  • Smart systems in different application areas such as automotive, medical and consumer electronics require a novel manufacturing method of electronic, optical and mechanical functions into products. Traditional methods including mechanical assembly, bonding of plastic and electronic circuit cause the problems in large size of products and complicated manufacturing processes. In this study, thermoforming and film insert molding were applied to fabricate a dome shaped plastic part embedded with electronic circuits. The deformation of patterns printed on PET film was predicted by thermoforming simulation using T-SIM, and the results were compared with those by experiment. In order to decrease spring-back after thermoforming, the Taguchi method of design of experiment was used. Through ANOVA analysis, it was found that mold temperature was the most dominant parameter for spring-back. By using flow analysis, gate design was performed to decrease injection pressure. During film insert molding, the wash-out of ink printed on film occurred for Polycarbonate. When the resin was changed to PMMA, the wash-out disappeared due to low melt temperature.

  • The document discusses the regeneration of Partisil/Partisphere ion-exchange columns in chromatography. It mentions that column efficiency can diminish with use due to the accumulation of sample and/or mobile phase impurities at the head of the column. This can lead to a change in back pressure, lower column efficiency, and sometimes a change in selectivity. The document outlines a procedure that may restore column performance. The document also provides everyday practices to enhance the lifetime of a column. These include using only high-purity HPLC solvents and buffers, using freshly prepared mobile phases and buffers, filtering mobile phases to remove particulates, using appropriate sample clean-up procedures, using a guard column or pre-column filter, and working within the pressure and flow rate limitations of the column. For the regeneration of Partisil/Partisphere SAX, SCX, WAX, and WCX columns, the document suggests passing 20 column volumes of various mobile phases through the column. These include a buffer wash, distilled water, an acid wash, a chelating wash, a methanol wash, and a buffer for separation. The document emphasizes that not all of these wash steps are required for every column clean-up and that some chromatographers require only a combination of certain steps.

  • In this study, a physics-based 3D morphology model for the estimation of an erosion rate of nourished beach is newly proposed. As a hydrodynamic module, IHFOAM toolbox having its roots on the OpenFoam is used. On the other hand, the morphology model comprised a transport equation for suspended sediment, and Exner type equation derived from the viewpoint of sediment budget with the bed load being taken to accounted. In doing so, the incipient motion of sediment is determined based on the Shields Diagram, while the bottom suspended sediment concentration, the bed load transport rate is figured out using the bottom shearing stress directly calculated from the numerically simulated flow field rather than the conventional quadratic law and frictional coefficient. In order to verify the proposed morphology model, we numerically simulate the nonlinear shoaling, breaking over the uniform beach of 1/m slope, and its ensuing morphology change. Numerical results show that the partially skewed, and asymmetric bottom shearing stresses can be successfully simulated. It was shown that sediments suspended and eroded at the foreshore by wave breaking are gradually drifted toward a shore and accumulated in the process of up-rush, which eventually leads to the formation of swash bar. It is also worth mentioning that the breaker bar formed by the sediments dragged by the back-wash flow which commences at the pinnacle of up-rush as the back-wash flow gets weakened due to the increased depth was successfully duplicated in the numerical simulation.

  • In this study, we carried out the 3D numerical simulation to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of Synchronous Edge wave known as the driving mechanism of beach cusp using the Tool Box called the ihFoam that has its roots on the OpenFoam. As a wave driver, RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation) and mass conservation equation are used. In doing so, we materialized short-crested waves known as the prerequisite for the formation of Synchronous Edge waves by generating two obliquely colliding Cnoidal waves. Numerical results show that as can be expected, flow velocity along the cross section where waves are focused are simulated to be much faster than the one along the cross section where waves are diverged. It is also shown that along the cross section where waves are focused, up-rush is moving much faster than its associated back-wash, but a duration period of up-rush is shortened, which complies the typical characteristics of nonlinear waves. On the other hand, due to the water-merging effect triggered by the redirected flow toward wave-diverging area at the pinacle of run-up, along the cross section where waves are diverged, offshore-ward velocity is larger than shore-ward velocity at the vicinity of shore-line, while at the very middle of shoaling process, the asymmetry of flow velocity leaned toward the shore is noticeably weakened. Considering that these flow characteristics can be found without exception in Synchronous Edge waves, the numerical simulation can be regarded to be successfully implemented. In doing so, new insight about how the boundary layer streaming occur are also developed.

  • In this study, in order to make up its draw-back in Cu-ZSM-5 catalytic system, some of transition metals or alkaline earth metals were cocation-exchanged in Cu-ZSM-5. Among various cocation-ion-exchanged ZSM-5 catalysts, Mg/Cu-ZSM-5 has been found the most active and durable in NOx reduction even at high oxygen content as well as at the presence of water vapor. The role of Mg in ZSM-5 is supposed to prevent the dealumination of aluminum ions in super-cage even at harsh hydro-thermal conditions, and also it seems to stabilize the Cu ions in the structure. In order to prepare commercially available catalysts, Mg/Cu-ZSM-5 catalysts were wash-coated on the surface of honeycomb type monolith, and tested in terms of catalytic activities. As a result, it was found that the catalyst prepared bt the wash-coating showed satisfactorily high NOx conversion for the practical use in SCR process.

  • A cylinder-shaped filter was developed to manage the runoff from construction sites. Compressed air was used for back-washing and pore sizes of filter were $23{\mu}m$ and $46{\mu}m$. The turbid water was prepared using sediments in construction sites. The grain size analysis showed that grains smaller than $38{\mu}m$ and larger than $335{\mu}m$ in size constituted 34.4 % and 37.6 %, respectively. Removal efficiency of the filter on turbidity, SS, COD, TN and TP showed 25~37%, 20~40%, 50~55%, 23~27% and 14~20%, respectively, whereas their removal efficiecy by using coagulant PAC showed 77~84%, 70~83%, 53~60%, 27~36%, and 59~75%, respectively. The filtration time was determined to be around 10 to 20 minutes. Back-washing for 10 seconds by pressurized air resulted in a satisfactory regeneration efficiency. According to the aforementioned test results, the cylinder-shaped filter is effective in reducing turbidity and would be suitable for practical application in construction sites and farms.
