The purpose of this study is to analyze the recent trend color of bathroom based on analysis result of digital color image processing, to analyze the emotional color of that, and to suggest the harmony color combination for the bathroom. It leads to the two final results. That is, the main color of bathroom image is recognized as three color classifications such as YR-Y, Y-GY, PB-P, 2) from the point of emotional aspect, the trend color of the bathroom can be classified into four image categories: 'modern', 'mild', 'elegant', 'natural'. Finally, under these categories, this paper propose 12 color harmony schema which can be applied to color in, especially bathroom Interior design.
The purpose of this research was to grasp the space funtions, the preferred image in bathroom and to find out the plan of bathroom. The subjects of investigation included university students in third decades of which data were obtained by the questionnaire survey method. The major findings were as follows: 1) The space funtions of bathroom were the hygienic activities and the supplementary funtions as resting and health-care. 2) Total and facility image in bathroom take a serious view of a sanitary, a function and following to a mood , a sense of space. 3) The preferred type of bathrooms were identified as the 2-space type. Furthermore, the demands were needed in radiator & pannel heating system, storing furniture and funtional lighting & mirror. According to those results, three types of space plan for bathroom can be suggested and color & forms of design elements can be proposed.
This user-centered research aims to empirically evaluate color temperature (K) and illuminance (lx) of residential bathroom lightings to determine the most optimal lighting conditions for productive task performance as well as for satisfying users' emotional needs. Using 3 LED lighting fixtures, 4 types of lighting contexts were investigated; main lighting, task lighting, shower lighting, and bath lighting. Two lightings were installed parallel to the vertical edges of the main bathroom mirror to be used as main and task lighting, while another fixture was installed above the bathtub to be used for shower and bathing. For each lighting context, subjects (N=54) were instructed to perform a few tasks during which time the users were exposed to different lighting conditions with color temperature ranging from 2700 K ~ 6500 K and illuminance ranging from 100 lx ~ 700 lx. Upon completing the given tasks, subjects were asked to evaluate the lighting conditions and their applicability for performing the given tasks. Based on the user evaluations, the most optimal lighting conditions for the different lighting scenarios are as follow: 1) 3500 K ~ 4300 K and 150 lx for main lighting, 2) 3500 K ~ 4300 K and 500 lx ~ 700 lx for task lighting, and 3) 2700 K ~ 3500 K and 100 lx ~ 150 lx for shower/bath lighting. These results can be used to adjust the lighting standards suggested by KS, as well as be utilized by both engineers and designers in designing new types of user-centered bathroom lightings.
As the needs of housing for the elderly has increased, many researches have been carried out and some housing projects for the elderly including nursing home began to be provided. Most researches have focused on the development of housing type or space layout and only several ones on interior design. The interior design in house influences physically or psychologically on the elderly who lives in. Also, the subject of them which examined the needs or preference for housing for the elderly were the middle-aged, not the aged. The purpose of the study was to examine the preferred characteristics of interior design in residential space by the elderly. The structured interview with 120 old persons who lived in Busan was carried out using by a questionnaire and 3D images. The elderly answered about the preferred interior style, color, lighting and interior finishes of each room in house, such as living room, master bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. On the basis of the findings, the characteristics of interior design of each room in house which the elderly preferred were presented. In general, they preferred the mixed interior style with tradition and modem. Also, the reddish and purple interior color, flower or plant patterned wall finishes, and wood floor were preferred in living room and master bedroom by the elderly. This study was intended to suggest that new small-sized apartment houses should be designed and provided on the base of the concept of universal design. This is based on the diversity of each resident, that is, resident of not as a family, but as an individual. On the background of this, this study evaluated the small-sized apartment house in aspects of universal design. The walk-through and the residents' evaluation were carried out by using 60 items related to the principles of universal design. The 18 pyung apartment complex and housing unit in Jangyou new town area was evaluated. Also, 100 residents living in that apartment housing unit were asked to evaluate these 60 items by using 5 point Likert scale. The walk-through with measuring and taking pictures was carried out by researchers. In general, the apartment house was not met the fundamental elements of universal design. Thus, it was not appropriate for the disabled or the elderly to live in. Specially, the door width of bathroom and kitchen balcony was too narrow to pass through. Also, the floor of entrance and bathroom was not flat, so that the wheelchair user cannot enter by alone. The residents evaluated negatively many items related to design, such as shape, color, and material. Therefore, in order to provide the living environments for diverse residents such as the elderly, or the disabled to live together, the new small-sized apartment houses should be designed on the base of the principles of universal design.
This study suggested a way to compose a flexible environment capable of meeting the needs of various users from the aged people to challenged people, and ordinary people by applying the concept of universal design. The purpose of this study was to develop a more convenient environment by deriving the best size and color for each subject and constructing a detailed design platform for each module. For this, the concept of universal design as well as the current bathroom designs were examined and various users were analyzed prior to developing the design. A virtual environment was prepared based on the results and its usability was evaluated in two phases with various users including the aged people, challenged people, and ordinary people. As a result, it received quite a favorable evaluation from users, over 90 out of 100 in average, which can be regarded as a proof that it is differentiated from existing bathrooms. This study may lead to the change in the paradigm of bathroom in residential space, development of safer and comfortable domestic environment, and the enhancement of the quality of healthy life through the development of a design platform for each module that provides new experiences to various users. It is hoped that these modular systems are continuously studied not only for bathrooms but also for various residential spaces where people can stay.
The exterior color of the building reflects its style. With the advancement of the 'Village Art' project in South Korea, many villages have gradually developed into tourist attractions. Therefore, it is also important to distinguish between residents' lifestyles and tourist needs through architectural color design. This article first investigates the literature and analyzes the use function of the building and the role of the exterior color in the villages. Secondly, the four types of buildings in Huinnyeoul Culture Village: residential, commercial, leisure, and public toilets are investigated as the research objects. Analyze through the KSCA color measurement analysis system and questionnaire survey, and propose a color plan for the exterior of the building. Research results: First, the main color area of the outer wall of the residential building should be the largest, with a tendency of high brightness and low saturation. Second, small buildings with high chroma in the recreation area can be used as visual guidance.Third, the buildings in the commercial area are mainly of high brightness, high chroma, and multi-hue. Fourth, the main color of the bathroom is the main color of the residential area and the leisure area, which can provide a sense of visual stability.

This study aims at exploring the characteristics of interior design of the Cruise line running Korea, Japan and China, and the satisfaction level of the Korean passengers for the interior design. Literature review and the physical traces of the cruise ship interior including 4 types of cabins and public spaces such as main hall, restaurants, outdoor swimming pool, jogging track, theater, meeting room, duty-free shop were performed. Also, the questionnaire to the passengers were used to understand their preferences and satisfaction level for each space. The results show that the passengers are very satisfied with the color and atmosphere of the cabin, while they complain the inconvenience of the bathroom size. Also in the public space, they prefer western classic style and modern style rather than Asian or Korean style. This means that they want the exotic feeling coming out of home. Also they prefer buffet restaurant, duty-free shop, theater, observation platform compared to other public spaces. However, the problem is that there are no place for the Korean family members with young children except for the outdoor pool. The interior and the program should be redesigned for the public spacs such as cinema room, family karaoke and internet-free room for Korean passengers.
Demands for geriatric hospital have increased in an era of rapidly aging population. Most of aged patients tend to stay in institutions for long terms. This means that the patient rooms of geriatric hospital should be given different considerations from those of normal hospital in designing interior features. They should be a homelike places for the aged patients and designed to take care of specific needs of the aged. However, most of geriatric hospitals are designed with little attention to such point. They appear almost same to normal ones. This study attempts to examine how users evaluate patients' rooms. The users are nurses, care-givers and family members of aged patients in six geriatric hospitals in Busan. They rated 12 features of patient rooms from 0 point to 100 points and described reasons why they rated in that way. Also, the walk-through was done for these six hospitals. 12 features are sizes of patient rooms, sizes and fixtures of bathrooms, sizes and locations of windows, bed layout, numbers and types of chairs, sizes and types of closet, lighting, color scheme, finishes of floor and wall, and interior design tone. Followings are findings : The users evaluated patients' rooms relatively positive. However, extra chairs for visitors, closet in patients rooms and storage in bathroom, and sizes of patients rooms and bathrooms were evaluated relatively negative.
