  • The land-cover of two regions of South and North Korea included in one Landsat TM scene was investigated by comparing different seasons and different band data over the multiple land-cover types. The relationships between the intensities of two bands in the 2-D plot are mainly linear in band2 versus band1 and band3 versus band1, polygonal sporadic in band5 versus band1 and band7 versus band1, and almost tri-polarized in band4 versus band3. The 2-D plot of band4/band3 shows the best capability to discriminate different main land-cover such as water, vegetation and dry soil. Some discriminations are not clear between city and dry field, or mountain and plain field in the scene of September. The digital number data of band4 from vegetated zones show stronger reflectance in September rather than April, while other band values tend to be lager in April than in September over each land-cover. NDVI presents high value in both regions in September. However the image of Wonsan area in April suggests weak vigor of vegetation in comparison with Cholwon area. Band ratios are very effective in eliminating the influence of the complex topography. The proper pairing of the band ratio improved the discrimination capability of the land-cover; band5/band2 for dry soil, band4/band3 for vegetation and band1/band7 for the water. The RGB combination of the three band ratio pairs showed the best results in the discrimination of the land-cover of Wonsan, Cholwon and even the Demilitarized Zone.

  • Band 3, the predominent 95,000 dalton anion transport protein, is the major intrinsic glycoprotein of the human erythrocyte membrane. This anion carrier exists as a dimer and binds the cytoskeletons such as spectrin, ankyrin and actin. And the liposomes are vesicular structures which form spontaneouly upon hydration of phospholipids. These artificial lipid vesicles have been investigated as model of the biological membranes and as a mean of improving the delivery of nucleic acids, drugs, proteins and biological substances to specific target tissues and cells. In this study, we were purified Band 3 from the human erythrocyte membrane(ghost) was prepared by hemolysis of intact human erythrocyte with weak alkali-hypotonic solution. Band 6 was removed from ghost by extracting with solution of an ionic strength of 0.15. Band 3 and Band 4 were solubilized selectively by extracting Band 6-depleted ghosts with Triton X-100 under nondenaturing conditions. Band 3 was then purified from Triton X-100 extract treated with p-chloromercuribenzoate by sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation. This purified Band 3 was incorporated into liposomes prepared by reverse-phase evaporation. Phosphatidyl L-serine and cholesterol(1 : 1 molar ratio) were dissolved in chloroform and then chloroform was removed by rotatory evaporation under reduced pressure. Band 3 solution without Triton X-100 was introduced into a mixture of lipids and diethylether. Diethylether was subsequently removed by evaporation. This purified Band 3 and its incorporation into liposomes were confirmed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

  • Recently the frequency assignment and the technical specifications of UWB systems for communications are completed. Therefore many UWB systems have been developed. In our country $3.1{\sim}4.8GHz$ and $7.2{\sim}10.2GHz$ are assigned for UWB systems for communications. When we consider RF technologies and the easy implementation of UWB systems, UWB systems used in the low band are more developed than high band systems. In this paper we design and implement a BPF for low band UWB systems by means of considering the easy implementation of UWB systems. The designed and implemented BPFs are low band filter and low band channel filters. The measured results of the low band filter show that the filter has 21.85dB and 17.91dB attenuation at 3.1GHz and 4.8GHz, 1.53GHz of -10dB bandwidth and 2dB of insertion loss. Low band can be divided into 3 channels with 500MHz of the channel bandwidth. The channel filter for channel number 1 has the characteristics of 24.85dB attenuation at 3.1GHz, 0.61GHz of -10dB bandwidth and 1.87dB of insertion loss. The filter for channel 3 in low band has 19.2dB of attenuation at 4.8GHz, 0.49GHz of -10dB bandwidth and 2.49dB of insertion loss.

  • In this paper, we design and implement an Ultra-Wide Band (UWB, 3.1~10.6 GHz) antenna with 5G mobile communication (3.42~3.70 GHz) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN, 5.15~5.825 GHz) bands rejection characteristics. The proposed antenna consists of a planar radiation patch with two slots. The upper slot contributes to reject 5G mobile communication band and the lower slot contributes to reject WLAN band. The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) values of the proposed antenna show good performances in whole UWB band except for rejection bands based on VSWR 2.0. The proposed UWB antenna was simulated using High Frequency Struture Simulator (HFSS) by Ansoft. The simulated antenna showed dual rejection bands of 3.31~3.92 GHz and 5.04~5.90 GHz in UWB band, and measured antenna showed dual rejection bands of 3.35~3.97 GHz and 5.06~5.97 GHz. The largest VSWR values measured at each rejection band are 13.60 at 3.64 GHz and 10.25 at 5.52 GHz. The measured maximum gain is 5.31 dBi at 10.00 GHz. The lowest gains for the measured antenna at rejection bands are -8.73 dBi at 3.70 GHz and -4.36 dBi at 5.56 GHz.

  • This paper proposes a dual-band bandpass filter using stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) with parallel coupled structures. The proposed filter adopts U-shaped SIRs with parallel coupled lines (PCLs) that have interdigital and comb-line shorted ends. The central PCLs build an upper passband and a transmission zero, and the two U-shaped SIRs build a lower passband. Four resonators and coupling structures are theoretically analyzed to derive its scattering parameters. A novel dual-band bandpass filter is designed and fabricated using the induced scattering characteristics. The measured results show that the fabricated dual-band bandpass filter has an insertion loss of less than 1.02 dB in the lower band of 2.45 GHz and of 3.01 dB in the upper band of 3.42 GHz, and a band-to-band isolation of more than 40 dB, from 3.14 to 3.2 GHz.

  • The study was intended to know any relations between the rice tolerance to bensulfuron and varietal speciation in seed protein composition or any enzymatical allelies with or without chemical treatment. Rice varieties used were UCP-28, Chinsurah Boro II, Fukunohama, Fadehpur-2, IR 14252-13-2-2-5 as the tolerant group, and HP 93(3) FA, HP94(9) FA, Padilabou Alumbis, KH-17854, and IR 1846-2841-1 as the susceptible, respectively. Electrophoretic methods used were SDS-PAGE for seed protein, 7% PAGE for isozymes (acid phosphatase, peroxidase, malate dehydrogenase, and esterase from rice seedling) and variation in isoenzyme profiles (malate dehydrogenase, peroxidase, and esterase) as affected by different concentrations of bensulfuron(0, $10^{-6}$, $10^{-5}$ and $3{\times}10^{-5}M$) was also studied. The results are summarized as follows. -Among 16 bands separated in seed proteins, two different rice groups selected in terms of tolerance to bensulfuron were clustered in dissimilarity, which was based on relatively larger area in whole peaks and higher activities in N, O, P bands for the tolerant group. -Among isozymes obtained from rice seedlings without chemical treatments, the following specificities were obtained. The tolerant varieties had the relatively higher activity in D band out of 4 peroxidase bands. Malate dehydrogenase was separated into 3 bands and only tolerant varieties had A band and higher activities in Band C bands. Esterase was separated into 3-4 bands with higher activities in A and B bands for tolerant varieties. There were one major band accompanied by 2-3 minor bands for acid phosphatase in which only tolerant varieties had the B band. -The effect of Bensulfuron concentration on the isozyme activities showed that the activity of C band in peroxidase was not present in tolerant varieties which was contrary to the increased activities in susceptible varieties. However, D band was gradually disappeared only in susceptible varieties as the concentration of bensulfuron was increased. For malate dehydrogenase in the susceptible varieties, major bands D, E and F kept consistantly higher activities while minor bands A, B and C disappeared sensitively. Among 5 bands of esterase separated, D band was present only in the tolerant varieties while E band only in the susceptible. The activities in A, C, E bands were sharply decreased in the susceptible varieties as the concentration of bensulfuron was increased.

  • When the component proteins in crude saline extract of 13-week old adult Paragonimus westermani were observed by non-denaturing discontinuous-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (Disc-PAGE), 8 distinct bands were clearly recognized. Molecular weight (MW) of each band protein, numbered in sequence from cathodal side which appeared in 10% separating gel, was measured first by Ferguson plot utilizing different gel concentrations from 10% to 4.5%. MW of band 1 Protein (known as egg Protein) was 440 kDa. And MW of other band Proteins were: 386 kDa in band 2, 17.4 kDa in band 3, 17kDa in band 4, 14.3 kDa in band 5, 46 kDa in band 6, 38 kDa in band 7 and 23 kDa in band 8. When the proteins in the crude extract were separated into fractions by molecular sieve chromatography through 1.6 (Φ)×70cm sired Sephacryl 5-300 Superane column and revisualized by Disc-PAGE in 8% gel, the sequence of fluted proteins was band 1, band 2, band 6, band 7 and bands 3,4,5 and 8. This elusion profile confirmed MW of each band protein in the crude extract as measured by Ferguson plot.
