The knitting, which has developed from the onset of human civilization, has a close relation to dwelling as well as to clothing itself. Its progress has taken shape in a variety of forms according to nature-friendly tools and its knit texture in the past is different from that of modern times. With this basic idea, the work aims at the further study of various knitting structure which triggered the origin of modern techniques, the establishment of those methods, and the finding of what means was utilized earlier based on these. By doing that, this study will provide the foundation in the Korean historical timeframe in knitting field and give definition to knit wear in a historical sense. As to definition, the outcome in the research boils down to two categories. broad meaning and narrow meaning. The former can be the hook-formed textile, referring to making, twisting, or binding the knots. On the other hands, the latter, that is, narrow type, can be the loop-linked fabric which can be defined as modern knitting. The knitting dates back to the ancient way of binding structure, combining structure in other words, and braiding structure and this kept dividing into subgroups like Netting. Nalbinding, Sprang and Crochet as the usage of hands and tools by mankind has got improved. And it changed into knitting and crochet which means a bamboo needle-hook knitting (larger needle type) and a crochet-hook knitting (smaller needle type), respectively through middle ages and modern times and settled down to the production of fabric. In this work, Netting, Nalbinding, Sprang and Crochet are classified as ancient category in which these originate the modern knitting method. Though the modern type of knitting is not found in the Joseon Dynasty, some various methods from the ancient twisting skill and binding skill where the materials with easy access to acquisition in the nature such as rattan, straw, horsehair, hemp, rush, cotton, silk and the like to Netting, Nalbinding and Sprang except Crochet were handed down and used in costume for diverse application. This work can provide the basic frame in terms of Korean history of knitting which has been excluded in the relevant researches until now. When applying the study, it would trigger the initiation of more versatile design with which the previous unique techniques along with modern techniques can be adopted in the clothing market as knit designs gain in public favor more and more.

Face Detection can be defined as follows : Given a digitalized arbitrary or image sequence, the goal of face detection is to determine whether or not there is any human face in the image, and if present, return its location, direction, size, and so on. This technique is based on many applications such face recognition facial expression, head gesture and so on, and is one of important qualify factors. But face in an given image is considerably difficult because facial expression, pose, facial size, light conditions and so on change the overall appearance of faces, thereby making it difficult to detect them rapidly and exactly. Therefore, this paper proposes fast and exact face detection which overcomes some restrictions by using neural network. The proposed system can be face detection irrelevant to facial expression, background and pose rapidily. For this. face detection is performed by neural network and detection response time is shortened by reducing search region and decreasing calculation time of neural network. Reduced search region is accomplished by using skin color segment and frame difference. And neural network calculation time is decreased by reducing input vector sire of neural network. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) can reduce the dimension of data. Also, pose estimates in extracted facial image and eye region is located. This result enables to us more informations about face. The experiment measured success rate and process time using the Squared Mahalanobis distance. Both of still images and sequence images was experimented and in case of skin color segment, the result shows different success rate whether or not camera setting. Pose estimation experiments was carried out under same conditions and existence or nonexistence glasses shows different result in eye region detection. The experiment results show satisfactory detection rate and process time for real time system.
This paper presents a facial expression control method of 3D avatar that enables the user to select a sequence of facial frames from the facial expression space, whose level of details the user can select hierarchically. Our system creates the facial expression spare from about 2,400 captured facial frames. But because there are too many facial expressions to select from, the user faces difficulty in navigating the space. So, we visualize the space hierarchically. To partition the space into a hierarchy of subspaces, we use fuzzy clustering. In the beginning, the system creates about 11 clusters from the space of 2,400 facial expressions. The cluster centers are displayed on 2D screen and are used as candidate key frames for key frame animation. When the user zooms in (zoom is discrete), it means that the user wants to see mort details. So, the system creates more clusters for the new level of zoom-in. Every time the level of zoom-in increases, the system doubles the number of clusters. The user selects new key frames along the navigation path of the previous level. At the maximum zoom-in, the user completes facial expression control specification. At the maximum, the user can go back to previous level by zooming out, and update the navigation path. We let users use the system to control facial expression of 3D avatar, and evaluate the system based on the results.

In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problem. First, in preprocessing part, we use a CCD camera to obtain a picture frame in real-time. By using histogram equalization method, we can partially enhance the distorted image influenced by natural as well as artificial illumination. We use an AdaBoost algorithm proposed by Viola and Jones, which is exploited for the detection of facial image area between face and non-facial image area. As the feature extraction algorithm, PCA method is used. In this study, the PCA method, which is a feature extraction algorithm, is used to carry out the dimension reduction of facial image area formed by high-dimensional information. Secondly, we use pRBFNNs to identify the ID by recognizing unique pattern of each person. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as three kinds of polynomials such as constant, linear, and quadratic. Coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of the Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to real-time face recognition system and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of output performance and recognition rate.
A time scale modification method yielding rate-modified speech while conserving the characteristic of speech was implemented in real-time using a goneral purpose digital signal processor. Time scale modification changed pronunciation speed only, producing a time difference between the input signal and the modified signal, making it impossible to implement it in real-time. In this thesis, a system was implemented to remove the time difference between the input and modified signals. Speech signals slowed down or speeded up by a physical time scale modification method, such as adjusting the motor speed of the cassett tape recorder, was used as the input signal. Physical modification that controled only the inter speed of the cassette tape player distorted the pitch period of the original speech. In this study, a real-time system was implemented so that the pitch-distorted speech was reconstructed back to the original by fractional sampling pitch shifting using an FIR filter, and this signal was time scale modified to match the cassette tape recorder motor speed using SOLA time-scale medification. In experiments using speech signals medifiedby the proposed method, results obtained using a 16-bit resolution ADSP2101 processor and using computer simulations employing floating point operations showed about the same average frame signal-to-noise ratio of about 20 dB.
This article aims at investigating the origin of 'gookmin', which is currently working as the dominant discourse and leading identity in the South Korean society. Like 'nation', 'people' or/and 'citizen', the term of 'gookmin' is a very much particular and historical outcome of the colonial modernity. Nevertheless, however, there have been not so much serious socio-linguistic, cultural-political studies about its root. It is theoretically as well as practically quite important to trace back the birth of 'gookmin', which is working as an ideological, epistemological frame in/between subject and reality. In this regard, this article will consider the late Japanese colonial period as a key period of the birth of 'gookmin'. It will then critically scrutinize how the total mobilization system by adopted the colonial government has formed the discourse and subjectivity of 'gookmin' based on various physical apparatuses. By revealing that a totalistic nation/state of Japanese colonialism is behind 'gookmin', which wanted to mobilize every individuals into a so-called article of empire, this article tries to show the fascist and propaganda nature of 'gookmin' continuing even after the liberation. As a historical-materialist work of deconstruction the dominant discourse of 'gookmin', this study will basically take a cultural studies approach.

This paper presents a new system which produces high resolution 3D contents by capturing multiview images of an object using multiple cameras, and estimating geometric and texture information of the object from the captured images. Even though a variety of multiview image-based 3D reconstruction systems have been proposed, it was difficult to generate high resolution 3D contents because multiview image-based 3D reconstruction requires a large amount of memory and computation. In order to reduce computational complexity and memory size for 3D reconstruction, the proposed system predetermines the regions in input images where an object can exist to extract object boundaries fast. And for fast computation of a visual hull, the system represents silhouettes and 3D-2D projection/back-projection relations by chain codes and 1D homographies, respectively. The geometric data of the reconstructed object is compactly represented by a 3D segment-based data format which is called DoCube, and the 3D object is finally reconstructed after 3D mesh generation and texture mapping are performed. Experimental results show that the proposed system produces 3D object contents of $800{\times}800{\times}800$ resolution with a rate of 2.2 seconds per frame.
A close-up shot, capturing all the fine details of an actor's face by filling up the frame, expresses an actor's performance more realistically than a stage where a living actor performs on. This is because a close-up generates an impact with its specific images and meanings seizing the attention of the audience and conjures up a psychological effect as if an actor's face is directly communicating with the audience at a minimum distance. Therefore, this study analyzed the film to examine the photographic effect and acting effect of close-up shots and recommend the need for acting training thereof. The film was selected since Song Kang-ho, to add more realism to his character acted going back and forth 20 years of age with a special makeup on face, his facial expressions, gestures, props in close-up successfully helped deliver the actor's performance by revealing the character's personality and emotions of the film, and generated an array of linguistic, visual and emotional meanings which are the key to film acting. This study is expected to contribute to helping actors to learn about the effect of close-ups and the key to film acting and find effective ways to express themselves in front of the camera.
In Korean traditional medicine, there are 4 major diagnoses. They are 'Mang (Watching)', 'Mun (Listening)', 'Mun (Asking)', and 'Jeul (Touching)'. These ways are closely related to each other. Among the four, 'Jeul' is the most famous one because it is the final way of checking the pulse for the cure. Pulse checking has been used as an essential way of diagnosis, but there are some difficulties in doing so in the business matter. To overcome these problems the theories should be studied profoundly and heterogeneously. More importantly, these endeavors must be pursued on the basis that pulse-checking must be. done along with other diagnostic ways to diagnose more precisely and practically. Therefore, I want to study and analyze the pragmatic ways to help the business field. Wang Suk-Hua(王叔和) arranged the methods and theories of 'pulse-checking' that was used before Nea-kyung. The book is called Maek-kyung. But this is too complicated to use in the field. As a result Maek-kyul(脈訣) which is made of songs that help to memorize and practice was gain more popularity than the ${\lceil}$Maekkyung(脈經)${\rfloor}$ itself. But the songs are so simple and compact that the offsprings annotated this book again and made books consist of these annotations. Among these books ${\lceil}$Chandobangronmaekkyulgipsung(纂圖方論脈訣集成)${\rfloor}$(1349) which was written in Won(元) dynasty was imported to Cho-sun(Korea) and used as the most important book on pulse-checking. So I will study ${\lceil}$Maekkyul(脈訣)${\rfloor}$ which contains the essence of ${\lceil}$Chandobangronmaekkyulgipsung(纂圖方論脈訣集成)${\rfloor}$. And I will also study ${\lceil}$Dojumaekkyul(圖註脈訣)${\rfloor}$ and ${\lceil}$Maekkyulyouhae(脈結乳解)${\rfloor}$ as conference. The former, written by Jang-sae-hyun(張世賢), contains narrative paintings and prescriptions according to pulses. And the latter, written by Wang Bang-bu(王邦傅), contains criticism of earlies annotations along with his own theory. ${\lceil}$Chandobangronmaekkyulgipsung(纂圖方論脈訣集成)${\rfloor}$ was chosen as a text book of medical examination according to ${\lceil}$Kyungkukdaejun(經國大典)${\rfloor}$ and had been used during Cho-sun, dynasty after closely corrected by Heo Jun(許浚). It means, during Cho-sun Dynasty, everyone who wants to become doctor had studied pulse-checking through this book, and also means Cho-sun medicine emphasizes practicality. This book and the pulse-checking part of ${\lceil}$Dongeibogam(東醫寶鑑)${\rfloor}$, which published later, made the main frame of pulse-checking during Cho'sun Dynasty. As above, studing ${\lceil}$Chandobangronmaekkyulgipsung(纂圖方論脈訣集成)${\rfloor}$ which was major textbook of pulse-checking in Cho-sun, helps to study pulse checking itself as an important way of diagnosis in Korean traditional medicine. And more than that it helps us to understand. the. practical development of pulse-checking dyring Cho-sun dynasty. With these reasons I studied ${\lceil}$Chandobangronmaekkyulgipsung(纂圖方論脈訣集成)${\rfloor}$ conferring ${\lceil}$Dojumaekkyul(圖註脈訣)${\rfloor}$ and ${\lceil}$Maekkyulyouhae(脈結乳解)${\rfloor}$ to understand ${\lceil}$Maekyung(脈經)${\rfloor}$ which is practical book of pulse-checking. During so I got some achievements and I report it as. follows.
