Enterprises are classified into seven industries including Agriculture, Material, Industry, Real estate and Construction, Energy, Consumer, and Service. The paper also analyzes the variation of the effects among companies, focusing on differences in revenue and capital structure. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affects business performance. • This study aims to investigate whether economic growth is elevated by banking industry development in Jordan. The study adopts time-series econometric methodologies, which comprise the bounds testing approach within the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) and the conditional causality analysis. Consistent with the assumptions of the adopted methodology, the study utilized annual time-series data for a relatively long period of thirty-nine years, between 1980 and 2018. The empirical results show that Jordan's economic growth is strongly responsive in respect to any changes in banking industry development. Also, the results reveal the harmful impact of rising lending interest rate; as this rate increases, economic growth will decrease. The findings are in line with the conceptual arguments of the supply-leading hypothesis, which confirmed that banking development is considered as one of the main pillars that have stimulating effects on economic growth. The evidence of the current study may provide important implications for policymakers and bankers. Those professionals should work to maintain a stable regulatory system that enhances the banking system function in activating economic growth. Also, a considerable focus should be placed on designing a steady interest rate policy to avoid the inherently undesirable impacts of high-interest rates on the Jordanian economy.

  • In this paper we present the development of internet banking and its impact on financial market. The internet banking has been introduced since 1990s, from which customers could obtain most financial services over internet, and will replace with the traditional banks. According to a survey, most of bankers agree that internet will play an important role in banking industry. The internet banking has an enormous impact on the transfer system and banking industry. The transfer system is divided into two-large-value transfer system and small-value transfer system, depending on the size of its transfer amount. The internet banking will enhance the transfer system, especially small-value transfer system. It will reduce the time lag between transaction of service and its payment. However, a congestion or a blockage in a part of network might stop the financial service all over the network, which is called "computer risk". As internet banking develops, banks have incentives to reduce their branches and have to compete with information-business companies which can offer financial EDI.

  • This study investigates the impact of Internet Banking Systems on the business performance of bank. Although Internet Banking Systems were introduced about 15 years ago in Korea, there were few studies which evidenced the relationship between Internet Banking Systems and the performance of banks. For this empirical investigation, this study collected the panel data of 13 domestic banks over 8.5 years and divided the dataset into two parts-the first half period (2003~2007) and the second half period (2008~2011) in order to examine the dynamic changes in the impact of Internet Banking Systems. The fixed-effects panel regression results were different in the two parts of dataset. Internet Banking Systems showed only cost-efficiency impact in the first half period. However, in the second half period, Internet Banking Systems showed positive impact on the bank profitability. Moreover, the dummy variable regarding local bank showed no additional impact on this result, implying that the impact of Internet Banking Systems was still significant for the local banks. The results will deliver managerial interpretation on the value of Internet Banking Systems and additional implication on the strategic planning of Internet Banking Systems for many domestic banks.
