Energy-balance node-selection algorithm for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks

  • To solve the problem of unbalanced loads and the short network lifetime of heterogeneous wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes a node-selection algorithm based on energy balance and dynamic adjustment. The spacing and energy of the nodes are calculated according to the proximity to the network nodes and the characteristics of the link structure. The direction factor and the energy-adjustment factor are introduced to optimize the node-selection probability in order to realize the dynamic selection of network nodes. On this basis, the target path is selected by the relevance of the nodes, and nodes with insufficient energy values are excluded in real time by the establishment of the node-selection mechanism, which guarantees the normal operation of the network and a balanced energy consumption. Simulation results show that this algorithm can effectively extend the network lifetime, and it has better stability, higher accuracy, and an enhanced data-receiving rate in sufficient time.

Minimum Energy Cooperative Path Routing in All-Wireless Networks: NP-Completeness and Heuristic Algorithms

  • We study the routing problem in all-wireless networks based on cooperative transmissions. We model the minimum-energy cooperative path (MECP) problem and prove that this problem is NP-complete. We hence design an approximation algorithm called cooperative shortest path (CSP) algorithm that uses Dijkstra's algorithm as the basic building block and utilizes cooperative transmissions in the relaxation procedure. Compared with traditional non-cooperative shortest path algorithms, the CSP algorithm can achieve a higher energy saving and better balanced energy consumption among network nodes, especially when the network is in large scale. The nice features lead to a unique, scalable routing scheme that changes the high network density from the curse of congestion to the blessing of cooperative transmissions.

우리나라 고등학생의 식품 및 영양소 섭취 변화 추이 - 2007~2015 국민건강영양조사를 이용하여 - (Trends in Food and Nutrient Intake of High School Students based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007~2015)

  • This study assessed yearly trends of food and nutrient intake among high school students aged 16 to 18 years (n=2,377) using the 2007~2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Yearly trends of food or nutrient intake were analyzed via logistic regression analysis. The results showed that consumption of sugars & sweets, and beverages & alcohols was increased rapidly during this period (p<0.0001). Intake of meat & meat products, and fish & shellfish also was increased (p=0.0008). Intake of grains and grain products was increased until year 2011 but declined after 2012 (p=0.0025). Consumption of vegetables, and milk & milk products was decreased (p=0.0395). Intake of protein, fat, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and iron was increased (p=0.0445). Carbohydrate energy ratio was decreased, whereas fat energy ratio was increased (p=0.0235). Most nutrient intakes satisfied the dietary reference intakes for Koreans except dietary fiber (19.6~26.2%), calcium (46.9~55.2%) and sodium (more than 221.4%) during this period. There was a significant positive correlation between most food group intakes and most nutrient intakes (p=0.0468). Therefore, it is crucial to increase dietary fiber and calcium intake and decrease consumption of sugars, fats and sodium through diverse eating of food groups to ensure balanced nutrition of subjects.

A Low Overhead, Energy Efficient, Sink-initiated Multipath Routing Protocol for Static Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Multipath routing in wireless sensor networks has been proven to provide with increased data delivery ratio, security, robustness to node and link failures, network throughput, etc. However, the energy cost for multiple routes construction and their maintenance is very high. This paper proposes a sink-initiated, node-disjoint multipath routing protocol for static wireless sensor networks that significantly minimizes the route construction messages and thereby saves the critical batter energy of sensor nodes. It also distributes the traffic load spatially over many nodes in the forwarding paths, which ensures balanced energy consumption in the network and thereby increases the network lifetime. The simulation results show that it decreases the routing overhead as well as the standard deviation of nodes' residual energies.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크의 각 센서 노드는 배터리 기반의 제한된 에너지로 동작하기 때문에 무선센서 네트워크에서의 효율적인 에너지 사용에 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 무선 센서 네트워크의 수명을 연장하기 위해서는 전체 네트워크의 전력소비를 줄이는 것도 필요하지만 보다 중요한 것은 센서 노드들의 균일한 에너지 소비를 유도하는 것이다. 무선 센서 네트워크와 같이 많은 수의 센서 노드가 조밀하게 분포되어 긴밀한 협업을 통해 정보를 모으고 전달하는 유기적인 시스템에서는 가능한 많은 노드들이 생존하는 것이 망의 수명에 더욱 중요한 요인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 무선 센서 네트워크에서 Ad Hoc 라우팅 프로토콜인 AODV를 기반으로 수집된 자료를 목표지점까지 전달하는데 소수의 특정 노드들에 트래픽이 집중되지 않게 하여 전체 네트워크의 수명을 연장하는 에너지 인식 라우팅 기법을 제안한다. 제안한 프로토콜에 대해서 시뮬레이션을 기반으로 네트워크 수명과 종단 간 지연 등의 성능 지표에 대한 분석을 수행하였다.

  • ad-hoc네트워크에서 네트워크의 생존시간을 연장하기 위해서는 네트워크 트래픽 부하를 전체 네트워크에 골고루 분산시켜 노드당 평균 에너지 소모율을 균일하게 유지할 수 있어야만 한다. 본 논문에서는 노드의 에너지 잔량 및 사용 빈도 등을 고려해 경로를 설정하는 수정 AODV 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 또한 경로 재설정 과정에서 생성되는 엄청난 양의 AODV 제어 메시지 발생으로 인한 에너지 소모를 줄이기 위해 출발지 노드의 버퍼에 다중 경로 정보를 저장하도록 하였다. 링크 단절 시 경로 재설정 과정 전에 경로 테이블에 저장된 경로 정보를 활용할 수 있도록 하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 알고리즘의 성능 평가를 위해 기존 AODV 및 에너지 기반 라우팅 프로토콜인 MMBCR방식과 전체 노드의 에너지 잔량, 네트워크 생존시간 및 데이터 패킷 수신율 등 3가지 평가 항목을 사용해 비교하였다.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크(Wireless Sensor Network)에서 라우팅 방식은 에너지 효율 측면에서 데이터의 전송량을 줄일 수 있는 클러스터링 방식이 사용된다. 하지만 클러스터링 방식은 클러스터 헤드 노드의 에너지 소모가 많은 문제점이 있다. 클러스터 헤드 노드의 에너지 소모가 많은 문제를 보완하기 위한 방식으로 클러스터 헤드 노드의 재 선출을 통해 에너지 소모를 분산하는 동적 클러스터링(dynamic clustering) 방식이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 동적 클러스터링 방식의 경우 클러스터 헤드 노드를 재선출할 때마다 클러스터 구조가 바뀌게 되며, 이로 인한 에너지 소모가 발생한다. 즉 지금까지 연구된 동적 클러스터링 방식은 많은 에너지를 소모하는 클러스터 헤드 노드 선출 및 클러스터 형성의 셋업(set-up) 과정이 반복적으로 일어나는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 반복적인 셋업의 에너지 소모 문제를 해결하기 위해 클러스터는 고정하고, 클러스터 내의 클러스터 헤드 노드를 Round-Robin으로 선출하는 RRCH(Round-Robin Cluster Header)방식을 제안하였다. RRCH방식은 한번 구성된 클러스터 내에서 각 센서 노드(sensor node)의 지속적이고 균형적인 에너지 소모를 이루어, LEACH방식처럼 셋업 과정이 반복적으로 일어나지 않게 하는 에너지 효율적인 방식이다. 이 제안의 타당성을 모의실험을 통해 확인하였다.

  • 무선 Ad-hoc 네트워크에서의 배터리 고갈에 의해 발생하는 노드 실패는 네트워크 전체의 성능에도 큰 영향을 미치므로 에너지소비를 고려한 라우팅 알고리즘은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에는 전송 시 노드에 의한 에너지 소비뿐만 아니라 노드의 잔여 에너지와 경로 재설정 시 소요되는 지연까지도 고려한 라우팅 (DEAR; Delay and Energy-Aware Routing) 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 성능분석 결과 DEAR알고리즘은 충분한 잔여 에너지를 보유한 노드로 경로를 설정함으로써 에너지 비율에 따라 균형 있게 에너지를 소비할 수 있었다.

Dietary Problems among Middle-Aged Japanese Men

  • Balanced intake of appropriate nutrients is the key to sustaining and promoting health as well as preventing and treating diseases. It is not always easy, however, to take balanced nutrition and various related factors must be taken into consideration. This report provides a summary of studies that have examined the nutrient intakes of Japanese middle-aged men and the relationship of this intake to drinking, job-related separation from families, and health practices. The alcohol consumption of Japanese middle-aged men has more than tripled in the last forty years. When nutrient intake was examined in relation to alcohol consumption, it was discovered that the maximum acceptable alcohol consumption was approximately 23 grams (about two drinks) of pure alcohol, provided the level of nutrient intake for drinkers was equal to that of non-drinkers. The alcohol energy ratio was approximately 5%. It was also discovered that middle-aged men's eating habits deteriorate when they relocate to new posts without their families and live by themselves. Compared to those living with their families, a higher proportion of those living alone have unfavorable eating habits including skipping breakfast or lunch, having a late lunch, and eating and drinking after dinner until bedtime. When Breslow's seven health practices, nutrient intake, and consumption weight by food group were examined, it was discovered that the group that had many beneficial eating and living habits consumed plenty of legume, pulses, fruit, green yellow vegetables and milk products. Their intake of vitamins and minerals was high and the results of a physical examination proved to be excellent. According to nutrition surveys conducted in Japan, China, the United Kingdom and the United States using a 24-hour recall method with common protocols and strict controls to ensure high levels of accuracy and cross-study validity, the Japanese had the highest cholesterol intake and the lowest dietary fiber intake among the four countries. Also, the alcohol energy ratio of the Japanese exceeded 8%, the highest among the four countries, while their intake of magnesium and iron was the lowest These results indicate that it is necessary to enhance nutritional education for middle-aged men and to reinforce the social environments in which they live and work in order to promote proper diet and nutrition in Japan. 여대생 대상 체중조절 프로그램의 영양 교육 효과 평가 (Effectiveness of Nutrition Education in a Weight Control Program for Female College Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the multilateral weight control program provided by the university health care center for female college students. The program was 8weeks long and composed of nutrition consultation, exercise, and behavior modification. Nutrition education focused on a low calorie and balanced diet, increasing the intake of protein and micronutrients and reducing carbohydrate and fat consumption. Evaluations were made upon completion of an 8-week program and upon follow-up at 6 months after the end of program. A total of 92 women completed the 8-week program, while 20 completed the follow-up survey. Upon completion of the 8-week program, significant decreases in body weight, BMI, body fat (kg), and %body fat were observed, and muscle mass was also reduced. The total energy and carbohydrates intake were also significantly decreased in subjects with weight loss, while the percentage of subjects whose consumption of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin $B_1$, $B_6$, and niacin did not meet the EAR, were decreased. The blood values of glucose, total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were decreased. The follow-up survey revealed that the subjects continued to lose weight after completion of the program. In addition, a Mini nutrition assessment revealed that diet quality improved, especially with respect to reductions in the consumption frequency of fried, greasy and salty food. In conclusion, the multilateral weight control program with diet education for female college students was effective for long lasting weight control and improved dietary behavior. Nutrition education for weight reduction should focus on balanced nutrition as well as lowering the total caloric intake.
