선박 밸러스트 탱크 유입수 필터링 시스템 설계 및 구조해석 (Filtering System Design and Structural Analysis for Intake Water of Ship's Ballast Tank)

  • As current international guideline and IMO regulation give severe restrictions for ships to manage ballast water to reduce unintentional organism transfers, several ballast water treatment systems recently have been being developed together with filtration. That is because discharging ballast water from ships causes many pollutions by foreign biological invasive species. The primary treatment system being considered in this study was based on fine screen filtration technology applied to ballast water filter in ballast tank in order to reduce the load of ballast water treatment system. New ballast water filtration system was invented and analysed. The structural stress and strain analysis for ballast filtration systems which are current and invented filters were carried out using UGS and Ansys. The results showed that the structure of current filtering module was not designed to meet the requirement of sea water filtration during ballasting operation. The studies also showed that the invented design of filtration system equipped with back washing and automatic scrapper for eliminating cake of bio-species might be a potentially effective technology for ballast water management of ship's ballast tank.

  • In accordance with adoption of new convention for the control of ship's ballast water at the diplomatic conference held in London Feb, 2004, every country has to regulate the ballast water and deposit matters. When this Resolution comes into effect in 2009, all vessels engaged in international voyage must have ballast water control program, ballast water records, equipments which are suitable to the standard of exchange and performance for the ballast water. This study estimates objectively their performances, merits and demerits of the ballast water treatment technique and exchanging techniques for safe operation of ships. It is desirable to design an equipment to control the ballast water using the brush-type vacuum suction nonstop reverse cleaning system to overcome the clogging phenomenon and the direct disc filtering to maximize filtering area for the optimum process considering biological availabilities. It will be expected to protect against marine pollution and to maintain clean sea if it is secured to develop new ballast water treatment techniques. And it will also be expected to cope with the Resolution and each regulation of the developed countries from the ballast water.

Shipboard Test of Ballast Water Treatment System by Ozonation

  • This study is currently giving priority to developing the ballast water treatment system using ozone(Ozone BWTS). The Ozone BWTS, were equipped on the real merchant vessel named as M. V. Hyundai Hong Kong to carried out shipboard tests of ballast water treatment system in accordance with orders of IMO G8 Guidelines. The study results show that the Ozone BWTS is capable of meeting the Ballast Water Performance Standard under Regulation D-.2 of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, and also the more stringent standards being proposed under US legislation.

  • IMO adopted ' International Convention for The Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments ' on February 13th 2004. According to this convention, a ballast water treatment system should be installed in all ships obligatorily up to a standard date. When the system is installed, economic propriety should be considered. The economic propriety analysis examines the profit of a relevant project which can be presented by a equation, (Profit) = (income) - (expense) - (tax). However, the ballast water system is not for the profit during the life cycle but for the satisfaction of the regulation. Therefore, the expense should be minimum against the profit. This study presents the LCC(Life-Cycle Cost) analysis for economic evaluation of several ballast water system of foreign products.

Land Based Test of Ballast Water Treatment System by Ozonation

  • This study is currently giving priority to developing the ship's ballast water treatment system using ozone (Ozone BWTS). The Ozone BWTS was tested in a full scale land-based mobile barge to evaluate performance according to the IMO G8 Guidelines. Test cycles using the mobile-barge were conducted in seawater and brackish water in the vicinity of the Port of Busan and Nakdong River, Republic of Korea. All tests were conducted according to the requirements of the G8 Guidelines. Test results show that the Ozone BWTS meets the Ballast Water Performance Standard contained in Regulation D-2 of the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention, as well as all of the operational, safety, and environmental testing requirements of the G8 Guidelines, as required for type approval of IMO. The study results show that the Ozone BWTS is capable of meeting the Ballast Water Performance Standard under Regulation D-2 of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, and also the more stringent standards being proposed under US legislation.

직접 전기분해식 선박평형수 처리장치 개발과 시험에 관한 연구 (Development of the Electrolysis Ballast Water Treatment System and Test)

  • 선박의 항해 안전성을 유지하기 위하여 평형수 탱크에 주입 배출되는 선박평형수는 그 안에 포함되어 있는 각종 수중생물로 인하여 지역 해양 환경에 부정적인 영향을 주고 있다. 국제해사기구(IMO)는 선박평형수를 통한 수중생물의 이동을 막기 위해, 2004년 선박평형수와 침전물 통제 및 관리를 위한 국제협약을 채택하고 2016년 9월에 발효하여, 2017년 9월 이후 정기검사가 도래하는 모든 선박은 선박평형수 처리장치를 설치하도록 하였다. 선박평형수 처리 방식에는 활성물질을 이용하여 처리하는 전기분해식, 오존식, 약품식과 물리적인 처리방식인 필터, 자외선식 등으로 나누어 지며, 두 가지 방식을 혼용하여 사용하기도 한다. 일반적으로 비용과 효율 면에서 전기분해방식이 우수한 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 직접식 전기분해 선박평형수 처리장치의 기본 원리, 구성 요소, 육상 시험 내용을 고찰하였다. 육상시험은 정부시험 시설이 설치되어 있는 KIOST 거제분원에서 $300m^3/h$ 처리 용량의 장치로 수행하였다. 이 육상시험을 통해 직접식 전기분해 선박평형수 처리장치가 IMO에서 제시하고 있는 기준을 만족하고 다른 방식에 비해 효율적인 것을 확인하였다.

  • 선박의 평형과 균형을 위해 사용하고 있는 선박용 평형수는 선박의 이동과 함께 이동되며 선박의 화물 적재와 하역 시 선박용 평형수의 급수와 배수가 이루어지게 된다. 이를 통하여 유입된 외래 해양 미생물의 경우 새로운 환경에 적응하여 스스로 파괴되기도 하지만 적응을 하게 되는 미생물의 경우에는 강력한 번식력을 바탕으로 해양 생태계를 파괴하게 된다. 주로 사용되고 있는 자외선 살균 공법은 살균된 미생물의 기형변이 문제와 침전물 제거, 2차 평형수 저장 탱크의 살균 문제를 가지고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 퍼지 PID제어 기법을 이용한 램프 출력 조절 시스템을 구현하여 램프 파손 방지와 미생물 기형변이 문제를 억제할 수 있는 선박평형수 처리시스템을 개발 하였다. 실험 결과 초기 3분간은 해수의 급격한 온도 상승이 이루어졌으며 안정기 이후에서는 적정 온도를 유지하여 램프의 수명 연장과 해양 미생물의 기형변이 문제를 억제 할 수 있게 되었다.

평형수처리장치 성능기준 및 시행시기 차이에 의한 관련 당사자들의 대응전략 연구 (A study on the strategy of concerned parties with regard to the performance standards and implementation schedule of ballast water treatment systems)

  • 평형수처리장치는 고가이며, 현존선에는 설치시 기술적으로 고려할 사항이 많고 설치시간 또한 많이 걸린다. 더불어, 평형수관리협약이 발효되지 않은 상황에서 총회 결의로 탑재시기를 조정하였으며, 미국의 캘리포니아주 및 뉴욕주에서는 IMO D-2 규칙보다 엄격한 평형수 배출 기준을 적용하고자 하고 있으며, 그 시행시기도 협약보다 조기에 시행하고자 하고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 평형수처리장치 제조자와 선주의 이해가 상이한 부분의 고려가 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 선박 탑재시의 고려사항, 미국의 강화된 기준 및 협약의 시행시기 유예 사항을 검토하여, 앞으로 다가올 선박평형수관리협약의 발효와 미국의 강화된 기준 시행에 대비한 각 이해 당사자들의 전략을 제시하고자 한다.

  • Displayed result that handle particle contaminant and hydrospace organism included in number of ballast that is happened in ship using automatic back washing filter. Reason that remove first contaminant that is included in number of ballast is that heighten processing effect of after processing process. of the filter. Another advantage is to drop oft the solids with controlling revolution of drum screen in pretreatment filtration process. The fact that it is easy to attach and detach a several type of screen for getting the expected water quality is another advantage. Filter rotation speed at 1.0rpm is filter resistance 3.0bar and 3.0rpm is filter resistance 2.8bar. Filter out impurities from ballast water over 6.0rpm is filter resistance 2.6bar and 10rpm is filter resistance 2.5bar. Filtration system removal aquatic organism over $80{\mu}m$ in ballast water. This study shows that the filtration treatment system has a potential for the treatment of ballast water.
