiC devices more decrease switching losses than that of Si. Also, cooling system was applied in Si and SiC devices. When using SiC devices, it can be confirmed that the size of heat sink is reduced for small loss.

전기 자동차 가상 플랫폼용 배터리 모델 개발 및 검증 (Development of a Battery Model for Electric Vehicle Virtual Platform)

  • In this paper, a battery model for electric vehicle virtual platform was developed. A battery model consisted of a battery cell model and battery thermal management system. A battery cell model was developed based on Randles equivalent circuit model. Circuit parameters in the form of 3D map data was obtained by charge-discharge experiment of Li-Polymer battery in various temperature condition. The developed battery cell model was experimentally verified by comparing voltages. Thermal management system model was also developed using heat generator, heat transfer and convection model, and cooling fan. For verification of the developed battery model in vehicle level, the integrated battery model was applied in to EV(electric vehicle) virtual platform, and virtual driving simulation using UDDS velocity profile was conducted. The accuracy of the developed battery model has been verified by comparing the simulation results from EV platform with the experimental data.

Effects of Corrosion Inhibitor on Corrosion of Al-based Alloys in Ethylene Glycol-Water Coolant Environment

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) as a corrosion inhibitor on the pitting corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys used in electric vehicle battery cooling systems within a mixture of ethylene glycol and water (EG-W) coolant. Potentiodynamic polarization testing revealed unstable passive film formation on the aluminum alloys in the absence of SDBS. However, the addition of SDBS resulted in a robust passive film, enhancing the pitting corrosion resistance across all examined alloys. Pitting corrosion was predominantly observed near intermetallic compounds in the presence of Cl? ions, which was attributed to galvanic interactions. Among tested alloys, A1040 demonstrated superior resistance due to its lower areal fraction of precipitates and donor density. The incorporation of SDBS inhibitors mitigated the overall pitting corrosion process by hindering Cl? ion penetration. These findings suggest that SDBS can significantly improve pitting corrosion resistance in aluminum alloys employed in battery coolant environments.
