  • We present a novel photo-addressable electronic paper using an electrophoretic device, which can show and sustain the 2D images transferred by the UV illumination. The device consists of the organic photoconducting layer reacting with the UV illumination and the electronic ink (white particles and blue dye) dispersing in a suspending medium. The voltage impression under illuminating of UV make an image be transferred to the electrophoretic cell. The transferred image can be maintained by the bistability of the electrophoretic device.

  • The polymer encapsulation of white inorganic $TiO_2$ pigment particles was prepared by a two stage dispersion polymerization technique for applications in electrophoretic displays (EPDs). In order to give functionality for inorganic pigment particles in the EPD, we have investigated the density of the polymer encapsulated $TiO_2$ particles. The average density of the polymer encapsulated $TiO_2$ particles was 2.2 at 25$^{\circ}C$. The average density of the polymer encapsulated $TiO_2$ particles is suitable to 1.7, due to density matching with suspending media. Therefore, we will attempt density compatibility of dispersion polymerization technique for encapsulation of $TiO_2$ particles in suspending media.

  • In this study, we have investigated a simple process of preparation of white pigment particles by physical coating with functionalized wax for the electrophoretic display. We will discuss, especially, the implementation of bistable pigment providing high mobility by using unique charge control agent and also optical properties of wax coated $TiO_2$ particles.

  • Recently the government expands its investment in basic research to overcome the limit of technology catch-up strategy. At this point, Korea's R&D supporting system needs to be evaluated whether it is appropriate to support creative basic research. Therefore, this study approaches to analyze the cases of basic research supporting system about the characteristics of basic research and necessary systematic requirements. This research discussed the necessity for introducing the paradigm of policy management system of basic research. Also it found that the performance of basic research is very important element for the effectiveness of research itself as well as continuous appropriacy of the system.

  • This study analyzes the improvement of absorptive capacity by basic research and the mediating effect of applied research to the innovations in the semiconductor industry. With 103 firms in the last 20 years tested firstly, applied research gives a more significant effect than basic research on the innovations. Secondly applied research functions as complete mediating effect between basic research and technological innovations. We also confirms high-performing firms are active in basic research to overcome technological hurdles. This paper suggests that basic research is needed as well as applied research. This study also implies strategic partnership and joint research with universities which have more suitable environment for basic research are needed in a long-term.
