$BaTiO_3$계 세라믹의 $Al_{2}O_{3}$ 첨가에 따른 유전 특성 (Dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$ system Ceramics Doped with $Al_{2}O_{3}$)

  • $(Ba_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4}Ca_{x})TiO_{3}$ (x=0.10, 0.15, 0.20) ceramics were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method and their stuctural and dielectric properties were investigated with variation of composition ratio and an amount of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ (0.5, 1.0, 1.5. 2.0, 3.0 wt%) doping content. As a result of the X-ray diffraction BSCT specimens showed dense and homogeneous structure without presence of the second phase. The sintered density was decreased with increase an $Al_{2}O_{3}$ doping content. The Curie temperature and relative dielectric constant at room temperature were decreased with increasing an amount of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ doping content. The dielectric loss is minimum for BSCT doped with 1.5wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ content. The tunability was decreased with increasing an Ca content and is about 4.2% for BSCT(50/40/10) doped with 2.0wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ content.

  • The effects of $Dy_2O_3$ and $Er_2O_3$ co-doping on electrical properties and temperature stability of barium titanate ($BaTiO_3$) ceramics were investigated in terms of microstructure and structural analysis. The dielectric constant and the insulation resistance (IR) of 0.7 mol% $Dy_2O_3$ and 0.3 mol% $Er_2O_3$ co-doped dielectrics had about 60% and 20% higher than the values of undoped one, respectively, and the temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) met the X7R specification. The addition of $Dy_2O_3$ contributed to electrical properties caused by increase of tetragonality; however, preferential diffusion of $Dy^{3+}$ ions toward A site in $BaTiO_3$ grain exhibited an adverse effect on temperature stability by grain growth. On the other hand, The $Er_2O_3$ addition in $BaTiO_3$ could affect the TCC behavior and the IR with suppression of grain growth caused by reinforcement of grain boundary and electrical compensation. Therefore, the enhanced electrical properties and temperature stability through the co-doping could be deduced from the increase of tetragonality and the suppression of grain growth.

  • Multiferroics exhibiting the coexistence and a possible coupling of ferromagnetic and ferroelectric order are attracting widespread interest in terms of academic interests and possible applications. However, room-temperature single-phase multiferroics with soft ferromagnetic and displacive ferroelectric properties are still rare owing to the contradiction in the origin of ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity. In this study, we demonstrated that sizable ferromagnetic properties are induced in the ferroelectric bismuth ferrite-barium titanate system simply by introducing Co ions into the A-site. It is noted that all modified compositions exhibit well-saturated magnetic hysteresis loops at room temperature. Especially, 70Bi0.95Co0.05FeO3-30Ba0.95Co0.05TiO3 manifests noticeable ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties; the spontaneous polarization and the saturation magnetization are 42 µC/cm2 and 3.6 emu/g, respectively. We expect that our methodology will be widely used in the development of perovskite-structured multiferroic oxides.

$BaTiO_3$계 Ceramic 반도체의 PTC 특성의 첨가물영향 (The effects of additions on the PTC characteristics of semiducting $BaTiO_3$ ceramics.)

  • The semiconducting bodies were prepared by doping the bariume titanate with $Sb_2O_3,Nb_2O_5$and by subsequent sintering in air. The sintered bodies were annealed between $1100^{\circ}C$ and $1250^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes to 2 hours in air. The resistivity was measured as a function of temperature from $20^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$. The anomalous effect in resistivity occurred all of the $Nb_2O_5$ and $Sb_2O_3$doped barium titanate specimens, which were sintered in air atmosphere, and the most effective PTC effect occurred through 1 hour of sintering time at $1350^{\circ}C$ and 30 minute of annealing time at $1200^{\circ}C$. The resistivity - temperature characteristics seem to be intimately related to oxygen adsorption at grain boundaries and also to the thickness of insulating layers formed at grain boundaries during heat treatment.

Tm2O3가 첨가된 MLCC용 BaTiO3 유전체의 전기적 특성 및 열화거동 (Electrical properties and degradation behavior of Tm2O3 doped barium titanate ceramics for MLCCs)

  • Tm 도핑에 따른 $BaTiO_3$ ceramics의 전기적 특성과 열화 거동에 미치는 영향에 대하여 core-shell 형성과 가속열화시험에 의한 미세화학변화의 관점에서 연구하였다. $Tm_2O_3$를 첨가하지 않은 $BaTiO_3$와 1 mol%를 첨가한 $BaTiO_3$를 펠렛과 적층 형태의 시편으로 각각 제조하였다. 1 mol% $Tm_2O_3$가 첨가된 유전체 시편의 유전상수는 $Tm_2O_3$를 첨가하지 않은 시편에 비해 약 40% 높게 나타났고 X7R 조건을 만족하였다. 절연저항 또한 1 mol% $Tm_2O_3$가 첨가된 시편은 $5.43{\times}10^{10}{\Omega}$으로 $Tm_2O_3$를 첨가하지 않은 시편의 $1.11{\times}10^{10}{\Omega}$보다 높게 나타났다. 이는 $Tm^{3+}$ 이온이 Ba site와 Ti site에 선택적으로 치환되고 유전체 미세조직 내에 core-shell 구조를 형성하여 전기적 특성을 향상시킨 것으로 설명된다. 각각의 조성에 따라 제조된 적층 시편의 $150^{\circ}C$, 70 V, 24시간 가속열화시험결과에 따르면, 1 mol% $Tm_2O_3$가 첨가된 $BaTiO_3$는 첨가되지 않은 시편에 비해 전극 층으로의 산소확산이 감소됨을 확인하였고, 이는 $Tm^{3+}$ 이온의 Ti site 치환에 의해 발생한 산소공공이 Ni 전극과 반응할 수 있는 과잉 산소를 줄여주기 때문으로 판단된다.

Low-Temperature Sintering of Barium Calcium Zirconium Titanate Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics

  • The need for lead-free piezoceramics has caused a renewal of interest in $BaTiO_3$-based systems. Recently, it was found that ceramics in the $(Ba,Ca)(Zr,Ti)O_3$ system have properties comparable to those of $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$. However, these ceramics require rather high sintering temperatures of $1450-1550^{\circ}C$. In this work, the effect of $TiO_2$ and CuO addition on the sintering behavior, microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $(Ba_{0.85}Ca_{0.15})(Zr_{0.1}Ti_{0.9})O_3$ (BCTZ) ceramics will be discussed. BCTZ ceramics were prepared by the mixed oxide route and 1 mol % of $TiO_2$ or CuO was added. Undoped and doped ceramics were sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 1-5 h. CuO was found to be a very effective sintering aid, with samples sintered for 1 h at $1350^{\circ}C$ having a bulk density of 95% theoretical density; however the piezoelectric properties were greatly reduced, probably due to the small grain size.

Impedance Analysis of Resistance Anomaly of $BaTiO_3$ based PTC thermistor

  • The effect of Re-oxidation on the PTCR properties of Sm-doped barium titanate ceramics was investigated by means of impedance spectroscopy. Electrical properties such as resistance vs. temperature, I-V curve were measured and microstructure was observed with SEM photography. Sample was fabricated with thick film process such as tape casting of green sheet, screen printing of electrode pattern, stacking, firing in reduced atmosphere and re-oxidation, etc. As the temperature of re-oxidation increases, resistance jump as a function of temperature enhances but resistance at room temperature increases. These behavior of resistance as a function of temperature, dependent on the re-oxidation condition, is analyzed with Cole-Cole impedance plot and is shown to be related with the degree of oxidation of grain boundary regardless of grain core during re-oxidation process of sample.

Fabrication and PTCR Characteristics of Porous Barium Titanate Thermistors using Graphite Powders

  • New porous BaTiO$_3$ thermistors were fabricated using graphite powders (0 to 10 wt. %) and their porosities were in the range of 9.1% to 16.2%. As results of impedance analysis, it was confirmed that the pores affected the grain-boundary resistance and the bulk (grain interior) resistance was constant as about 25 $\Omega$ at room temperature. The magnitude of PTCR effect $(p_{max}/p)$ markedly increased from 3 orders to 7 orders without addition of any acceptor dopant such as Mn or Cr.
