The rich cultural backgrounds and practices of children from native cultures are often absent in classroom instruction, as teachers might feel that they have inadequate knowledge and backgrounds in the unique practices of these populations. Historically, children from native cultures have had challenging educational experiences and poor educational outcomes. To address these challenges, we propose a Family and Culture Based (FCB) framework that draws from family-centered practice, asset-based practice, and culturally responsive pedagogy. This article describes the three steps of the FCB framework, which uses a teacher-as-learner approach to instruct students from native cultures by engaging teachers in reflection, gaining knowledge about the cultural practices of the family and community, and integrating the new knowledge into practice. We use a Pacific Islands case (Native Hawaiian family) and a Pacific Northwest case (First Nations family) to illustrate the potential benefits of using the FCB framework with indigenous students.

This study examined customer misbehaviors in retail settings by identifying behavioral patterns and exploring behavioral backgrounds and consequences from the employee's perspectives. Qualitative data were collected from an individual interview method, and 222 interviews were analyzed. Customer misbehavior was categorized into unethical returns, problem behaviors in service encounters, unreasonable demands, shoplifting/fraud, ill-mannered behaviors, and selfish behaviors. Behavioral backgrounds included dissatisfaction, unreasonable expectations, actively benefiting of service failures, taking advantage of service standards, illegitimate complaints, monetary gains, transferring responsibility, and demanding special treatment. Employees experienced stress facing misbehaving customers with no other choice except to accept misbehaviors and learned misbehaviors as customers themselves. The study further discusses the implications.

Team-members may have diverse backgrounds and characteristics and such diversity is getting increased in teams in terms of demographics(gender, age, and educations) and capabilities(knowledge, skills, and experiences). A meta-analysis of the last 40 years studies, however, concluded that diversity in teams does not have the consistent main effect on team performances. On the other hand, according to theories of selection and socialization, similarity in values, backgrounds, and experiences buttress the positive and effective working environment. Therefore, we conduct an empirical study in favor of similarity in work teams for the sake of team effectiveness. We investigated the importance of the similarity of team-members on IT team effectiveness. Two aspects of similarity, demographic and cognitive, were considered together. The shared mental model(SMM) was introduced as the representative construct for the cognitive similarity. We found that SMM is more important than the demographic similarities on team effectiveness.

The aim of this study were to assess high school students' consumption pattern of Korean rice cakes and to analyze the preference of them by students' demographic backgrounds. Self completed questionnaires were collected from 672 high school students in Seoul area. A questionnaire consisted of three parts including demographic backgrounds, student's consumption pattern and preference of Korean rice cakes by type. Statistical data analysis was done using the SPSS/PC program for descriptive analysis, t-test and $X^2$ test. Approximately half of the students were male(52.6%) with the average age of 16.7 The consumption frequency rate showed that 41.6% students had Korean rice cake once a week followed by once or twice a month(39.1%), once per six months(11.0%), and once per two months(8.3%) Ingeolmi received the highest preference score(4.28), whereas Duteopteok had the lowest score(0.18).

Objectives : The aim of this study was to introduce the concept of health inequalities, and to discuss the underlying assumptions and ethical backgrounds associated with the issue, as well as the theoretical and practical implications of health inequalities. Methods : Based on a review of the literature, we summarize the concepts of health inequalities and inequities and discuss the underlying assumptions and ethical backgrounds associated with these issues from the view of social justice theory. We then discuss the theoretical and practical implications of health inequalities. Results : Health inequality involves ethical considerations, such as judgments on fairness, and it could provide a sensitive barometer to reflect the fairness of social arrangements. Discussion on health inequalities could deepen our understanding of the social etiology of health and provide a basis for the development of comprehensive and integrative social policies. Conclusions : Health equity is not a social goal in and of itself, but should be considered as a part of a broader effort to seek social justice.

This work deals with automatic motion detection for with surveillance tracking that aims to provide high-lighting movable objects which is discriminated from moving backgrounds such as moving trees, etc. For this aim, we perform a false background region detection together with an initial foreground detection. The false background detection detects the moving backgrounds, which become eliminated from the initial foreground detection. This false background detection is done by performing the bimodal segmentation on a deformed image, which is constructed using the information of the dominant colors in the background.

In the light of these analysis of the recorded rainfall data from the meteorological observatories in Kyungpook area, hydraulic and hydrological data based on the representative watershed area and questionnaire or visiting letters to the 21 Land Reclamation Association in Kyungpook province, the hydrological backgrounds being the question to the irrigation facilities in Kyungpook Province or nation wide were studied partialy and the system of conservation and management of agricultural water sources facilities, prevention countermeasures to the drought and flood disasters, prediction of available surface waterflow and need or needless of new facilities establishment were reviewed in this paper. In the results, Technical and financial management and conservation investments of the already constructed ficalities should urgently and firstly be considered than the newly being established one.

With the advent of lean-six sigma era, an extensive use of analytic tools such as control charts is required in the field of manufacturing. In relation to statistical quality control (SQC) or process control (SPC), the Korean standards have undergone a meaningful change. In this study, the theoretic backgrounds for evaluating the control limits in connection with the variable control charts are examined in view of better understanding the related constants and coefficients. This paper is intended to help the quality control practitioners understand the mathematical backgrounds by comparing related quality control constants and also to encourage them to make use of and to take the advantage of the variable control charts which are very useful for implementing the concept of lean-six sigma in many industrial sites.

Insulating polymers and their composites have been widely used in various electric apparatus or cables. Recently, the effects of interfaces (metal/insulator or insulator/insulator interfaces) on electrical insulation have attracted much attention. However, interfacial phenomena in actual insulation systems and their physical backgrounds are not well understood yet. In this paper, the behaviour of charge carriers near the metal/polymer interface and its effects on conduction and breakdown phenomena are discussed. The metal/polymer interface strongly affects carrier injection, space charge formation and breakdown phenomena. Based on their experimental results, the physical backgrounds of the interfacial phenomena are explained.

For a Tychonoff space X, C(X) is a Riesz-space. It is well known that C(X) is order-Cauchy complete if and only if X is a quasi~F space and that if X is a compact space and QF(X) is a minimal quasi-F cover of X, then the order- Cauchy completion of C(X) is isomorphic to C(QF(X)). In this paper, we investigate motivations and historical backgrounds of the definition for quasi-spaces and the construction for minimal quasi-F covers.
