  • An existing unit of power plant is considered to refurbish it for possible application of carbon capture and storage(CCS). Conceptual design of the plant includes basic considerations on the national and international situation of energy use, environmental concerns, required budget, and time schedule as well as the engineering concept of the plant. While major equipment of the recently upgraded power plant is going to be reused, a new boiler for air-oxy fired dual mode operation is to be designed. Cryogenic air separation unit is considered for optimized capacity, and combustion system accommodates flue gas recirculation with multiple cleaning and humidity removal units. The flue gas is purified for carbon dioxide separation and treatment. This paper presents the background of the project, participants, and industrial background. Proposed concept of the plant operation is discussed for the possible considerations on the engineering designs.

  • Recently, many efforts have been made for research and application of object tracking system. However, introduced object tracking algorithms have limitations to adopt a realtime object tracking system with multi camera. In this paper, we present a novel background generation and target object recognition algorithm for realtime object tracking system with multi camera and implemented it.

신세대를 위한 간판의 감성공학적 설계 방안 (Application of Human Sensibility Ergonomics to Design of Restaurant/Cafe Signboard for New Generation)

  • This paper describes study of design specifications of restaurant/cafe signboard for new generation. Signboard is an important element in restaurant/cafe, especially for sensitive new generation, that affects image of and first impression on it. The design elements of a signboard that were chosen for analysis were background color, lettering, and letter color, which were found to have strong influences on impression of signboard in questionnaire survey. Using different combination of these design elements, fifteen samples were created for subjective evaluation. 30 pairs of adjectives which were shown to be related to signboard significantly in the first evaluation were used by fifteen subjects, twelve men and three women. Subjective evaluations were carried out by semantic differential methods, and then analyzed by using multivariate analyses. Among three design elements, the background color affected impression of signboard most significantly. The relationships between design elements (item/category) and subjective impressions were suggested using quantification theory I, which could be used as design guidelines when designing restaurant/cafe signboard with specific human sensibility ergonomic characteristics.

A Method for Extracting Shape and Position of an Object using Partial M-array

  • This paper describes a new method for object extraction necessary for image tracking systems. The extraction method which this paper proposes here is that an M-array is set between a camera and the object and the obtained image including the object and M-array is pro-cessed for extracting the object. The image processing utilizes a characteristic of M-array which is robust to noise. When an M-array is overlapped on the object in background image, the object woud have a part of M-array, which is detected by use of partial correlation between the mosaic image of M-array and the standard M-array. Thus the shape and position of the object are extracted by extracting a common domain of width of high correlation value. Experiments are carried out by using an actual photo of Kumamoto city taken from an airplane as background, and by use of a rectangular and circular object. The results of experiment show a wide application of this method for practical image tracking systems.

  • The principal features of a face are as follows : skin-tone, symmetry, and requisites such as shape of ellipse, eyes, nose, mouth. Also, faces have different size, various shape and position. In case of application of face recognition and detection without preprocessing, efficiency of the performance is decreased. In addition, face itself, complex background, image quality, etc. are included. Therefore, previous face recognition methods are implemented on the base of specific constraints of the face image. In this paper, we propose the efficient and automatic face detection algorithm for minimizing influence such as complex background, image quality, etc. This face detection technique consists of skin-tone, candidate face region and face region extractions.

  • This study aims to inquire into the expressive characters of Shiro Kuramata's works regarding his design languages. His design languages, based on sentimentality and aesthetics characteristic of the orient and his unique memories and experiences, can be defined as nongravitation, fioatation and transparency. And the definition can be completed by his unique extinguishing technique, eliminating the structure with materials without feature, such as glass and acrylic and expanded metal, steel mash and 'Star piece Terrazzo' a material which he has invented. This study examines Shiro Kuramata's design works from the late 1960's to 1991, the year of his death, the background of his growth and the art and people who have influenced him. It also looks into the indigenous cultural background and his unique memories and experiences. The study also considers his furniture works and interior design to read his languages properties of the materials and expressive techniques. The study presents data on Shiro Kuramata and puts forwards the significance of his works and tries to lead the way of the interior design by application techniques of materials.

Real-Time Surveillance of People on an Embedded DSP-Platform

  • This paper presents a set of techniques used in a real-time visual surveillance system. The system is implemented on a low-cost embedded DSP platform that is designed to work with stationary video sources. It consists of detection, a tracking and a classification module. The detector uses a statistical method to establish the background model and extract the foreground pixels. These pixels are grouped into blobs which are classified into single person, people in a group and other objects by the dynamic periodicity analysis. The tracking module uses mean shift algorithm to locate the target position. The system aims to control the human density in the surveilled scene and detect what happens abnormally. The major advantage of this system is the real-time capability and it only requires a video stream without other additional sensors. We evaluate the system in the real application, for example monitoring the subway entrance and the building hall, and the results prove the system's superior performance.

  • Object extraction problem is one of the most important topics in the research area of computer vision, this type of technique can be widely used in practical, such as image processing, robot vision, automatically traffic guide and so on. In this paper, we propose a different way to estimate the background and foreground without any previous training procedure, this approach can be used for automatic object extraction in the future. A simple experiment result shows that our approach has a good potential for the further more practical application.

  • Real-time thermal image is obtained by thermal imaging systems measuring radiant emittence according to law of Plank's blackbody radiation. The histogram of thermal image is not uniform. The signal bands of background and target are separated and grouped in narrow bands. In such a system, contrast enhancement indispensible to distinguish target from background. In this study, plateau histogram equalization using local histogram is proposed for contrast enhancement.

  • 본 논문에서는 연속적인 입력화상에서 움직임을 나타내는 객체(Object)를 적은 연산량을 사용하여 추출해 내는 알고리즘을 소개한다. 본 알고리즘은 두 가지 단계로 이루어진다. 첫번째 단계로, 이전의 영상과 현재의 영상을 비교하여 움직임의 변화를 보이는 영역을 찾는다. 이 단계에서는 영상을 비교하여 움직임을 추출하기 위하여 창조영상과 현재의 영상, 그리고 영상의 데이터로서 edge정보를 사용한다. 두 번째 단계에서는, 첫번째 단계에서 움직임으로 판단된 Object mask(변화를 가지는 영역)를 가지고 background 제거 및 Object의 정확한 shape을 만들기 위한 post-processing과정을 가지게 된다. 이 두 단계를 거친 후 입력영상에서 background를 떼어낸 최종적인 Object의 shape정보가 추출되게 된다. 이 알고리즘은 object를 기반으로 부호화함으로써 데이터의 압축률을 극대화 시키는 MPEG-4뿐만 아니라, video database, 무선 통신등과 같은 다양한 범위의 application에 적절하게 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
