  • The spine is one of the most important skeletal joints, and it strongly affects the health of the musculoskeletal system. A normal spine has an S-shape, and it is very important to maintain this shape. Recently, spinal diseases such as low back pain have increased rapidly, especially among the elderly. Some of these diseases are caused by congenital spinal disorders and sporting and accident injuries as well as by bad postures. Improper spinal postures could generate excessive disc pressure, which is related to degeneration and pain. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the three-dimensional kinematic parameters of the thoraco-lumbar joint in several bad postures using a motion capture analysis technique. Different bad postures created a significant amount of flexion/extension, side bending, and axial rotation angle compared with neutral postures. Further study is necessary to investigate the disc pressure and ligament force due to the increase in joint rotation from the bad postures.

  • Small marine propeller is generally machined by 5-axis machining. This paper suggests a method to create geometric model from point array data and 4-axis machining NC data for propeller. With conventional method, the setting posture should be changed, because propeller has front and back surface of wing. The change of setting posture has a bad influence on precision of propeller. So this paper pro-poses a method to machine propeller by single setup for 4-axis machining. The cutter moves to parallel direction of the XY plane. To determine the cutter orientation efficiently, the' tilting guiding line' is proposed. A proposed algorithm is written in C language and successfully applied to the 5-axis milling machine of industrial field.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the vital capacity and maximal voluntary ventilationin subjects with forward head posture (FHP). METHODS: Twenty-eight subjects participated in this study (normal 14, FHP 14) and were resident in B city. The mean age, height and weight of subjects was 22.80yrs, 169.36cm and 62.79kg. Subjects were asked to breath maximally for FVC and repeatedly for MVV during 12 seconds. The variables of data were collected as follows: Forced Vital Capacity(FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in One Second($FEV_1$), $FEV_1$/FVC, Maximal Voluntary Ventilation(MVV). Each trial was performed by 3 times and we used the means to analyze the data. The mann-whitney U test and independent t-test were used to compare the vital capacity between normal and FHP subjects. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 21.0 for window versionand p-values less than 0.05 were used to identify significant differences. RESULTS: The FVC, $FEV_1$, $FEV_1$/FVC and MVV of FHP subjects were decreased more than that of normal subjects and the difference was statistically significant between two groups. CONCLUSION: The vital capacity of subjects with FHP was generally lower than normal subjects. This study shows that the vital capacityof subjectswith FHP could be decreased due to the bad neck posture that weakens the respiratory accessory muscles of neck.

  • Although they generally undergo less change in somatotype than other age groups, women in their early twenties have postural changes incurred with their inappropriate postures during the growth period. Since such somatotype changes reduce their satisfaction in the fitting of ready-made clothing, the study intends to examine the inadequate postures and life habits of women in their twenties and to analyze their self-recognition and actual conditions of the bad fit of ready-made clothes. A survey questionnaire was conducted on 225 customers and 29 sellers of ready-made clothes. According to the result, it was found that their inappropriate postures had made their back and shoulders undesirably bent and led to their low satisfaction in the fitting of ready-made clothes. Therefore, it is necessary to perform researches for developing renovated design in consideration of their somatotype changes.

  • Bad sitting postures are known to cause for a variety of diseases or physical deformation. However, it is not easy to fit right sitting posture for long periods of time. Therefore, methods of distinguishing and inducing good sitting posture have been constantly proposed. Proposed methods were image processing, using pressure sensor attached to the chair, and using the IMU (Internal Measurement Unit). The method of using IMU has advantages of simple hardware configuration and free of various constraints in measurement. In this paper, we researched on distinguishing sitting postures with a small amount of data using just one IMU. Feature extraction method was used to find data which contribution is the least for classification. Machine learning algorithms were used to find the best position to classify and we found best machine learning algorithm. Used feature extraction method was PCA(Principal Component Analysis). Used Machine learning models were five : SVM(Support Vector Machine), KNN(K Nearest Neighbor), K-means (K-means Algorithm) GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model), and HMM (Hidden Marcov Model). As a result of research, back neck is suitable position for classification because classification rate of it was highest in every model. It was confirmed that Yaw data which is one of the IMU data has the smallest contribution to classification rate using PCA and there was no changes in classification rate after removal it. SVM, KNN are suitable for classification because their classification rate are higher than the others.

  • In this paper, it introduced the device that was fabricated for monitoring sleeping positions of infants with 3-axis accelerometer. Sleep monitoring studies has been usually conducted two ways. To monitor sleeping posture by installing a camera and then recording of sleep in the sleeping room continuously is the first one. The other one is monitoring pressure sensor's results data for sleeping. Those two ways' benefits are that are able to get relatively accurate sleeping posture data but, there are many disadvantages like constraints of spaces and places, the installation of sensors or cameras, and high cost. In addition, it has a lot of problems that difficult to solve. For babies, it's not easy to apply, as well as uncomfortable. The proposed method uses a 3-axis accelerometer's X axis, Y axis, Z axis position output values in order to recognize the bad ground sleeping position that use of the buzzer alarm. This method uses a 3-axis acceleration sensor to measure the data and transmit sleeping posture using Bluetooth wireless in real time monitoring. The data is helpful for prevention safety hazard such as choked themselves when they slept back side on.
