  • The Optimum Conditions of Preparing barium Ferrite from $BaCO_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$ are Sought for with electron microscope. At first to find the optimum sintering temperature, the mixture in 1 : 3 mole ratio. Sintered primarily at $700^{\circ}C$ for an hour, is Sintered secondary at $960^{\circ}C{\pm}10,\;1040^{\circ}C{\pm}10,\;1120^{\circ}C{\pm}10,\;1200^{\circ}C{\pm}10,\;1250^{\circ}C{\pm}10,\;1330^{\circ}C{\pm}10$, respectively for an hour. at the optimum temperature, abtained in this way. Sintering time is varied from 10 minutes to 120 minutes with 10 minutes intervals. Through the experiment, It is found that the optimum temperature of $1200{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$ and optimum time of half-one hour.

  • Structural, magnetic and magneto-optical(1.0~3.2eV) properties of rare earth (Ce, Pr, Eu), transition metal(Ni, Co), and Al substituted polycrystalline Ba ferrite films grown by rf sputtering have been investigated. TEM studies revealed that crystal grains in the films were reduced in size from several hundred nm to the order of 1 nm with the decrease of rf power density during sputtering. By substituting Al, square hysteresis loops have successfully been obtained. It has been found that Niions strongly enhances Faraday rotation of the films in the visible range. It has been confirmed that Co ions also strongly enhances Faraday rotation of the films in the near infrared. En- hancement in Faraday rotation by Ce, Pr, and Eu ions has not been observed. The origin of the enhancement in magnetic and magneto-optical properties of the films is discussed.

  • It has been studied the crystal and block structures of the hexagonal ferrites with M, W, Y and Z types prepared by various coprecipitation-oxidation method. The structures have been refined with a Rietveld analysis of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern with high precision ($R_{WP}$ <0.09, $R_I$ <0.03). The density difference between the S-blocks was proportioned to the cobalt contents in hexagonal ferrites, but that between the R or T-blocks was relatively small. Compared with the blocks and cation-oxygen polyhedra in BaM ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$), those were bulky to the normal direction for the c-axis in $Co_2W$ ($BaCo_2Fe_{16}O_{27}$) and to the parallel direction for the c-axis in $Co_2Y$ ($Ba_2Co_2Fe_{12}O_{22}$) and $Co_2Z$ ($Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$). The S-blocks of $Co_2W$, $Co_2Y$, and $Co_2Z$ were unstable and distorted. Because the T-block of $Co_2Z$ was unstable, the T-block was decomposed into the Ba-rich phase and $Co_2W$ at high temperatures above $1200^{\circ}C$. A standard powder X-ray diffraction pattern for $Co_2Z$ was proposed as well.

  • Hexagonal barium ferrite ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$) nano-particles have been successfully fabricated by spraypylorysis process. $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ precursor solutions were synthesized by self-assembly method. Diethyleneamine (DEA) surfactant was used to fabricate the micelle structure of Ba-DEA complex under various DEA concentrations. $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ powders were synthesized with addition of Fe ions to Ba-DEA complex and then fabricated $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ powders by spray-pyrolysis process at the temperature range of $800{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$. The molar ratio of Ba/DEA and heat-treatment temperatures significantly affected the magnetic properties and morphology of $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ powders. $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ powders synthesized with Ba/DEA molar ratio of 1 and heat-treated at $900^{\circ}C$ showed the coercive forces (iHc) of 4.2 kOe with average crystal size of about 100 nm.
