The popularity of flat-panel display(FPD), including plasma display panel(PDP) and liquid-crystal display(LCD), has given rise to the need to streamline their production. In these days, PDP is one of the most popular display devices because of its expansion of manufacturing process and simplicity. Bus electrodes, sustain electrodes, barrier ribs and RGB phosphors are patterned on PDP panel to display an image. Since a minute damage on the pattern can cause a serious defect to display, it is important to inspect the pattern precisely. In this paper, an automatic inspection system of repeated pattern in PDP panel has been introduced to find the defect, such as open, short, dirt, island, and so on. And the inspection system has been operated in the mass production line of PDP.
Emerging data demonstrate pivotal roles for brain insulin resistance and insulin deficiency as mediators of cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD). Insulin and insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) regulate neuronal survival, energy metabolism, and plasticity, which are required for learning and memory. Hence, endogenous brain-specific impairments in insulin and IGF signaling account for the majority of AD-associated abnormalities. However, a second major mechanism of cognitive impairment has been linked to obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Human and experimental animal studies revealed that neurodegeneration associated with peripheral insulin resistance is likely effectuated via a liver-brain axis whereby toxic lipids, including ceramides, cross the blood brain barrier and cause brain insulin resistance, oxidative stress, neuro-inflammation, and cell death. In essence, there are dual mechanisms of brain insulin resistance leading to AD-type neurodegeneration: one mediated by endogenous, CNS factors; and the other, peripheral insulin resistance with excess cytotoxic ceramide production.
Changes of soil properties due to sedimentation and erosion in the river estuary may lead changes in environmental factors that affect plant growth and distribution, Then habitats in the river estuary that provide various ecological functions can also be influenced. Topsoil samples were analyzed in order to understand the soil properties of important barrier islands and habitat types in the Nakdong river estuary. The samples were obtained from Phragmites communis and Scirpus planiculmis habitats, the tidal flats in the southern area of Eulsukdo, and in Mangeummerydeung, Baekhapdeung, and Doyodeung. Analyses results showed that bulk density, pH, organic matter content and total nitrogen concentration which were directly or indirectly affected by vegetation showed significant difference (p<0.05) with habitat types but no differences in water content and oxidation reduction potential which could be affected by soil texture and showed significant difference among barrier islands. Results suggested that soil properties on barrier islands in the Nakdong river estuary were influenced first by geomorphic changes due to sedimentation and erosion, and then by the presence or type of vegetation. A range of physical and chemical properties were analyzed; soil water content and bulk density (physical properties), and organic content and pH (chemical properties) were correlated with seven other soil properties, at a level of significance higher than 90%. These aspects played an important role in determining overall soil properties in the studied area.

This study selected five observational stations in the normal direction of Jinu-do(island) shoreline and observed water temperature, electrical conductivity and pressure from March, 2012 to January, 2013(about 11 months) and attempted to see the variation characteristics of ground watertable. This study wants to know : 1) External environment force factors(tide, climate, wave etc.) affecting ground watertable variation through time series and correlation analysis. 2) Spatial variations of ground watertable and electrical conductivity change by storm event. First, we found that the station at the intertidal zone was strongly affected by wave and tide level and the stations at sand dune and vegetation zone was affected by precipitation and tide level through time series data and correlation analysis. Second, during the storm event, we found that ground watertable and electrical conductivity are stabilized at the start line of sand dune and vegetation zone and transition zone between freshwater layer and seawater layer exists in the experiment area and is about 50~70 m from coastline of the south side of Jinu-do(island).
The withdrawal method for protecting the uncontaminated part from the spread of contaminants was suggested by a simultaneous equation. The formulation of them is based upon the build up of the ridge part between the contaminated and uncontaminated parts that resulted from the efficient use of barrier wells. The quality in the withdrawn groundwater depends upon the heads at wells no. 5 and 6. The determination of pumping rates and qualities with changing the heads at wells no. 5 and 6 should be given by considering the demand for water use and the capacity and cost for removing the contained contaminants. The results of this study should be used in taking a plan for supplying water use as well as preventing the spread of contaminants from some known contaminated sources.
In present, the terminal area of the Nagdong River Delta consists of micro-depositional landforms with sand barrier islands, sand bars and tidal flats which are arranged parallel to the present shoreline, and have rapidly shifted toward sea during last 100 years due to human activities such as construction of estuary dam, industrial complex and residential area. To clarify the landform changes of the area, the author traced the morphologic change pattern based on interpretation of air-photos, topographic maps and old Korean traditional map, and the results are as follows ; Based on the Daedongyeojido, one of the old Korean map, published in 1861, the area including upper part of the delta was underlying by sea level except two larger sand barriers, which means the Nagdong River Delta was not completely formed as the present outline of morphology by 1860s. According to the topographic map(1 :50,000) of 1916, the delta resembled to the present morphology pattern was exposed in 1916, and at this time the area was mainly composed of one sand barrier island, four sand bars and tidal flats, which had slowly elongated southwards before construction of the Nagdong River Estuary Dam in 1987. But after 1987, the area has been rapidly and drastically shifted southwards in arrange with one chain of sand barrier islands (Elsugdo -Myeonghodo-Sinhodo ) and four chains of sand bars (first chain ; Jinwoodo -Daemadeung-Maenggeummeorideung, second chain : Jangjado-Baeghabdeung, third chain ; Saedeung-Namusitdeung, fourth : Doyodeung-Dadaedeung) parallel to shoreline. This rapid landform change of the area is now occurring, and is seemed to ascribed firstly, to the construction of the Nagdong River Estuary Dam on Elsugdo in 1987, the Sinho Industrial Complex on Sinhodo and Myeongji Residential Area on Myeonghodo in 1992, secondly, to artificial alteration of drainage channel and consequential breakdown of former energy system between riverflow and tidal-and wave-energy. From these facts, it is inferred that the landform change pattern of the area will continue until a new equilibrium between the factor available to this energy system is accomplished.
Every coastal area exhibits its own unique landscape owing to the combination of the natural and cultural processes. Coastal barrier islands well show the cultural aspects of American coastal landscapes. Some 47% of barrier island area was occupied by urban and built-up area in New Jersey, while some 5% in Georgia. Tourism-related development is back to in the mid 19C. in N.J. due to the closeness to heavily populated areas such as New York and Philadelphia. Developments without proper understanding the nature of coastal processes caused New Jerseyization, the destruction of the beauty or naturalness. It was mainly due to the lack of growth-control policies and the foresight for the future coast in the processes of legislation. North Carolina's islands experienced an increase of 269% in urbanized acreage between 1956 and 1976. However, N.C. exercised her wisdom to recover the naturalness of the coastal environs: all engineering structures are banned on the beaches. Nine out of 13 barrier islands in Georgia exist in the wilderness condition owing to her unique history. The remaining islands still experienced the least development. After the Civil War most of Georgian islands were owned by rich families and maintained as wilderness. In the 1970s most of the uninhabited islands were sold or donated to research institutes or governmental agencies.

This study was conducted to identify the efficacy related to skin barrier functions such as anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, cornified envelope formation and the alleviation effect of keratinocyte damage caused by S. aureus using the callus extract, which was induced and extracted from the leaves of Gynostemma pentaphyllum in Ulleungdo Island. In order to confirm the anti-inflammatory effect of the G. pentaphyllum callus extract on the skin, the expression of inflammatory cytokines was investigated in primary epidermal keratinocytes (HEKa) activated with PAR-2 agonist, and the G. pentaphyllum callus extract showed IL-8, IL-25, and TSLP production inhibitory effect. β-Hexosaminidase assay using RBL-2H3 cells was performed to confirm the anti-allergic efficacy, and G. pentaphyllum callus extract showed the effect of inhibiting the release of β-hexosaminidase. In addition, G. pentaphyllum callus extract showed the cornified envelope formation effect in HaCaT cells, and through the co-culture experiment with HaCaT cells and S. aureus, it showed alleviation effect of keratinocyte damage caused by S. aureus. Therefore, G. pentaphyllum callus extract is considered to be a useful cosmetic material for improving skin barrier with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and alleviation effect of keratinocyte damage caused by S. aureus.
The topographic variables, which influence the precipitation phenomena, are classified by elevation (ELEV), slope (SLOPE), distance to sea (SEA), obstruction (OBST), barrier (BAR), roughness (SHIELD), extracted and analysed according to resolutions. This study is performed through 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 600 m, 800 m and 1,000 m based on 50 m DTM using TOVA (Topographic Variables Extraction Program). The result of a case study on Jeju weather station says that the variance according to resolution is generally less than that according to cardinal direction, but particularly SHIELD values and some cases for 600m resolution have a significant results.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and verify the effectiveness of sustainable cosmetic raw materials developed from Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a plant native to Ulleungdo, in improving the skin barrier function and treating atopic dermatitis. Cells were derived from adult Gynostemma pentaphyllum plants, and suitable conditions for mass culture of the cells were established in a bioreactor. DNA components and amino acids extracted from this mass culture were identified from the HPLC fraction. In the in vitro efficacy evaluation results, changes in the expression levels of skin barrier-related proteins such as filaggrin (FLG) and Zonula occludens-1 (Zo-1) were insignificant. It was confirmed that the expression levels of the proteins thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and interleukin-33 (IL-33) were significantly reduced. These results lead to the conclusion that Gynostemma pentaphyllum cell extracts have significant anti-inflammatory effects and that these extracts can be widely used as sustainable, nature-friendly active material in cosmetics with anti-inflammatory effects and targeted at improving atopic dermatitis. They may find use in anti-aging cosmetic products as well.
