An intelligent performance diagnostic program using the Neural Network was proposed for PW206C turboshaft engine. It was selected as a power plant for the tilt rotor type Smart UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) which has been developed by KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). For teaming the NN, a BPN with one hidden, one input and one output layer was used. The input layer had seven neurons of variations of measurement parameters such as SHP, MF, P2, T2, P4, T4 and T5, and the output layer used 6 neurons of degradation ratios of flow capacities and efficiencies for compressor, compressor turbine and power turbine. Database for network teaming and test was constructed using a gas turbine performance simulation program. From application results for diagnostics of the PW206C turboshaft engine using the learned networks, it was confirmed that the proposed diagnostics algorithm could detect well the single fault types such as compressor fouling and compressor turbine erosion.
The aim of this paper is to develop the ISCOSTFUN (Intelligent System for Prediction of Concrete Strength by Functional Networks) in order to provide in-place strength information of the concrete to facilitate concrete from removal and scheduling for construction. For this purpose, the system is developed using Functional Network (FN) by learning functions instead of weights as in Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). In serial functional network, the functions are trained from enough input-output data and the input for one functional network is the output of the other functional network. Using ISCOSTFUN it is possible to predict early strength as well as 7-day and 28-day strength of concrete. Altogether seven functional networks are used for prediction of strength development. This study shows that ISCOSTFUN using functional network is very efficient for predicting the compressive strength development of concrete and it takes less computer time as compared to well known Back Propagation Neural Network (BPN).

During the navigation of mobile robot, one of the essential task is to determination the absolute location of mobile robot. In this paper, we proposed a method to determine the position of the camera from a landmark through the visual image of a quadrangle typed landmark using neural network. In determining the position of the camera on the world coordinate, there is difference between real value and calculated value because of uncertainty in pixels, incorrect camera calibration and lens distortion etc. This paper describes the solution of the above problem using BPN(Back Propagation Network). The experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method in comparison to conventional method in the performance of determining camera position.
In this paper, neural network, which has learning capability, is used for fault type classification and fault section estimation for high speed relaying. The potential of the neural network approach is demonstrated by simulation using ATP. The instantaneous values of voltages and currents are used the inputs of neural networks. This approach determines the fault section directly. In this paper, back-propagation network(BPN) is used for fault type classification and fault section estimation and can use for high speed relaying because it determines fault section within a few msec.
High impedance fault can not be easily detected by conventional method. But if it would not be detected and cleared quickly, it can result in fires, and electric shock. In this paper, neural network, which has learning capability, is used for high impedance fault detector. The potential of the neural network approach is demonstrated by simulation using KEPCO's measured data. The instantaneous values and frequency spectrum of current are respectively used as the inputs of neural networks. Also, the methods using combined data to exploit the advantage of each data are proposed. In this paper, back-propagation network(BPN) is used for high impedance fault detector and can use for high speed relay because it detects faults within 1 cycle.

The hidden node plays a role of the functional units that classifies the features of input pattern in the given question. Therefore, a neural network that consists of the number of a suitable optimum hidden node has be on the rise as a factor that has an important effect upon a result. However there is a problem that decides the number of hidden nodes based on back-propagation learning algorithm. If the number of hidden nodes is designated very small perfect learning is not done because the input pattern given cannot be classified enough. On the other hand, if designated a lot, overfitting occurs due to the unnecessary execution of operation and extravagance of memory point. So, the recognition rate is been law and the generality is fallen. Therefore, this paper suggests a method that decides the number of neural network node with feature information consisted of the parameter of learning algorithm. It excludes a node in the Pruning target, that has a maximum value among the feature value obtained and compares the average of the rest of hidden node feature value with the feature value of each hidden node, and then would like to improve the learning speed of neural network deciding the optimum structure of the multi-layer neural network as pruning the hidden node that has the feature value smaller than the average.

This paper describes position estimation algorithm using neural network for the navigation of the vision-based Wheeled Mobile Robot (WMR) in a corridor with taking ceiling lamps as landmark. From images of a corridor the lamp's line on the ceiling in corridor has a specific slope to the lateral position of the WMR. The vanishing point produced by the lamp's line also has a specific position to the orientation of WMR. The ceiling lamps has a limited size and shape like a circle in image. Simple image processing algorithms are used to extract lamps from the corridor image. Then the lamp's line and vanishing point's position are defined and calculated at known position of WMR in a corridor To estimate the lateral position and orientation of WMR from an image, the relationship between the position of WMR and the features of ceiling lamps have to be defined. Data set between position of WMR and features of lamps are configured. Neural network are composed and teamed with data set. Back propagation algorithm(BPN) is used for learning. And it is applied in navigation of WMR in a corridor.

The prediction of bankruptcy has been extensively studied in the accounting and finance field. It can have an important impact on lending decisions and the profitability of financial institutions in terms of risk management. Many researchers have focused on constructing a more robust bankruptcy prediction model. Early studies primarily used statistical techniques such as multiple discriminant analysis (MDA) and logit analysis for bankruptcy prediction. However, many studies have demonstrated that artificial intelligence (AI) approaches, such as artificial neural networks (ANN), decision trees, case-based reasoning (CBR), and support vector machine (SVM), have been outperforming statistical techniques since 1990s for business classification problems because statistical methods have some rigid assumptions in their application. In previous studies on corporate bankruptcy, many researchers have focused on developing a bankruptcy prediction model using financial ratios. However, there are few studies that suggest the specific types of bankruptcy. Previous bankruptcy prediction models have generally been interested in predicting whether or not firms will become bankrupt. Most of the studies on bankruptcy types have focused on reviewing the previous literature or performing a case study. Thus, this study develops a model using data mining techniques for predicting the specific types of bankruptcy as well as the occurrence of bankruptcy in Korean small- and medium-sized construction firms in terms of profitability, stability, and activity index. Thus, firms will be able to prevent it from occurring in advance. We propose a hybrid approach using two artificial neural networks (ANNs) for the prediction of bankruptcy types. The first is a back-propagation neural network (BPN) model using supervised learning for bankruptcy prediction and the second is a self-organizing map (SOM) model using unsupervised learning to classify bankruptcy data into several types. Based on the constructed model, we predict the bankruptcy of companies by applying the BPN model to a validation set that was not utilized in the development of the model. This allows for identifying the specific types of bankruptcy by using bankruptcy data predicted by the BPN model. We calculated the average of selected input variables through statistical test for each cluster to interpret characteristics of the derived clusters in the SOM model. Each cluster represents bankruptcy type classified through data of bankruptcy firms, and input variables indicate financial ratios in interpreting the meaning of each cluster. The experimental result shows that each of five bankruptcy types has different characteristics according to financial ratios. Type 1 (severe bankruptcy) has inferior financial statements except for EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) to sales based on the clustering results. Type 2 (lack of stability) has a low quick ratio, low stockholder's equity to total assets, and high total borrowings to total assets. Type 3 (lack of activity) has a slightly low total asset turnover and fixed asset turnover. Type 4 (lack of profitability) has low retained earnings to total assets and EBITDA to sales which represent the indices of profitability. Type 5 (recoverable bankruptcy) includes firms that have a relatively good financial condition as compared to other bankruptcy types even though they are bankrupt. Based on the findings, researchers and practitioners engaged in the credit evaluation field can obtain more useful information about the types of corporate bankruptcy. In this paper, we utilized the financial ratios of firms to classify bankruptcy types. It is important to select the input variables that correctly predict bankruptcy and meaningfully classify the type of bankruptcy. In a further study, we will include non-financial factors such as size, industry, and age of the firms. Thus, we can obtain realistic clustering results for bankruptcy types by combining qualitative factors and reflecting the domain knowledge of experts.
