This study examines whether expenditures in information technology (IT) are associated with increases in Tobin's q ratios, a measure of management performance, in the banking industry. The association between IT expenditures and Tobin's q ratios is different, depending upon the banks' size (national vs regional) and strategic orientation (wholesale vs retail), in the Korean commercial banks for the period studied 1990-1996, For national commercial banks which have more clients and electronic banking systems than regional banks, IT expenditures appear to increase Tobin's q ratios. This may indicate that IT is linked to the ability to achieve economies of scale or network effects when large banks use IT as a strategic tool. The association between IT expenditures and management performance measures is also positive and statistically significant for retail-oriented banks. This research makes two important practical contributions with respect to financial reform. First, the evidence suggested that Korean commercial banks need to apply IT strategy in conjunction with restructuring strategy to be a super-bank and, hence, reap substantial competitive advantage from IT applications. Second, since the government recently encouraged commercial banks to increase credit loans as a means of financial reform, most banks tend to focus on retail banking. IT used in the retail banking sector contributes to improve management performance as the evidence suggested.

Playing an important role in developing the economy and overall developments of the country, commercial banks have to be aware of their crucial presence in order to perform well and contribute significantly. At the same time, as a place to receive deposits, banks are required to be in safe situations to avoid bankruptcy or deal with financial crises. This research seeks to identify the determinants of Capital Adequacy Ratio and Banks' performance as well as the relationship between these two dependent variables. The paper uses 128 observations of 16 Vietnamese commercial banks during the period from 2010 to 2017, with two simultaneous dependent variables CAR and ROE, and independent variables including Return on Assets, Tobin Q, Credit growth, GDP growth, Equity to Deposits, Loans to Deposits, Bank size, Cost to Income, Liquidity risk, Provision for Loan loss ratio, Non-performing loans and Inflation. The results reveal that Capital Adequacy Ratio and Banks' Performance have statistically significant relationship and Credit growth, GDP growth, Equity-to-Deposit ratio and Cost-to-Income ratio all have significant effects on two dependent variables. The findings of this study suggest that commercial banks should control the respective elements in order to maintain adequate level of capital and also create effective performance.
This paper applies the binary tree classifier and discriminant analysis methods to predicting failures of banks and insurance companies. In this study, discriminant analysis is generally better than the binary tree classifier in the classification of bank defaults; the binary tree is generally better than discriminant analysis in the classification of insurance company defaults. This situation can be explained that the performance of a classifier depends on the characteristics of the data. If the data are dispersed appropriately for the classifier, the classifier will show a good performance. Otherwise, it may show a poor performance. The two data sets (bank and insurance) are analyzed to explain the better performance of the binary tree in insurance and the worse performance in bank; the better performance of discriminant analysis in bank and the worse performance in insurance.
Trade finance promotes export performance, and every small- and medium-sized export business has the right to use policy finance. The credit line is also stipulated by relevant laws and regulations. However, trade finance has repeatedly been misused, so these matters can lead to substantial financial loss and damage to the related financial institutions. The lack of expertise of K-SURE and the backwardness of banks represent even bigger problems in the follow-up management. The existing trade finance system should be improved in the following ways from the institutional and legal perspectives. Firstly, follow-up management of beneficiary companies should be reinforced and systematized through examining business tendencies, financial status, and other important factors. There is also a need for advancement of following up management. An effective and streamlined financing system must be established by abolishing the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation. This study presents improvements and their implications by looking into the main issues under the current trade finance system. This study is based on documentary research and practical cases.

This paper describes high-speed pipelined memory architecture for a shared buffer ATM switch. The memory architecture provides high speed and scalability. It eliminates the restriction of memory cycle time in a shared buffer ATM switch. It provides versatile performance in a shared buffer ATM switch using its scalability. It consists of a 2-D array configuration of small memory banks. Increasing the array configuration enlarges the entire memory capacity. Maximum cycle time of the designed pipelined memory is 4 ns with 5 V V$\_$dd/ and 25$^{\circ}C$. It is embedded in the prototype chip of a shared scalable buffer ATM switch with 4 x 4 configuration of 4160-bit SRAM memory banks. It is integrated in 0.6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 2-metal 1-poly CMOS technology.
Image compression is now essential for applications such as transmission and storage in data bases. For video and digital image applications the use of long tap filters, while not providing any significant coding gain, may increase the hardware complexity. We use a wavelet transform in order to obtain a set of bi-orthogonal sub-classes of images; First, the design of short kernel symmetric analysis is presented in 1-dimensional case. Second, the original image is decomposed at different scales using a subband filter banks. Third, this paper is presented a technique for obtaining 2-dimensional bi-orthogonal filters using McClellan transform. It is shown that suggested wavelet bases is well used on wavelet transform for image compression. From performance comparison of bi-orthogonal filter, we actually use filters close to ortho-normal filters on application of wavelet bases to image analysis.
The fisheries cooperative (FC) performs the economic and nonprofitable activity to get the fundamental objective of enhancing cooperative members' economic and social position. The internal control system fitted for a local FC should be required for not only solving the resulting problem from the complexity of FC environment nowaday but also delegating authorities and performance from FC Federation to a local FC by implementing the local autonomy. The methodology of this study is to empirically test and to analyze the condition of FC internal control system (FCICS) by the questionnaire survey. The actual condition of FCICS in Korea is analyzed by the questionnaire and the detailed contents are as follows : (1) sending 208 questionnaire consisting of 162 questions, and receiving 92 replies from 39 manufactures (business firms) and 15 banks in Gyungnam and Pusan area and 25 FC and 13 agricultural cooperative (AC) in Korea, (2) the analyzed results of FC and AC are treated simultaneously. In the fundamentals of above analyzed results, the evaluation model of FCICS is tried to construct from the relationship between the financial condition of FC and the internal control elements through the stepwise regression method. (1) By the stepwise regression method, the number of FC officials $(X_1)$, the experimental number of regular auditing $(X_7)$, and auditing duty years $(X_8)$ are finally accepted as independent variables, (2) and the final model becomes $Y=-1.53526+0.34455X_1+0.24513X_7+0.16585X_8$/ and this model explains to the extent of 47.826%. From the above study, following proposals are to be suggested: (1) The function and problem of internal control in FCICS is able to be improved by enforcing the function of FCICS and enriching the management's recognition of FCICS (2) The cooperative president can bring up good FC by the rational operation of FCICS according to the size and the performance pattern of FC, adding up to enhance members' economic and social position.

This study is a case study of KEB HanaBank's information system integration, which has achieved outstanding results based on successful M & A. As of the end of 2018, KEB HanaBank is one of the domestic commercial banks that showed 896 domestic and overseas branches, 12,881 employees, total assets of 326 trillion won, and net income of 1.9 trillion won. The purpose of this study is to provide implications through KEB Hana Bank's unique case and strategy for information system integration since M & A. To accomplish this, KEB HanaBank's information system integration related resource status, strategy, and performance are searched using various sources, and existing researches on resource dependency theory and entrepreneurial bricolage are reviewed. In the post merger integration process, organizations need to understand the status of their resources in terms of resource constraint theory in order to succeed in the information system integration. In resource constraints, for successful computational integration, a strategy based on entrepreneurial bricolage will be needed.
Recently banks and large financial institutions have introduced lots of Robo-Advisor products. Robo-Advisor is a Robot to produce the optimal asset allocation portfolio for investors by using the financial engineering algorithms without any human intervention. Since the first introduction in Wall Street in 2008, the market size has grown to 60 billion dollars and is expected to expand to 2,000 billion dollars by 2020. Since Robo-Advisor algorithms suggest asset allocation output to investors, mathematical or statistical asset allocation strategies are applied. Mean variance optimization model developed by Markowitz is the typical asset allocation model. The model is a simple but quite intuitive portfolio strategy. For example, assets are allocated in order to minimize the risk on the portfolio while maximizing the expected return on the portfolio using optimization techniques. Despite its theoretical background, both academics and practitioners find that the standard mean variance optimization portfolio is very sensitive to the expected returns calculated by past price data. Corner solutions are often found to be allocated only to a few assets. The Black-Litterman Optimization model overcomes these problems by choosing a neutral Capital Asset Pricing Model equilibrium point. Implied equilibrium returns of each asset are derived from equilibrium market portfolio through reverse optimization. The Black-Litterman model uses a Bayesian approach to combine the subjective views on the price forecast of one or more assets with implied equilibrium returns, resulting a new estimates of risk and expected returns. These new estimates can produce optimal portfolio by the well-known Markowitz mean-variance optimization algorithm. If the investor does not have any views on his asset classes, the Black-Litterman optimization model produce the same portfolio as the market portfolio. What if the subjective views are incorrect? A survey on reports of stocks performance recommended by securities analysts show very poor results. Therefore the incorrect views combined with implied equilibrium returns may produce very poor portfolio output to the Black-Litterman model users. This paper suggests an objective investor views model based on Support Vector Machines(SVM), which have showed good performance results in stock price forecasting. SVM is a discriminative classifier defined by a separating hyper plane. The linear, radial basis and polynomial kernel functions are used to learn the hyper planes. Input variables for the SVM are returns, standard deviations, Stochastics %K and price parity degree for each asset class. SVM output returns expected stock price movements and their probabilities, which are used as input variables in the intelligent views model. The stock price movements are categorized by three phases; down, neutral and up. The expected stock returns make P matrix and their probability results are used in Q matrix. Implied equilibrium returns vector is combined with the intelligent views matrix, resulting the Black-Litterman optimal portfolio. For comparisons, Markowitz mean-variance optimization model and risk parity model are used. The value weighted market portfolio and equal weighted market portfolio are used as benchmark indexes. We collect the 8 KOSPI 200 sector indexes from January 2008 to December 2018 including 132 monthly index values. Training period is from 2008 to 2015 and testing period is from 2016 to 2018. Our suggested intelligent view model combined with implied equilibrium returns produced the optimal Black-Litterman portfolio. The out of sample period portfolio showed better performance compared with the well-known Markowitz mean-variance optimization portfolio, risk parity portfolio and market portfolio. The total return from 3 year-period Black-Litterman portfolio records 6.4%, which is the highest value. The maximum draw down is -20.8%, which is also the lowest value. Sharpe Ratio shows the highest value, 0.17. It measures the return to risk ratio. Overall, our suggested view model shows the possibility of replacing subjective analysts's views with objective view model for practitioners to apply the Robo-Advisor asset allocation algorithms in the real trading fields.
