  • In this paper, UPS, which is embedded in computer, is developed against the poor utility power system. In the developed system, PIC16C74A is used as the main controller, and UPS system consists of micom control module, power failure detecting module, charging module, power module, synchronous transfer module, and GUI module. Additionally, GUI module consists of battery charging state unit, power operating unit and operating state unit.

  • This paper is on the development of a auxiliary power supply for the coach of Indian Railways. The auxiliary power supply system supplies the power for air-conditioners, air-compressors, lighting equipments, controllers, etc. It converts the input voltage, DC 110V which is supplied from battery, to AC 3${\Phi}$ 415V of 30kVA capacity. This is a low voltage-high current type converter system and largely consists of boost chopper and 3 phase inverter. Adopting a optimal control algorithm and simple power circuit, we realized the more reliable and competitive system for satisfaction of Indian Railway's strict requirement for vibration, temperature and dust. We completed the design, the manufacture and the field test of the system successfully and proved the system performance and reliability as a result of those tests.

Design of a Fuel Cell Power Conditioning System for Online Diagnosis and Load Leveling

  • A fuel cell power conditioning system for online diagnosis and load leveling under the condition of varying load is developed in this study. The proposed system comprises a unidirectional boost converter and a bidirectional buck-boost converter with a battery. The system operates in two different modes. In normal mode, the bidirectional converter is utilized for load leveling; in diagnostic mode, it is utilized to control load voltage while the boost converter generates perturbation current to implement the online diagnosis function through in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The proposed method can perform EIS for a fuel cell under varying-load conditions with no influence on the load. The validity and feasibility of the proposed system are verified by experiments, and the design procedure of the proposed system is detailed.

  • The utility grid has a supply of electric energy which is larger than the usually required power consumption under peak load condition. So, power distribution is required to have a heavy capacity because of peak-load period. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a 10kW rapid charger system which has a function of load compensation at the peak-load condition. The proposed system supplies power demanded by peak-load through transferring energy in the battery of electric vehicle to the grid. V2G operation is verified through simulation performed by 10kW rapid-charger.

  • Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques are used in photovoltaic systems to maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the maximum power point which depends on panels temperature and on irradiance conditions. This paper proposes a variable step size MPPT algorithm which can improve the MPPT speed and accuracy. Depending on insolation and temperature, the MPPT controller gives optimized step size. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified thorough PSIM simulation and experiments on a 50[W] prototype. The experimental results confirm that the PV power of the improved P&O method is higher than that of the traditional P&O method.

  • According to miniaturization trend of rehabilitation medical equipment such as hearing aid, study to replace previous complex system with semiconductor SOC (System-on-Chip) chip becomes lively. In this study, after investigating of existent hearing aid performance in circuit design approach, low electric power consuming, single power supply (1.4V battery) CMOSS OP AMP was designed. Analog circuit design tools such as Hspice and Cadence were used for circuit simulation and implementing layout design. This study shows technical methods particularly for layout design. The work is done in pmos and nmos active element layout design in addition to passive element design such as resister, capacitor and inductor.

  • In this paper, the power electronics requirement and the controls of an induction motor for fuel cell electric vehicle system are presented. The power topology is selected based on performance, cost, size, volume, manufacturability, component count and simplicity. Another highlight of the topology is the reduction of battery bank and its control strategy. The proposed approach consists a full-bridge DC/DC converter to boost the fuel cell voltage. The induction motor operated with vector control is driven by a three-phase PWM inverter supplied by the DC-link voltage. The investigation of the electric vehicle performed due to parameter variation of the induction motor has been presented.

  • The solar array regulator for low earth orbit satellites controls a operating point of solar array for suppling electric power to the battery and the other units. Because the control object is reversed, the new approach for large and small signal analysis is needed despite using buck-converter for power stage. In this paper, the steady state analysis of solar array regulator is performed in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode, and the border condition for each mode is established. Also, the small signal model of solar array regulator is established in discontinuous conduction mode. Experiments are carried on in worst condition which the solar array regulator can face with discontinuous conduction mode. The results show that the solar array regulator is in stable.

  • In this paper, a peak detection algorithm having high reliability is proposed. The peak detection algorithm is implemented to a charger and power control system which is applicable to home appliances or notebook PC directly. The charger and power control system is controlled by a microprocessor, M50927 (Mitzubishi), to improve cost to performance ratio. The charger algorithm is designed to be operated under optimal charge node and various protections are added tn improve the reliability of the charger.

  • This paper presents a DC/DC LLC resonant converter with wide input/output voltage gain characteristics and its control method for efficiency improvement. For a wide input/output voltage gain characteristics without designing small transformer magnetization inductance, the proposed converter changes the topology into three modes of operation according to the main switch switching pattern. In each operating mode, variable LINK voltage modulation and frequency modulation were performed to control output voltage and improve operating efficiency. A prototype of a 5-kW DC/DC LLC resonant converter was built and tested to verify the validity and applicability of the proposed converter.
