Objective : A Patient complaining of dizziness was diagnosed and treated with the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system and was analyzed to report cases Methods : Based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system, we analyzed a case treated with the Baekho-tang and counseling. Results : Baekho-tang showed a rapid improvement in the patient. During the period of 20 days, dizziness were greatly improved. Conclusions : The Baekho-tang, which is not well known yet, can show rapid effect and can be diagnosed frequently through the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system.

Objective : The purpose of this paper is to analyze the difference between Baekho-tang(白虎湯) and Baekhogainsam-tang (白虎加人蔘湯). Methods : We compared the effect of Baekho-tang on atopic dermatitis and the effect of Baekhogainsam-tang on allergic contact dermatitis. We focused on the level of thirst. Results : After the Baekho-tang treatment, the SCORAD of atopic dermatitis patient decreased $63.8{\rightarrow}4.3$ and VAS of pruritus on atopic dermatitis patient were improved $8{\rightarrow}2$ respectively. Meanwhile, after the Baekhogainsam-tang treatment, the VAS of pruritus on allergic contact dermatitis patient was improved $7{\rightarrow}2$ and the thirst of the patient improved. Conclusions : There is a difference between Baekho-tang and Baekhogainsam-tang at the level of thirst. Baekhogainsam-tang continues to thirst hard enough to find water.

This paper confirmed the effect of Baekho-tang(白虎湯) on psoriasis patient diagnosed with Yangmyung-Yeoljeung(陽明熱證). We treated patients with psoriasis classified as Yangmyung-Yeoljeung(陽明熱證) according to Shanghanlun(傷寒論) with Baekho-tang(白虎湯). Two patients was treated with Baekho-tang(白虎湯) for 18 days and 75 days, respectively. Baekho-tang(白虎湯) used in the treatment consisted of Gypsum Fibrosum 16g, Oryza semen 12.5g, Anemarrhena Rhizoma 6g and Glycyrrhizae Radix 2g. The severity of psoriasis was evaluated by PASI(psoriasis area severity index) and pictures. Also we checked the change in Pruritus by VAS(visual analogue scale). After the Baekho-tang(白虎湯) treatment, the PASI of 2 patients decreased from 13 to 2.8 and from 10.8 to 0.8 respectively. In addition, VAS of 2 patients diminished from 10 to 3 and from 8 to 1 respectively. Moreover, no side effects were observed. We received effective results by giving Baekho-tang to Psoriasis patients with sweaty, dry mouth, and heating sensation. Anti-inflammatory, antipyretic effects and immunomodulatory functions of Baekho-tang(白虎湯) could lead to improvement of psoriasis.

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement in a patient with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) treated with herbal medication based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods: According to the 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions,'the patient was diagnosed with Guorem-byung number 350 provision, and took Baekho-tang herbal medication for 15 days. The result of administration was evaluated using the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results: After administration of Baekho-tang for 15 days, based on the 350 provision of Baekho-tang diagnosed according to the Shanghanlun provisions, the DHI score decreased from 74 to 16 and the VAS score decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions: The patient recovered from symptoms of BPPV. This case report suggests that the words '滑,''厥,''裏'on the 350 provision of Shanghanlun mean physical and psychological causes of BPPV in this case.

양명열증(陽明熱證)으로 변증(辨證)된 안면홍조형 주사피부염 환자 1례에게 백호탕(白虎湯)을 투여한 결과, 약 1~2주 후 안면홍조가 호전되었음을 확인하였으며, 주증상에 동반되었던 열감 및 기타 제반증상 역시 전반적으로 호전되는 모습을 보였다.

Objective: This study aimed to report the improvement of a patient with chronic insomnia who was treated with Baekho-tang based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS). Methods: The patient's symptoms were checked on days 19, 37, and 52 after taking Baekho-tang. Chronic insomnia was evaluated by the degree of insomnia, hours spent asleep, and the number of times the patient woke up during the night, which were all assessed by a visual analog scale (VAS) with the Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire. In addition, new clinical implications for the interpretation of the 350th Shanghanlun provision were reviewed. Results: After administering Baekho-tang for 52 days, based on the 350th Shanghanlun provision according to the DPIDS, the VAS score decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions: The patient recovered from chronic insomnia. This case report suggests that the words "滑," "厥," and "裏" in the 350th provision of Shanghanlun mean physical and psychological causes of insomnia. In addition, Baekho-tang had a therapeutic effect in improving the chief complaint of the patient. Therefore, the interpretation of the 350th Shanghanlun provision requires a new definition that includes the patient's lifestyle, family conflict, and past history of the patient as a cause of chronic insomnia.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to show a case of patient with epigastralgia which appeared after Stroke improved by Baekho-tang. Methods: We treated the patient with Herbal med, Acupuncture, Moxa. Results: Every Herbal med was no effect on Epigastralgia of patient. But The epigastralgia of patient was disappeared after using Baekho-tang. Conclusion: We can find out the effect of the Baekho-tang for epigastralgia which appeared after Stroke in this study.

This paper suggested MyeonGu(面垢), symptom of Baekho-tang(白虎湯) in text 219 of Shang-Han-Lun(傷寒論), could be reinterpreted. There were 4 cases, 1 case on atopic dermatitis and 3 cases on psoriasis. All of them were diagnosed by Ying-Ming-Bing(陽明病) symptom. After taking Baekho-tang, SCORAD index of atopic dermatitis in case 1 improved 62.8 to 12.8 and PASI score of psoriasis in case 2, 3, and 4 improved 13.0 to 2.4, 10.8 to 0.8, and 8.6 to 1.0 respectively. Since Baekho-tang was effective for certain skin disease with Ying-Ming-Bing(陽明病) symptom, MyeonGu could be related on skin problem. MyeonGu was mainly translated in 'someone's face seems to be covered with dirt'. However if Myeon(面) is translated in 'surface of the body' and Gu(垢) is translated in 'inflammation', it means the surface of the body suffered from papules, erythema, white scales, etc. These are features of chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease like atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. This study is meaningful in case of giving specific clinical case of MyeonGu of Baekhotang text of Shanghanlun.

Objectives The aim of this study was to identify the effect of Baekho-tang extract on epidermal barrier recovery and inflammation relief in atopic dermatitis-induced mice through Endocanabinoid system (ECS) regulation. Methods In this study, we used 4-week-old NC/Nga mice were divided into 4 group: lipid barrier elimination group (LBEG), palmitoylethanolamide treated group after lipid barrier elimination (PEAT), Baekho-tang extract treatment group after lipid barrier elimination (BHTT) and control group (Ctrl). Each group was assigned 10 animals. We identified that cannabinoid receptor (CB) 1, CB2, CD (Cluster of Differentiation) 68, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), substance P and Matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9) through our immunohistochemistry. Results We discovered that when compared to PEAT, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, a marker of oxidative stress in the epidermal barrier, and CB1 and CB2, markers of ECS modulation, were less activated in BHTT. These results led to an anti-inflammatory response in BHTT, with a significant decrease in several inflammatory mediators such as CD 68, iNOS, substance P and MMP-9 compared to PEAT and LBEG. Conclusions These results suggest that the Baekho-tang extract can reduce the inflammation of atopic dermatitis by restoring the structural damage of the skin lipid barrier through ECS modulation.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to confirm the regulate effect of T helper (Th) 2 differentiation that Baekho-tang extract may produce to improves skin lipid barrier damages. Methods Four-weeks-old NC/Nga mice were divided into four groups: control group (Ctrl, n=10), lipid barrier eliminated group (LBE, n=10), Dexamethasone treatment after lipid barrier elimination group (DxT, n=10), and Baekho-tang extract treatment group after lipid barrier elimination group (BHTT, n=10). Baeko-tang extract was administered for 3 days after removal of the skin fat barrier in BHTT group. Then, we identified changes in external symptoms of the skin, factors affecting skin barrier such as potential of hydrogen (pH), filaggrin (FLG), transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and Th2 differentiation factors like Interleukin (IL)-4, Kallikrein Related Peptidase 7 (KLK7) and protease activated receptor 2 (PAR-2) through our immunohistochemistry. Results After lipid barrier elimination, the reduction of morphological skin inflammations was less in BHTT group than in LBE group and DxT group. Also, pH and TEWL were significantly decreased with BHTT group. However, FLG was significantly increased in BHTT group compared to LBE, DxT, and Ctrl group. All kinds of Th2 differentiation factors (IL-4, KLK7 and PAR-2) were also decreased in BHTT compared to the LBE and DxT. Conclusions As a result of this study, BHT administration decreased pH, TEWL, and increased FLG, thus participating in recovering damaged skin barrier. Since Th2 differentiation factors were decreased as well, BHT's regulatory effect in sequential immune reactions may be a possible explanation of how it enhances recovery of the damaged lipid barrier.
